Pick WPForms if you mainly need to build and publish common forms, connect them to other tools, and watch how they perform. Pick Formidable Forms if submissions need to become public, data-driven pages on your site, such as directories, tables, calendars, or timelines, through its Views feature. Both gate features by plan, so the right choice depends on the tier you actually need, not on the brand.
One caveat on sourcing: the most detailed head-to-head comparison available is published by WPForms, which sells one of the two products. The comparison below attributes those claims to WPForms and does not present them as independent testing. No plugin was installed or benchmarked for this article.
The short decision guide
| If your project needs… | Lean toward | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Contact, lead, payment, or survey forms with standard integrations | WPForms | WPForms describes its range as covering contact forms, conditional logic, calculations, payments, surveys, and AI assistance. |
| Submitted data shown publicly as grids, tables, calendars, or timelines | Formidable Forms | Formidable’s pricing page lists grid, table, calendar, and timeline Views on Plus and higher. |
| An in-plugin dashboard for views, conversion rate, and abandonment | WPForms | WPForms 2.0 adds a form-performance tracking suite, per WPForms’ pricing page (July 16, 2026). |
| Entries stored in your own database on the free version | Formidable Forms (verify) | WPForms’ comparison says Formidable’s free plugin stores entries while WPForms Lite does not. Confirm in each plugin’s documentation. |
| More sites for the money at the third paid tier | Formidable Forms | Formidable Business covers up to seven sites; WPForms Pro covers five. |
Where each plugin is strongest
Formidable Forms: forms that become site content
Formidable’s clearest differentiator is Views. According to its official pricing page (accessed October 5, 2026), Plus and higher plans include grid, table, calendar, and timeline Views, plus graphs and charts. Its WordPress.org plugin description also lists calculator, survey, registration, quiz, donation, and intake use cases. If you’re building a member directory, event calendar, job board, or a reporting page fed by submissions, this is the feature that most separates the two.
Basic already includes conditional logic, repeaters, calculations, and file uploads. Higher tiers add more:

- Business: payments without Formidable’s stated 3% transaction fee, surveys and polls, quizzes, digital signatures, PDFs, API access, Zapier, Google Sheets, and AI Forms.
- Elite: white labeling, multisite, CRM integrations, and unlimited sites, among other features.

WPForms: the broader default for everyday forms
WPForms’ own comparison article, written by Hamza Shahid and reviewed by Rachel Adnyana (published September 18, 2026), positions WPForms as the more general-purpose choice. Its described tier layout:
- Basic: conditional logic and repeater fields.
- Plus: email-marketing connections and other integrations.
- Pro: calculations, surveys and polls, payments, and analytics.
- Elite: additional CRM and automation features.
Notice the difference in where things sit. Calculations are on Formidable’s cheapest tier but, per WPForms’ article, on WPForms’ third tier. If calculations matter to you, that alone can change the cost comparison.
Pricing, with dates and caveats
These are vendor-published figures, not guarantees. Formidable states its prices are special introductory prices and that renewals are at full price. Both vendors’ first-year numbers are promotional in that sense, so budget for the renewal column.

| Tier | Formidable first year | Formidable normal price | Sites | WPForms first year | WPForms renewal | Sites |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

| Second (Plus) | $99.50 | $199 | 3 | $99.50 | $199 | 3 |

| Top (Elite) | $299.50 | $599 | Unlimited | $299.50 | $599 | Unlimited |
Sources: Formidable’s pricing page, accessed October 5, 2026; WPForms’ comparison article, September 18, 2026. Prices are per year. Taxes, currency, promotions, and checkout terms can differ from these listings.
The takeaway is that list prices are almost identical. The entry tier differs by $10 in the first year, and the third tier differs in site count. Identical prices do not mean identical features: the same dollar amount buys a different bundle on each side, and tier names do not line up one-to-one.
Rank #3
Free version: where do entries go?
This is the most operationally important claim, and it comes only from WPForms’ own comparison. It says WPForms Lite does not store entries in the WordPress dashboard; it emails submissions instead, and a Lite Connect backup can be restored if you upgrade. It says Formidable’s free plugin stores entries in the site database.
If you plan to start free, test a submission on a staging site with either plugin and confirm where the data lands before relying on it. If losing an entry would cost you a lead or a legal record, don’t depend on email alone.
Analytics
WPForms’ pricing page says WPForms 2.0 includes a dashboard showing views, interactions, conversion rate, abandonments, and errors. That claim is supported by the vendor’s official page. The further claim that Formidable has no equivalent comes from WPForms’ comparison article, so treat it as a competitor’s assertion. If conversion tracking is central, you can also measure forms with a separate analytics tool whichever plugin you choose.
Ease of use
WPForms’ article calls itself easier to start with and describes Formidable as showing more settings and having a steeper learning curve. That is the publisher’s assessment, not a usability study. In practice the learning curve probably tracks your goal: a simple contact form is quick in most builders, while building a Views-driven directory requires planning in any tool. Try each free version before you buy.
Switching later
Plan your choice as if it is semi-permanent. WPForms’ comparison states there is no native importer for form definitions between the two products, so forms must be rebuilt. It describes CSV export and import for entries. Treat forms and submissions as separate migrations, check the current CSV field mapping, and rehearse on a staging site. Don’t promise a seamless move.

- List the one or two features you cannot live without (front-end Views, calculations, payments, specific CRM or email integration).
- Find the lowest tier that includes each one on the live vendor page.
- Count the sites you need to license.
- Compare the renewal price, not the first-year price.
- If payments are involved, check processing fees, including Formidable’s stated 3% fee below its Business tier.
- Decide whether entries must live in your database, and test where the free or entry tier puts them.
- Build one real form on a staging site in each plugin before committing.
In short: if the output of your forms is a public page built from submissions, start with Formidable. If the output is an email, a payment, or a CRM record, and you want built-in performance tracking, WPForms is the more conventional pick.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Formidable Forms better than WPForms?
Neither is better across the board. Formidable is stronger for displaying submitted data on the front end through Views; WPForms is positioned by its own vendor as the broader default for common forms and includes performance analytics.
Can I switch from Formidable Forms to WPForms?
Not with a native form importer, according to WPForms’ comparison. Forms must be rebuilt, while entries can be moved via CSV export and import. Test on a staging site first.
