Buy Nintendo’s Switch 2 Pro Controller if your priority is the most complete Switch 2 integration: its dedicated C Button opens GameChat, it has a headset jack, and Nintendo documents its GL/GR remapping, HD rumble 2, NFC, motion sensors and Switch 2-only compatibility. Choose the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth if you also play on PC, want TMR sticks, rear paddles, software profiles and an included charging dock, and you have verified the exact model and current Switch 2 firmware support.
There is an important naming trap. “Ultimate 2” refers to more than one controller. This comparison uses the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller, not the separately listed Ultimate 2 Wireless model. Confirm the SKU, supported platforms and what is in the box before ordering; specifications from one variant should not be transferred to the other.

8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth vs. Switch 2 Pro Controller at a glance
The two controllers target different kinds of buyers. Nintendo’s pad is a purpose-built Switch 2 accessory, while the Bluetooth Ultimate 2 is a broader controller whose appeal comes from configurable controls and multi-platform use. The table below separates documented features from items that depend on the exact retail listing.

First, verify which Ultimate 2 you are buying
Before comparing features or prices, read the complete product name in the seller’s listing. The Ultimate 2 Wireless and Ultimate 2 Bluetooth are separate products. Their radios, included accessories and platform claims can differ. A listing that simply says “Ultimate 2” is not specific enough for a Switch 2 purchase.
What the Bluetooth model establishes
The official Bluetooth manual includes instructions for connecting to Switch. That confirms Switch connection procedures for the Bluetooth model, but it is not a blanket promise that every current Switch 2 software version, regional SKU or firmware combination will behave identically. Check the listing’s current platform statement and update the controller firmware using the manufacturer’s supported process before relying on it for a Switch 2 setup.
What the Wireless model does not establish
The official Ultimate 2 Wireless page names Windows, Android, Apple and SteamOS in its platform field and does not name Switch there. Do not assume that a Wireless-model dongle, firmware or button mapping will work on Switch 2 merely because the product family shares the Ultimate 2 name. If a seller omits “Bluetooth” from the model description, ask for the exact model number or choose a listing that states it clearly.
Why the Switch 2 Pro Controller is the safer Switch-only choice
Nintendo built its Pro Controller around Switch 2 system functions rather than general-purpose compatibility. Nintendo Support describes the controller this way: “The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller includes a C Button for opening the GameChat menu at any time, GL/GR Buttons that you can freely map to any button you choose, and an audio jack for headphones and headsets.” Those controls matter if you use GameChat frequently or want voice audio without routing sound through a television or separate accessory.
Rank #2
- Flagship, fully upgraded for next-level performance. Compatible with Switch, Switch 2, and Windows. Switch 2 compatibility requires the controller and adapter to be updated to the latest firmware.
- TMR Joysticks – Offering higher sensitivity, greater precision, and enhanced durability, complete with an RGB Fire Ring and wear-resistant joystick rings.
- Integrated Charging Dock - A seamlessly integrated charging dock keeps your controller always charged and ready to play. Automatically reconnects when removed from the dock.
- Vibration and Motion control (for Switch only). Turbo function. Wake-on-shake. Support 8BitDo Ultimate Software V2.
- Trigger Mode Switch - Easily switch between linear Hall Effect triggers and non-linear tactile triggers for optimal control across different gaming scenarios.
GameChat access from the controller
Pressing the C Button opens the Switch 2 GameChat menu. That is a dedicated hardware shortcut; the cited 8BitDo documentation does not establish an equivalent Nintendo GameChat button. If your household regularly starts or manages GameChat sessions, the Nintendo controller removes a menu-navigation step and keeps that function consistent with Nintendo’s own interface.
Headset connection
The Switch 2 Pro Controller includes an audio jack for headphones and headsets, according to Nintendo’s FAQ. This is a concrete hardware difference, not merely a software profile feature. The supplied 8BitDo sources do not document a matching headset jack or Nintendo GameChat integration, so do not buy the Ultimate 2 expecting those features.
Native Switch 2 feature set
Nintendo’s Singapore specifications list HD rumble 2, NFC, Bluetooth, an accelerometer and a gyroscope. These are useful when a game uses motion aiming, NFC interactions or the newer rumble system. The presence of a feature in the specification does not mean every game uses it, but Nintendo’s controller is the option with the clearest documented alignment to Switch 2 hardware and software.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhy the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth can be the better value
The Ultimate 2 Bluetooth is the more interesting choice when you want one controller for Switch and another platform, or when rear controls and customization matter more than Nintendo-exclusive functions. A retailer specification sheet for the Bluetooth model lists Switch and Windows support, while the official manual supplies Switch connection instructions. Verify the current listing and connection mode because support can change by SKU or firmware.

TMR joysticks
The Ultimate 2 product family advertises TMR joysticks. TMR (tunnel magnetoresistance) sensing is a different stick-sensing approach from traditional potentiometers, but the supplied evidence does not establish a drift rate, service life or immunity from drift. Treat TMR as a hardware feature, not a guarantee that a stick cannot develop problems.
Rear paddles and configurable controls
The official Ultimate 2 product information identifies two rear paddle buttons. The retailer specification for the Bluetooth model additionally lists customizable bumpers and trigger-mode switching. Rear buttons can let you keep your thumbs on the sticks while jumping, crouching or activating an item, but the practical benefit depends on the game and your preferred layout. The documented advantage here is configurability, not a measured improvement in speed or accuracy.
Profiles and motion control
The same retailer specification lists motion control and software profiles. Profiles can be useful if you alternate between games with different mappings or move between Switch and Windows. Save only mappings that the game and platform accept; a profile created for one platform may not translate cleanly to another. Motion support is likewise game-dependent and should not be confused with Nintendo’s complete Switch 2 feature integration.

