Yes. The Steam version of SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS is marked Verified for Steam Deck and lists full controller support on its Steam store page. That is an official compatibility signal, not a guarantee that every scene will perform identically across Steam Deck hardware and SteamOS versions.

What Steam Deck Verified means for this game

Steam lists the game as Steam Deck Verified, with full controller support. The listing identifies Sonic Team as developer, SEGA as publisher, and October 24, 2024 as the release date. Check the Steam listing for its current status.

Verified is the strongest official compatibility signal provided here, but it does not promise identical frame rates, battery life, or behavior in every scene. The collection includes two experiences—Sonic Generations and a new Shadow story campaign—whose performance and power demands differ. SEGA’s official overview, updated January 12, 2026, describes the collection and lists a 22.1 GB base-game file size.

Install and start the game

  1. Install from Steam. Steam’s system requirements page lists 35.3 GB of available storage. That is the listed PC storage requirement, not a Deck-specific benchmark. SEGA’s separate 22.1 GB base-game figure is not interchangeable with Steam’s available-space requirement.
  2. Connect to the internet for first-time setup. The SteamDB configuration record notes an active internet connection is required during first-time setup.
  3. Launch with the built-in controls. Steam lists full controller support; the SteamDB note about manual selection concerns external controllers, not the Deck’s built-in controls.

How to select an external controller

If a Bluetooth or USB controller is connected but does not become active automatically, SteamDB says you may need to select it through the Steam Deck’s Quick Access Menu. The note does not establish that an external controller is required.

Suggested graphics settings for each mode

Steam Deck HQ published separate recommended profiles in its 2024 review. They are one publication’s recommendations, not official SEGA guidance or a guarantee of optimal results on every Deck.

Experience Suggested settings Steam Deck HQ power and battery projections
Sonic Generations High graphics and shadow quality; 60 FPS in-game limit; FXAA; 100% rendering scale; 1280×800; borderless windowed mode; VSync. 11–13 W and approximately 5.5–6 hours.
Shadow Generations Custom graphics; Low shadows; 120 FPS in-game setting; TAA; ambient occlusion and local reflection enabled; high bloom and volumetric lighting; 1280×800 at 100% rendering scale. 20–22 W and approximately 2–2.5 hours.

The review’s battery figures are projections, not controlled head-to-head measurements. Actual power draw and runtime vary with hardware revision, brightness, scene, settings, battery condition, and software versions. The different profiles reflect the two modes’ different reported demands; they are not a promise that either target will hold in every scene.

How to interpret the PC requirements

Steam lists a minimum target of low settings at 720p and 30 FPS, and a recommended target of high settings at 1080p and 60 FPS. These are Windows PC requirements, not Steam Deck test results or performance guarantees. The settings above are more directly useful as a starting point for Deck play, while remaining recommendations from Steam Deck HQ rather than universal optimal settings.
