ContainerCon began in 2015 as a Linux Foundation event for container developers and Linux-kernel contributors. Since 2017, it has appeared within the broader Open Source Summit program in several editions, rather than operating consistently as a separate conference. For 2026, the Open Source Summit North America page lists related tracks but does not show ContainerCon as a standalone track.
What is ContainerCon?
ContainerCon is a container-focused technical program associated with Linux Foundation Events. Its original purpose was to bring Linux-container developers and contributors together with the Linux kernel developer community. The inaugural North American edition took place in Seattle from August 17–19, 2015, alongside LinuxCon + CloudOpen. Linux Foundation’s 2015 announcement describes its launch.
The program is aimed at people building, operating, securing and improving container-based systems, as well as the open-source maintainers and vendors working in that ecosystem.
Is ContainerCon part of Open Source Summit?
In November 2016, the Linux Foundation announced that LinuxCon, CloudOpen and ContainerCon would be brought together under the Open Source Summit umbrella for 2017. Since then, ContainerCon has appeared as a named microconference within some Open Source Summit editions; it is not necessarily an independent event in every year.

For example, ContainerCon appeared among the microconferences at Open Source Summit North America and Europe in 2024. The Linux Foundation’s 2024 North America event page and 2024 Europe event page list it in their programs. The 2024 North America event report recorded 25.4% of surveyed attendees selecting ContainerCon as a primary reason for attending; that is a result for that summit edition, not a general attendance rate for all years. What topics are covered at ContainerCon?
The official topic list spans the software lifecycle, from building images to running and troubleshooting containerized workloads. Coverage varies by edition, so the list is a guide to the program’s subject area, not a guarantee that every topic appears each year.
- Container runtimes, management and orchestration
- Container images, registries and reproducible builds
- CI/CD, configuration management, automation and GitOps
- Observability, including metrics, logging, tracing and service mesh
- Security and authentication
- Storage and databases
- APIs, SDKs, frameworks and libraries
- Migration, refactoring and remote or cloud-based developer environments
- Debugging
When comparing sessions or editions, look at how much attention the program gives to runtime and orchestration, image and supply-chain workflows, operations and observability, security and identity, stateful workloads, and migration and developer experience. The 2024 ContainerCon program is an example of a past edition’s agenda.
Who should attend ContainerCon?
ContainerCon is most relevant to developers and technical teams working directly with container platforms or the systems around them. Its audience can include:

One-click scans. No signup required.
Rank #3
- Platform, infrastructure and site reliability engineers evaluating or operating container systems
- Developers building containerized applications, tools or runtime components
- Open-source maintainers and contributors, including people working near the Linux kernel
- Architects planning container adoption, migration or refactoring
- Security practitioners responsible for container identity, authentication and workload protection
- Technology vendors and service providers participating in the open-source infrastructure ecosystem
It is less likely to suit someone seeking a general introduction to technology conferences or a product-specific training course: the program is a technical event whose emphasis depends on the sessions in a given edition.
Is ContainerCon still running in 2026?
Container-related programming remains part of the Open Source Summit ecosystem, but the 2026 North America page does not list a standalone ContainerCon track. It instead shows broader tracks named Cloud & Orchestration and Packages, Images, & Containers. That page supports saying related content is present; it does not establish that a separate ContainerCon microconference is scheduled for that edition. Check the current Open Source Summit North America 2026 program for the latest track and session listings.
Historically, ContainerCon has appeared in multiple formats and locations: the Linux Foundation archive lists Austin and Dublin editions in 2022, each with virtual participation. Past event listings should not be taken as confirmation of a future edition.

Talk submissions are tied to a specific event edition and its call for proposals. The available 2026 North America track listing does not establish a separate ContainerCon call for proposals. Check the official Open Source Summit page for the relevant edition and its current program or submission details; do not assume a past ContainerCon submission route remains open or applies to a differently named track.

Can companies sponsor ContainerCon?
Yes, ContainerCon sponsorship has been offered as part of Linux Foundation event sponsorship inventory. The 2024 Linux Foundation prospectus listed principal and supporter opportunities for ContainerCon. Sponsorship availability and terms depend on the edition, so companies should confirm current options through the Linux Foundation Events contact page rather than rely on a past prospectus.
