Build a Dispatch Command Centre with ToolJet MCP

ToolJet MCP can help an AI coding agent build a live dispatch page and end-of-day regional summary. Learn the setup, data requirements and security checks.

ToolJet MCP lets a compatible AI coding agent create or modify a ToolJet app using the data sources and permissions available in a workspace. For a regional broadband dispatch team, a useful command centre pairs live job and outage monitoring with an end-of-day regional review. ToolJet’s example describes those interface features, but reports no measured improvement in response times or missed jobs.

What the dispatch app should show

Dispatchers need to see technicians, open jobs and outage zones together because each can change while work is underway. ToolJet’s vendor example organizes that workflow into two pages:

Page What it contains Dispatcher’s use
Dispatch Command Centre Live map, breach-risk job queue and active outages Monitor current work and identify jobs at risk alongside outage activity.
End of Day Summary Completed versus missed jobs and a by-region hot-areas table Review outcomes and see where activity is concentrated by region.

This is a description of the vendor’s example, not evidence that the app itself reduces missed work or travel time. Those outcomes would need to be measured in the operator’s own workflow.

What ToolJet MCP does

ToolJet describes MCP as a server that connects a compatible AI coding agent to a ToolJet instance. With access through a workspace personal access token (PAT), the agent can inspect connected data sources, create or modify apps, create ToolJet DB tables and seed records, write queries against ToolJet DB, PostgreSQL, REST APIs or other connected plugins, and manage users and permissions. It can generate pages, queries and components and bind them together. Changes remain visually editable in ToolJet. ToolJet’s MCP documentation describes the integration; the ToolJet MCP product page describes its review sequence of dry-running, applying and checking changes.

MCP is a way to work through an AI client, not a separate dispatch data source or a guarantee that the generated app matches operational needs. The result depends on the connected workspace, available data, instructions and subsequent review.

Prepare the workspace and give the agent a useful brief

The documented setup calls for a PAT created in the intended ToolJet workspace, Node.js 20 or newer, and an MCP-compatible client. ToolJet provides packaged support for some clients and manual stdio configuration for others; follow the instructions for the specific client in ToolJet’s setup documentation.

Start with the operational entities and fields rather than a broad request for “a dispatch dashboard.” ToolJet says naming the data source and entities helps the agent create a more useful first version. For this example, identify the data source or sources and fields such as technician, job, job status, due time, region and outage zone. A dispatch-specific prompt could ask for a live map, a queue of jobs nearing their due time, active outage visibility and an end-of-day page comparing completed and missed work by region. That is an adaptation of ToolJet’s documented prompting approach, not a verbatim customer quote. ToolJet’s MCP documentation includes examples such as connecting to ToolJet and building a tickets dashboard from ToolJet DB; its guidance on app generation recommends specifying data sources and entities.

  1. Create or select the development workspace the agent should use, and connect development data sources.
  2. Create a PAT in that workspace for an account with only the permissions needed for the work.
  3. Configure the MCP-compatible client using ToolJet’s client-specific instructions, with Node.js 20 or newer available.
  4. Ask for the two-page workflow and name the sources, entities and fields the app should use.
  5. Review the generated pages, queries, bindings and access controls in ToolJet; test them against realistic development data before promotion.

Scope access and protect operational data

Treat an MCP connection as workspace access, not as a harmless preview. ToolJet says a PAT is pinned to the workspace where it was created, cannot reach other workspaces, and operates with its owner’s permissions. Use an account with appropriately limited permissions, revoke tokens that are no longer needed, use HTTPS and keep credentials out of version control. ToolJet’s security guidance states: “A personal access token’s session is pinned to the workspace it was created in and cannot reach any other.” ToolJet documentation also explains token setup and access.

ToolJet says MCP and ToolJet AI operate on the development environment by default. That separation only helps if the development environment’s data sources actually point to development data. An agent exploring a workspace may read data available through its connections. Prompts and read data are processed by the AI client’s model provider under that provider’s retention policies, so teams should review those policies before exposing operational or personal information. See ToolJet’s MCP guidance.

Review and release the generated app

Keep generated work in development and use the team’s normal promotion process before release. ToolJet’s product page describes changes being dry-run, applied and checked, but that process is not a substitute for operational acceptance testing. Have dispatchers verify that the map, job-risk queue, outage view and regional summary reflect the team’s definitions and source data. Confirm permissions and behavior under the intended user roles before anyone relies on the app for live work. ToolJet’s MCP product page and documentation describe the agent workflow and environment guidance.

Choose cloud or self-hosting based on operational ownership

ToolJet lists cloud and self-hosting options, including Docker, Kubernetes, VPC and on-premises deployments. The choice affects who runs infrastructure, where data is hosted, and who handles upgrades and backups; plan-specific controls and features are not universal across deployments. ToolJet’s current self-hosting page lists the following details, which may change and should be rechecked before deployment:

Self-hosted detail What ToolJet lists
Free plan limits 2 builders, 50 end users and 10 apps (ToolJet’s page, accessed 2026).
ToolJet VM baseline At least 1 vCPU, 4 GB RAM and 8 GiB storage; x86-64 Linux is listed, with arm64 unsupported (ToolJet’s page, accessed 2026).
Additional production services PostgreSQL, with 16.x recommended, and Redis 7.
Operations The team running a self-hosted deployment manages upgrades and backups.
Community Edition AGPL-3.0.

ToolJet lists Docker, Kubernetes, VPC and on-premises as self-hosting options. Its page describes distinctions across Free, Team and Enterprise plans; security controls, SSO, audit, Git sync, SCIM and air-gapped availability vary by plan and deployment. Check the current ToolJet self-hosting and plan information rather than assuming a control is included in every setup.

What the example establishes—and what it does not

The cited ToolJet example establishes a proposed two-page interface for live dispatch monitoring and end-of-day regional review. It does not publish measured results for reduced missed jobs, faster response or shorter travel. Treat those as possible evaluation goals, not promised effects. If you deploy the app, assess it against your own baseline and workflow before attributing operational gains to it.
