Deckgauge is a source-available engineering-intelligence application that brings data from Jira, GitHub, GitLab and Azure DevOps into shared views for engineering leaders. Its creator, Yaniv Zalevas, says he built it to shorten the time he spent understanding new client engineering organizations: instead of weeks of introductory meetings, he wanted existing work data to help answer questions about roadmaps, focus and workload. That speed is his rationale, not an independently measured result.
What Deckgauge is for
Deckgauge aims to give engineering leaders a consolidated view of work tracking and code activity. The project describes dashboards for delivery metrics, roadmaps, team activity and management context, along with contribution insight and review notes. These are advertised capabilities; they do not establish that the software improves delivery or that an individual’s activity is a reliable measure of productivity.
The repository frames its approach as “Decision support with a human in the loop — never an automated performance rating.” That is the project’s stated intent, not an independent assessment of how teams use the product. Its creator also says the application was largely built with AI agents and that each merge received human review; that development account is his own.
What leaders can see
Delivery and roadmap
The project lists DORA metrics and roadmap views among its capabilities. Those can help leaders inspect delivery patterns alongside planned work, but the repository and site do not provide independent validation of the metrics or evidence that a particular dashboard view predicts team performance.

#1 Best Overall
- ENGINEERING PAPER FORMAT – Margin-ruled front and 5x5 graph-ruled back on green-tinted paper; ideal for engineering students, homework, exams, lab reports, technical drawing, and computation.
- SPIRAL-BOUND, NOT GLUE-TOP – Unlike traditional glue-top engineering pads, the durable spiral keeps every page secure and lays flat for easy writing; no pages falling out of your backpack.
- PREMIUM 150-SHEET NOTEBOOK – Each notebook includes 150 sheets of high-quality green-tinted paper with a smooth surface, perfect for precise writing with pens or pencils.
- PERFORATED & 3-HOLE PUNCHED – Easily tear out clean sheets to turn in assignments, then store them instantly in standard binders and filing systems.
- 2-PACK VALUE – Two full notebooks cover a semester of courses, giving you plenty of premium engineering paper for problem sets, lab reports, and class notes.
Team activity and workload
Deckgauge advertises team-focus, per-engineer workload and contribution views. Individual-level data may help surface who is carrying work or where attention is going, but it can also invite misleading comparisons: code volume or ticket activity alone does not capture complexity, mentoring, incident response or the value of work. Treat such views as prompts for context and conversation, not rankings.
Organizational and financial context
The project also lists organizational views and CapEx/OpEx reporting. The available project descriptions establish these as intended product features; they do not document the accounting rules, data coverage or accuracy well enough to treat those figures as audited financial reporting.

Integrations, hosting and the demo
The documented connected systems are Jira, GitHub, GitLab and Azure DevOps. Whether that is useful depends on whether those are the actual trackers and code platforms used by a team; the feature list does not establish the depth or coverage of each connector.
The repository documents deployment with Docker, including setup and upgrade instructions. For installation, migration or upgrades, use the current Deckgauge repository instructions rather than commands copied from an older article.

- MADE IN USA QUALITY YOU CAN TRUST – Manufactured by Roaring Spring Paper Products in Pennsylvania for over 100 years, delivering reliable paper quality for consistent performance at school or work.
Self-hosting is presented by the author and official site as a way to run the application on infrastructure the organization controls. That describes the intended deployment model, not an independent security audit or a complete account of every data flow.
Do not expose the sample setup as-is
- The repository warns that the sample
[email protected]account has a publicly known password. Remove the account before exposing an instance. - Compose ports may bind on all interfaces by default. Restrict the host binding before making the service reachable beyond the intended local environment.
- The demo is shared and temporary; the README says not to enter real data. The product site labels its sample dashboard values synthetic, so they are not customer results or industry benchmarks.
License and commercial options
The repository calls Deckgauge source-available under Functional Source License FSL-1.1-Apache-2.0. Its summary allows commercial use but restricts offering Deckgauge as a competing substitute commercial product or hosted service. The Apache-2.0 grant takes effect on the second anniversary of each release, not on one universal date. For example, the repository states that v2.0.0, published September 11, 2026, converts on September 11, 2028. Check the LICENSE file for the exact release you plan to use.

The project describes Community as free, without a developer cap or feature gates on metrics, boards, dashboards or connectors. It describes Enterprise as a hosted/operated service or a commercial license for a customer’s environment with support. It also identifies CodPal’s Engineering Health Check, in which a fractional CTO reviews the dashboard and provides a one-page assessment with three priority fixes. These are project-stated offerings; confirm current terms and availability with the project.
How to assess whether it fits
Deckgauge is most relevant to engineering leaders who need a cross-system view and can operate or procure a self-hosted deployment. Before relying on it, evaluate the questions that determine whether an engineering-intelligence tool is useful and safe for your team:
- Integration fit: Does it connect to the team’s actual trackers and code platforms, and is the required data available at useful granularity?
- Data control: Does self-hosting meet your deployment and governance requirements? Review the setup and upgrade guidance, and assess data flows rather than assuming hosting location alone answers every privacy question.
- Metric transparency: Can people understand how measures are calculated, challenge missing or misleading context, and avoid turning individual activity into an automated performance judgment?
- Edition and support: Which capabilities are included in Community, and do you need hosted operations, commercial licensing or support?
- Release-specific license: Read the LICENSE file for the version you will run; the conversion date and terms are tied to individual releases.
The Deckgauge repository positions the product against Jellyfish and LinearB and names Swarmia as a nearby alternative. That positioning is not an independent comparison, so evaluate those products against the same integration, control, measurement and licensing criteria rather than treating the project’s framing as a head-to-head result.
