There is no single Game Pass replacement that guarantees a deep strategy catalog. These seven routes work differently: some bundle games while you subscribe, some stream supported games you already own, and others let you buy titles outright. The right choice depends on the specific games you want, your platform and region, and whether you value access or ownership.
First, check what “included” means
A strategy-game category page is not proof that every listed title comes with a subscription. Microsoft’s UK strategy-filtered catalog mixes Game Pass inclusions with EA Play listings, separately priced games, and free titles. Its examples include Age of Empires IV, Crusader Kings III, Stellaris: Console Edition, Civilization VI, Halo Wars, and Slay the Spire, but each listing’s access terms can differ. Check the individual game page for your region and platform before subscribing or buying. Microsoft’s UK strategy catalog is a useful illustration of why the label alone is not enough.

Seven ways to play strategy games without relying on one catalog
1. EA Play: check whether you already have it
EA Play is a publisher catalog, not a general strategy-game library. Its value depends on whether the EA games you want are included in your region and on your platform. Before purchasing it separately, check your existing Xbox subscription: EA says EA Play is included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, but not Core or Standard. EA Play Pro is separate. On PC, use requires Windows and the EA app. See EA’s explanation of EA Play with Xbox Game Pass.

Standalone EA Play appeared at $5.99 per month on Xbox’s US EA Play page when checked in 2026; that is a US listing, not a universal price guarantee. EA says availability and benefits can vary by platform and territory and may change. Check the Xbox US EA Play page for current terms in that market.

2. Ubisoft+ Classics: a lower-cost Ubisoft catalog route
Ubisoft+ Classics provides access to a selection of Ubisoft games, rather than a broad cross-publisher strategy catalog. Ubisoft’s US plan page listed Classics at $79.99 per year, or a $6.67-per-month equivalent when billed annually, in 2026. These figures describe that US annual plan and should not be treated as a monthly-billing price or as terms for every country. Xbox’s UK plan comparison describes Ubisoft+ Classics as including 50+ iconic games in its covered plan context; that figure is not a count of the separate Premium PC catalog. Check Ubisoft’s US plan selection and Xbox’s UK plan comparison for the respective details.
3. Ubisoft+ Premium: for Ubisoft’s PC catalog and newer releases
Premium is a distinct tier from Classics. Ubisoft’s US page listed Premium at $179.99 per year, equivalent to $15 per month when billed annually, and advertised 145+ PC games and day-one releases in 2026. Ubisoft names Anno among its major franchises, which may make its catalog relevant to some strategy fans; the number of games is not a strategy-title count. Ubisoft also warns that included premium editions may exclude some premium content. Confirm the game, edition, platform, and country-specific terms before subscribing. See Ubisoft’s US Ubisoft+ plans and Ubisoft’s explanation of game and content access.

4. PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium: a console-first catalog
PlayStation Plus offers a changing games catalog, so its usefulness for strategy players depends on which titles are currently offered in their market. Extra and Premium provide catalog access under the applicable PlayStation terms; Premium also offers cloud streaming where supported. Streaming availability and supported devices depend on region, plan, and platform. Check the current game listing and the requirements for your country rather than assuming a title is streamable everywhere. PlayStation’s games page describes its catalog and streaming options.

GeForce NOW is a cloud-streaming service, not an all-you-can-play replacement catalog. It can connect supported PC storefront libraries and stream compatible games you own, but owning a game does not guarantee it is supported on the service. NVIDIA’s guide says to sync existing PC game-store libraries to access games owned on GeForce NOW; check its current supported-game information and your plan’s conditions before relying on a particular title. This route can suit players who want to play a supported PC game on another device without installing it locally. Read NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW guide.

6. GOG: buy DRM-free PC strategy games
GOG is a storefront, not a subscription catalog: you buy selected games rather than renting access while a membership remains active. Its DRM-free strategy category is a useful starting point if you want to build a library you can keep without depending on a rotating subscription lineup. Check each game’s operating-system requirements and store terms before purchase. Browse GOG’s DRM-free strategy games.
7. Buy games from a PC storefront that fits your library
Individual purchases through a PC storefront are another alternative to a recurring catalog fee. Choose this route when you want particular games permanently in your account or library and prefer to compare purchase prices and platform requirements title by title. This is a buying model, not a subscription or a promise of a specific strategy lineup. Check the current listing, supported operating systems, and any account or launcher requirements before purchasing.

How to choose the right route
| Route | What you get | Cost and access model | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| EA Play | EA’s catalog; specific strategy titles vary | Subscription; included with PC Game Pass and Ultimate according to EA, but not Core or Standard | Players who want included EA games and have confirmed the titles they care about |
| Ubisoft+ Classics | A selection of Ubisoft games | Subscription; US page showed $79.99/year, $6.67/month equivalent billed annually in 2026 | Players interested in the Classics selection at its region-specific terms |
| Ubisoft+ Premium | Ubisoft’s PC catalog, with day-one releases listed on the US page | Subscription; US page showed $179.99/year, $15/month equivalent billed annually in 2026 | Players focused on Ubisoft’s PC selection and newer releases |
| PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium | A changing PlayStation catalog; Premium includes streaming under supported conditions | Subscription; plan and streaming availability vary by market and platform | Console players who verify the current local catalog |
| GeForce NOW | Cloud access to supported games in connected storefront libraries | Streaming service; not a general game catalog, and support is title-specific | Players who already own compatible games and want to stream them |
| GOG | DRM-free games available for purchase | Individual purchases, not a subscription | Players who prefer buying selected PC games |
| Other PC storefront purchases | Games bought individually; catalog and terms depend on the store | Individual purchases, not a subscription | Players who want to choose specific titles and keep access through their store account |
Use the table as a model comparison, not a ranking of strategy catalogs: the cited sources do not establish a definitive seven-service ranking or a complete, comparable count of strategy games. Before paying, check the exact title’s current availability, edition, region, and platform. Also compare recurring fees against any subscription you already have; paying separately for EA Play may be unnecessary if your existing PC Game Pass or Ultimate plan already includes it.