The surfaced Best Buy specification sheet lists an integrated charging dock and a package containing the controller, dock, adapter and cable. Box contents are seller- and SKU-dependent, so inspect the current listing before assigning a value to the dock. A dock is convenient for a controller that lives beside the console, but it does not by itself prove a longer battery life or faster charging than Nintendo’s controller.

Compatibility and connection: the checks that prevent a bad purchase
For a Switch 2 setup
- Confirm the product name says Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller, not only “Ultimate 2” or “Ultimate 2 Wireless.”
- Read the seller’s current platform list for Switch 2, including any note about required firmware or connection mode.
- Download or consult the Bluetooth model manual and follow its Switch pairing sequence.
- Update the controller firmware before assigning it to a primary player, then test wireless pairing, rumble, motion and every mapped rear button in the games you actually play.
- Keep the return window and packaging until the controller has connected reliably after a full console restart and wake-from-sleep cycle.
For Windows or mixed-platform use
Check whether the listing includes a 2.4 GHz adapter, Bluetooth only, or both. Do not infer included hardware from the Ultimate 2 family name. Confirm which mode supports your target platform, whether profiles are stored on the controller or in software, and whether changing modes alters button labels or vibration behavior.
For Nintendo’s controller
Nintendo’s official FAQ states that the Switch 2 Pro Controller is for Switch 2 only. That makes it a straightforward choice for a Switch 2 household, but a poor fit if you need the same pad for a Windows library or another console. Its dedicated functions also have value only when you own and use Switch 2; they do not create a benefit on unsupported platforms.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Battery and charging differences
Nintendo’s Singapore specification page estimates approximately 40 hours of battery life and approximately 3.5 hours to charge the Switch 2 Pro Controller. These are Nintendo’s product estimates, not independent measurements or a guarantee for every game, volume level or wireless condition. Expect actual runtime to vary with rumble, motion features and use patterns.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The retailer specification supplied for the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth identifies a charging dock but does not establish a comparable tested runtime or charging time. Without a documented figure, compare the convenience of the dock and the seller’s warranty rather than treating an unverified battery number as fact. If battery endurance is decisive, look for the exact Bluetooth SKU’s current technical sheet and note whether its figure is an estimate, a test result or a marketing claim.

Price: compare live listings, not old headlines
The Best Buy specification sheet surfaced for the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth lists a $69.99 MSRP. The date of that retailer MSRP was not established, so it should not be presented as today’s price. Nintendo of America’s store listed the Switch 2 Pro Controller at a $89.99 regular price when accessed on October 13, 2026. Neither figure guarantees current stock, sale pricing, taxes, shipping or prices outside the United States.
Use the following method when you are ready to buy:
- Open a current listing for the exact Ultimate 2 Bluetooth SKU and record the delivered price, included dock or adapter and return terms.
- Open Nintendo’s current Joy-Con & Controllers store page for the Switch 2 Pro Controller price and availability in your region.
- Adjust for accessories you would otherwise need, such as a charging dock, headset solution or PC adapter.
- Decide whether Nintendo-only features or multi-platform customization justify the difference for your use, rather than claiming one controller is universally cheaper.
Which controller fits each type of player?
Choose the Switch 2 Pro Controller when…
- Your main or only gaming system is Nintendo Switch 2.
- You want a physical C Button for GameChat and an integrated headset jack.
- You prefer Nintendo’s documented HD rumble 2, NFC, Bluetooth, accelerometer and gyroscope feature set.
- You want GL/GR buttons that Nintendo says can be freely mapped without relying on third-party software.
- You value official console integration more than PC compatibility.
Choose the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth when…
- You regularly switch between Switch and Windows and have confirmed support for the exact SKU.
- TMR sticks, two rear paddles, trigger-mode switching or software profiles are priorities.
- The included dock is useful in your setup and the current package actually contains it.
- You are comfortable checking firmware, pairing mode and platform-specific mappings.
- You do not need the documented C Button, headset jack or other Nintendo-specific functions.
Wait or reconsider when…
- The listing does not identify Bluetooth versus Wireless.
- The seller cannot state whether Switch 2 is supported or which firmware is required.
- You are buying based solely on a TMR claim and expect a guarantee against drift; no such guarantee is established here.
- You need measured latency, comfort or durability data. The supplied evidence does not provide independent tests for those qualities.
Buyer checklist
- Model: Verify “Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller” in the title, photos and model number.
- Platform: Confirm current Switch 2 and Windows support, plus the required connection mode.
- Firmware: Check update instructions and install the current firmware before evaluating compatibility.
- Functions: Decide whether you need GameChat C Button access, a headset jack, NFC or HD rumble 2.
- Controls: Decide whether rear paddles, TMR sticks, trigger switching and profiles outweigh Nintendo’s GL/GR mapping.
- Package: Confirm the dock, adapter and cable are included rather than assuming they come with every Ultimate 2 listing.
- Price: Compare delivered local prices and return policies on the day you order.
Verdict
For a Switch 2-only owner who wants the least ambiguity and the fullest documented console feature set, buy the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller. Its C Button, headset jack, GL/GR mapping and Nintendo-listed sensors and rumble are the reasons to pay for the official option.
For a player who also uses Windows or wants a configurable controller with TMR sticks, rear paddles, profiles and a possible dock bundle, the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth is the stronger fit—provided the exact listing confirms Switch 2 support and firmware compatibility. The choice is therefore about platform scope and features, not a universal winner.
