You can automate far more than a single text-to-image request. A dependable creative pipeline can turn structured campaign data into concept images, edit selected regions, remove backgrounds, produce channel variants, resize and export catalogs, generate short videos, and route every result through validation and approval. The practical advantage is repeatability: the same inputs, rules and metadata produce outputs that can be regenerated, reviewed and published without rebuilding the process each time.
1. Generate concept images from structured prompts
Replace ad-hoc prompting with a template whose variables come from a brief, product database or campaign sheet. Useful fields include product name, audience, visual style, aspect ratio, campaign name, color constraints, background treatment and required text. Your workflow can fill those fields, submit the request to an image API, save the result and retain the exact prompt and model settings.
A practical prompt record
- Subject: the product, person or scene that must appear.
- Audience and channel: for example, a professional LinkedIn image or a vertical social story.
- Composition: camera angle, focal point, negative space and placement for later copy.
- Style and constraints: lighting, palette, materials, exclusions and brand rules.
- Output settings: dimensions, format, quality and number of alternatives.
OpenAI’s image-generation tools support generation through the Image API and Responses API, with controls for size, quality, format, compression and the number of outputs. Keep those settings in the job record so a rejected concept can be rerun consistently.
2. Edit an existing image and replace selected regions
Editing is often more useful than starting over. Supply the source image with an instruction such as “replace the mug with the blue model, preserve the hands and lighting.” A mask identifies the area the model may change; unmasked pixels remain the reference for composition and identity.

Where masked edits help
- Swap a product color while preserving its shape and shadows.
- Remove an unwanted object without rebuilding the background.
- Change a sign, package label or screen area for a market-specific version.
- Extend a crop to create a different aspect ratio.
The Responses image-generation tool accepts image inputs, generate/edit actions and mask-guided edits. Use a clean, tightly aligned mask and describe what must not change. Validate logos, small text and fingers manually; an API can perform the edit, but it does not guarantee editorially correct lettering or brand fidelity.
3. Remove backgrounds and build product scenes
A product cutout can feed many downstream designs. Automate separation from the original background, then composite the subject into a generated or predefined scene. This supports ecommerce hero images, catalog contexts, seasonal campaigns and localized backdrops without photographing every combination.
Separate processing from art direction
- Ingest a rights-cleared source image and record its identifier.
- Remove the background or create a transparent subject layer.
- Generate or select a scene that matches the campaign brief.
- Composite the subject, correcting scale, contact shadows and reflections.
- Render channel-specific files and send them for approval.
Adobe Firefly workflow nodes and Services APIs document image processing, compositing and generated scenes. A node-based design makes each operation replaceable: you can change the scene generator without changing ingestion, validation or publishing.
4. Create controlled variations for channels, audiences and markets
One approved source can become a family of assets. Pass the same product and campaign data through rules for portrait, landscape and square formats; adjust copy treatment, visual style or audience context while retaining required brand elements.

| Dimension | Example values | Why it belongs in data |
|---|---|---|
| Aspect ratio | Square, portrait, landscape | Prevents manual recropping for every channel. |
| Audience | Consumer, enterprise, regional market | Allows relevant scenes and language. |
| Style | Studio, lifestyle, seasonal | Keeps experimentation within approved boundaries. |
| Copy treatment | No copy, headline-safe space, localized text | Reserves composition for the publishing system. |
Adobe describes workflows for multiple versions and repeated edits, while OpenAI documents multi-turn image iteration and output controls. Store a parent asset ID so every derivative can be traced back to the approved source.

5. Batch-resize, crop, reformat and export assets
Transformation work is deterministic and ideal for automation. A job can read each approved asset, apply a crop policy, resize it, convert it to the required format and write the result to object storage or a publishing queue. Include per-asset status so one malformed file does not hide failures in the rest of the batch.
Checks for a resilient batch
- Reject unsupported or corrupt source files before processing.
- Preserve the focal point when applying an automatic crop; fall back to a human-set focal coordinate when necessary.
- Verify output dimensions, color mode, file size and transparency requirements.
- Use deterministic names containing campaign, asset and variant IDs.
- Record success, failure reason and output location for every item.
Firefly Services documents batch execution with progress tracking and per-asset results. For large sets of API requests, OpenAI’s Batch API accepts JSONL input, documents a 24-hour completion window and offers a 50% discount versus synchronous APIs. That window is asynchronous, not an instant response; design your queue and notifications accordingly.
6. Generate short videos from prompts or reference images
Video generation is an asynchronous job rather than a file returned immediately. Submit a text prompt and, optionally, a reference image; then poll or receive the completed job before downloading the clip.

