The reported eight-game shortlist
The following games are identified as missing from Game Pass in the current report. “Missing” means the title is not presented as an included Game Pass entitlement; it does not mean the game cannot be played on compatible hardware through a separately purchased copy.

Windows Central has published a broader compilation of Microsoft-owned games that are absent from Game Pass, so these eight should not be read as an exhaustive inventory of missing Call of Duty releases.

What Call of Duty games are on Game Pass?
Black Ops 6 arrived day one
Microsoft’s October 2024 announcement placed Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 in Game Pass on its launch day. That is a different arrangement from the older games in the shortlist: the newest release received subscription access immediately, while the classic entries remain individually unavailable according to the report.
Modern Warfare III received cloud access
The same October 2024 announcement said Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III would come to Game Pass Ultimate cloud gaming on October 25. This is a cloud-gaming inclusion for the specified tier, not evidence that every console or PC edition is included in every Game Pass plan.

- Strike Force Levels: New to the Call of Duty Franchise, strike force levels provide sandbox style game play experiences, allowing players to take command of any element of their squad at any time
- Branching Story lines: Choices the player makes could mean the difference between life and death for some characters and there exists an even greater opportunity for multiple endings
- Single Player Character Customization: Choose from a variety of weapons and load outs providing multiple choices for how you approach single player missions
World War II was added later
Xbox announced Call of Duty: WWII for Game Pass in June 2025. Its later arrival illustrates that Activision games have been added in stages rather than through one catalog-wide release of the backlist.

Microsoft’s February 2024 statement committed the company to bringing Activision and Blizzard games to Game Pass, including new releases and classic titles. The statement cited 34 million Xbox Game Pass subscribers, but it did not provide a timetable for any specific game in this eight-title shortlist.

- Weapon that can be utilised as an in-game vehicle Call of Duty: Black Ops II is a new story with elements and characters from previous games
- The non-linear storyline will see you battling during a futuristic Cold War, as well as tackling flashbacks from historical missions and playing as various members of the Mason family. Every decision you make during this story will affect future consequences, giving you a different experience every time you play
- Alongside the epic Campaign and branching story is the all-new Multiplayer mode. New maps, new game-styles and new perks make this the most engaging Multiplayer yet
- Zombies Mode also makes a comeback with a series of challenging maps and missions that enable you to fight off the dead in even more ways.
There is no published title-by-title explanation establishing a single legal, licensing or technical cause for each omission. It would therefore be inaccurate to claim that any particular game is missing because of one confirmed rights issue, server problem or backward-compatibility limitation. The available announcements establish a broad commitment and a pattern of staged additions, not a schedule.
Xbox’s 2025 Retro Classics initiative launched with more than 50 classic Activision games and said the collection would grow to more than 100 over time. The launch examples were mainly Activision games from the 1980s and 1990s; that initiative is not evidence that any of the eight Call of Duty games has been added to Game Pass.

What this means for players
The practical difference is between subscription access to selected newer releases and ownership of older campaigns or multiplayer versions. Before choosing how to play, check four details:
Recommended Free Tools
- Catalog inclusion: Is the exact game listed in your Game Pass app, rather than a similarly named remake or newer release?
- Platform and edition: Does your console or PC support the edition you own or plan to buy?
- Campaign and multiplayer: A physical or digital purchase may provide the game itself, but online features can depend on platform services and active servers.
- Backward compatibility: Compatibility is specific to the platform and release; do not assume that one entry in the series guarantees another will run.
Catalog listings, tiers and regional availability can change. A game shown as unavailable today could be added later, while a previously listed title can leave a service under normal catalog rotation.

How to play a missing game without Game Pass
Buy a compatible standalone copy
Call of Duty: Black Ops II is a concrete example. A physical Xbox 360 copy can be found by searching for Call of Duty Black Ops II Xbox 360. This is an individual purchase, not a Game Pass entitlement.
- Confirm that the listing is for the exact game and platform edition you need.
- Check your console’s compatibility with that Xbox 360 release before ordering.
- Verify the seller’s region, disc condition, return terms and included contents.
- Check the current status of online services if multiplayer is important to you; a working disc does not guarantee that every network feature remains available.
- Install the game and any required system updates, then test the campaign before relying on online play.
Prices, stock, seller policies and marketplace terms change, so evaluate the listing at the time of purchase. The same checks apply to physical copies of the other seven games, regardless of where you buy them.
Is Black Ops 2 on Xbox Game Pass?
Not according to the reported eight-game shortlist. Call of Duty: Black Ops II is one of the titles identified as missing, so a Game Pass subscription should not be treated as a license for it. To play it, you need a separately owned compatible copy unless Microsoft adds it in a future catalog update.

How to verify the status before you download or buy
- Open the Xbox app or your console’s Game Pass catalog.
- Search for the exact title, including its subtitle and release edition.
- Check whether the result says it is included with your current tier or only offers a separate purchase.
- Review the listed platform, cloud-play support and regional restrictions.
- If the title is absent, recheck after a catalog announcement; Microsoft has been adding Activision releases incrementally.
