A project’s rating depends on the platform, the date checked, vote count and eligibility rules; the supplied examples do not establish an all-time leader for any studio. They do show why “best” needs a clear measure before studios can be compared.
Why there isn’t a reliable eight-studio ranking here
“Best” can mean highest audience rating, strongest award record, greatest popularity or largest production catalog. Those measures answer different questions. A studio with many productions is not necessarily better rated, and an award winner is not automatically the audience’s highest-rated project.

The available results do not specify which eight studios to include or provide a consistent, platform-wide project-rating table. They also do not give vote counts or project-eligibility rules. Naming eight winners anyway would imply a comparison the figures cannot support.

What the available examples actually establish
An IMDb Anime Trending Awards 2026 result shows Orb: On the Movements of the Earth alongside Madhouse, with an IMDb audience rating of 8.4 and seventh place. It also shows Gachiakuta alongside Bones Film, rated 8.0 and placed eighth. These are figures displayed on that awards page, not proof that either title is its studio’s highest-rated project. The ratings and placements are snapshots, not timeless values.
#1 Best Overall
- English dub, Japanese language, English subtitles
The studio names should be read as credits attached to those specific entries. A studio’s involvement can vary by production and season, so a comparison needs a consistent rule for deciding which credits count.
How to make a fair “highest-rated project” comparison
- Choose the rating source. Use one audience-rating platform for every studio, and name it. Ratings from different platforms should not be treated as interchangeable.
- Set the snapshot date. Ratings and vote totals can change. Record when each rating was checked and describe it as a snapshot.
- Set a vote threshold. A title with very few ratings may have a high score but provide a weak basis for comparison. State the minimum number of votes required; the available examples do not provide vote totals or establish a threshold.
- Define eligible projects. Decide whether the comparison includes TV series, individual seasons, films, OVAs or all of them. Treating a season and a whole series as equivalent can change the result.
- Define the studio-credit rule. Specify whether a project qualifies when a studio is a lead production studio, a co-producer or credited for a particular season. Verify the credits for each title rather than assuming a studio made every installment.
- Apply one method to every studio. Once the eight studios and rules are set, identify each studio’s highest-scoring eligible project on the same platform. Without that consistent dataset, an ordered list is not established.
When awards are the better comparison
If the question is which studios have recognized work, use award records and label them as awards. Crunchyroll’s Anime of the Year overview lists winning titles and studios, while the Best Animation overview records studio and title award results. Those sources can support an awards-focused comparison; they do not provide a comprehensive audience-rating table or establish each studio’s highest-rated project.

What studio catalogs can—and cannot—tell you
AniDB’s studio listings and anime counts can provide context about catalog breadth and production volume. Counts are not quality scores, audience ratings or proof that a studio’s largest catalog contains its best-reviewed work.

How to read a published top-eight list
Before relying on a “best anime studios” ranking, check whether it states the rating platform, snapshot date, vote counts or minimum threshold, eligible project types and studio-credit rule. Also check whether its ranking is based on user ratings, popularity placements or judged awards. If those details are missing, treat the list as an editorial selection rather than a verified ranking of each studio’s highest-rated work.