- Prompt describing action, subject continuity, camera movement and setting.
- Reference image ID or URL, with rights and intended use recorded.
- Model selection.
- Duration and output orientation.
- Approval state and any required safety review.
OpenAI’s Videos API documents Sora 2 and Sora 2 Pro. The documented durations are 4, 8 or 12 seconds, with portrait and landscape output sizes. Treat duration and resolution as job parameters, not assumptions hidden in code. Save the job ID, request payload, status transitions and final file location so a timeout or rejected take can be retried without guessing what ran.
7. Iterate and assemble video concepts in a repeatable workflow
Generation is only one stage. Store prompt, reference image, model, duration, aspect ratio and approval state as structured fields. When a reviewer rejects a shot, change the relevant field, create a new job linked to the prior attempt and leave the original intact. Approved clips can then pass to an editor, captioning step or publishing queue.

A four-stage pipeline
- Collect: gather structured inputs and rights-cleared references.
- Generate or edit: call the image or video service and persist the request metadata.
- Validate: check dimensions, branding, text rendering, safety and human approval.
- Publish or archive: deliver the approved file and retain prompt, model and lineage metadata.
OpenAI exposes video jobs through an API. Adobe’s connected workflow model supports image, video and text/data nodes and published workflows over many assets. Combining those ideas gives you a resumable process instead of a collection of one-off scripts.
How to choose tools for an automated creative pipeline
Compare the dimensions that affect your workload rather than choosing by a single sample image.
| Decision | Questions to answer |
|---|---|
| Control versus speed | Do you need masks, custom nodes and strict composition, or fast first drafts? |
| Single requests versus batch scale | Will people trigger jobs interactively, or will a queue process hundreds of assets? |
| Text-only versus reference-guided | Must the output preserve a product, person, layout or existing image? |
| Edit precision | Can the service target a region, preserve untouched pixels and iterate over turns? |
| Formats and resolution | Are required dimensions, compression, transparency and video orientations supported? |
| Iteration and integration | Can you store job state, retry failures and connect results to your DAM, editor or CMS? |
OpenAI’s image tools emphasize generation, editing, multi-turn context, streaming and output parameters. Adobe emphasizes connected workflow nodes, custom models, compositing and batch execution. Select the service that matches your dominant constraint, and keep validation and approval outside the model so you can change providers later.
Reliability, cost and performance practices
Queue and resume high-volume work
Use a durable queue with an idempotency key based on source ID, prompt version and output settings. Record attempts and retry transient errors with backoff. Do not retry a rejected safety result forever; route it to a review state.
Separate synchronous and asynchronous paths
Interactive concepting can use a synchronous request when the user is waiting. Catalog regeneration and video jobs belong in a worker queue with progress, timeout handling and notifications. OpenAI’s Batch API is appropriate when a 24-hour completion window is acceptable and its documented 50% discount outweighs the delay.

Control spend before generation
- Deduplicate identical inputs and cache approved derivatives.
- Generate a small number of concepts before rendering every channel variant.
- Validate dimensions and file type before expensive downstream steps.
- Attach usage and cost metadata to each campaign and asset.
Keep humans in the loop
Reviewers should check rights, brand consistency, factual claims, legible text, faces and safety. The cited APIs describe capabilities, not guaranteed editorial quality. A recorded approval state is therefore a required pipeline field, not an optional comment.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTroubleshooting common failures
The output ignores a required composition
Use a reference image or mask, describe the immutable regions first and reduce competing instructions. If the layout remains unstable, create a background plate with reserved copy space and add typography in a deterministic design step.
Batch jobs finish with mixed results
Read per-asset status, not only the overall batch status. Quarantine corrupt inputs, retry transient service errors and preserve successful outputs. A resumable queue prevents reprocessing the entire batch.
Video jobs appear stuck
Confirm that your worker is polling the documented job status, has a timeout longer than the expected generation window and stores the job ID. On timeout, mark the attempt unknown and reconcile before submitting a duplicate.
Text, logos or hands are wrong
Do not silently publish. Flag the asset for human review, use a masked edit or add text and logos in a conventional graphics step. Keep the failed output and reason for auditability.

FAQ
Can one workflow handle both images and video?
Yes. Keep shared metadata and approval states, then use modality-specific generation and validation nodes. Video adds asynchronous job tracking and duration/orientation fields.
Should I generate every channel version independently?
Usually no. Approve a parent asset, then derive channel variants from it while preserving lineage and recording each transformation.
When is a batch API preferable to individual requests?
Use batch processing when work is high-volume and can wait for an asynchronous completion window. Interactive previews should remain on a responsive path.
