7 ChatGPT entertainment plugins and the prompts that improve music, movie, game and manga recommendations

A 17 October 2026 feature by Elton Jones in Tom’s Guide highlights seven ChatGPT entertainment plugins for discovering music, movies, television, video games, manga and chess practice. The useful idea is not simply asking for recommendations: each prompt supplies your favorites and tells the tool how to rank, compare or organize the results.

The feature is a first-person account rather than a controlled test, and it does not establish current plugin-directory listings, paid-plan support, regional access or catalog availability. Treat the prompts as reusable templates, then verify where a title is available before watching, buying or subscribing.

What the seven plugins cover

The lineup divides into two music tools, two movie-and-TV tools, one game recommender, one manga recommender and one chess coach. The table shows what each prompt asks for and what it returns.

Spotify: ask for a playlist with a listening arc

The Spotify prompt asks for more than a list of similar artists. It requests unfamiliar songs, an explanation of why each track fits, and an order that feels like a coherent playlist. The feature says this approach moved from Devin Morrison to Gareth Donkin, an example of how a prompt can connect adjacent artists rather than repeat obvious hits.

Analyze my music taste and recommend [number] songs I probably haven't heard but will love. Focus on artists and genres that match my favorites, explain why each song fits, and organize the picks into a playlist with a great listening flow. [list favorite artists and genres]

Replace the bracketed fields with a specific number and a concise list of artists and genres. If the results are too familiar, add a constraint such as “favor releases from the last five years” or “include artists outside the mainstream,” while keeping the original taste information.

Apple Music: balance familiar tracks and discoveries

The Apple Music template is aimed at sequencing rather than deep explanation. It explicitly asks for a mix of songs you already know and new discoveries, avoids repetitive sounds and makes the energy rise and fall naturally. Jones’s examples combine Smino, Tiana Major9 and Clyde Crooks across rap and hip-hop, R&B and alternative music.

Create a [number]-song playlist inspired by my favorite artists: [list artists]. Include a mix of familiar songs and discoveries, avoid repetitive sounds, and arrange the tracks so the energy rises and falls naturally.

Use a smaller number when you want a tightly paced commute playlist and a larger number for a workday or party. Naming several artists from different styles gives the model room to vary texture without abandoning your preferences.

Tubi: turn a free catalog into a movie-night plan

Tubi’s prompt treats selection as an occasion. It asks for films available on Tubi, ranks them by entertainment value and identifies the best choice for a fun night versus a serious movie night. The feature names Hotel Artemis, Mayhem, Rolling Thunder and Crime Story as examples.

Plan a free movie night for me using movies available on Tubi. I like [genres, favorite films, or actors]. Give me [number] options, rank them by how entertaining they sound, and tell me which one is best for a fun night versus a serious movie night.

Because streaming libraries and rights differ by country and change over time, check the title in your local Tubi catalog immediately before starting the movie. The prompt can produce a ranked shortlist, but it cannot guarantee that every recommendation remains available.

Flixor: match atmosphere, not just genre

Flixor is presented as the broadest screen-discovery tool in the feature. Jones says it surfaced titles across Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Hulu, including Sicario, Perfect Blue, Dark and Black Lagoon. Its distinguishing instruction is to compare atmosphere, storytelling, character development and twists instead of matching only a genre label.

Recommend [number] movies or TV shows based on my favorites: [list titles]. Focus on similar atmosphere, storytelling, character development, and twists rather than just the same genre. Rank the recommendations and explain why each suits my taste.

This style of recommendation can also lead to a physical purchase when a film becomes a keeper; the feature specifically describes Sicario as a natural Blu-ray example. Verify edition, retailer stock and regional format before buying, since none of those details are established by the feature.

GameFinder: describe the mechanics you actually enjoy

GameFinder asks ChatGPT to infer the reasons behind your favorites. Instead of matching a broad genre such as “action,” it examines combat, exploration, progression, atmosphere, story and difficulty, then ranks the results and includes at least five underrated picks. Jones reports discovering A Hat in Time, ULTRAKILL, Spark the Electric Jester and Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden through this approach.

Recommend [number] video games based on my favorite games: [list games]. Analyze what I enjoy about them, including combat, exploration, progression, atmosphere, story, and difficulty. Rank your recommendations by how likely I am to love them, and include at least five underrated picks.

Include games that reveal different sides of your taste—for example, one chosen for combat and another for exploration. Asking for the reason behind each match makes it easier to reject a recommendation that shares a setting but not the mechanics you value.

Emaqi: separate mainstream manga from overlooked series

Emaqi’s template has a built-in split: five mainstream recommendations and seven underrated ones. It asks for comparisons across storytelling, artwork, characters, pacing and worldbuilding, and requests a warning about whether a series is complete or ongoing when that information is available. The feature names Psyren, Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai and O-Parts Hunter among the recommendations.

Recommend [number] manga based on my favorite series: [list series]. Compare their storytelling, artwork, characters, pacing, and worldbuilding. Give me five mainstream picks and seven underrated recommendations. Flag whether each series is complete or ongoing when that information is available, and avoid spoilers.

Completion status is particularly useful for readers deciding whether to start a long-running title, but publication status can change and should be checked with a current publisher or library listing. Keeping “avoid spoilers” in the prompt sets a clear boundary for the explanations.

Chessy: play and learn one move at a time

Chessy is not a recommendation list. It is an instructional opponent. The player chooses moves, while ChatGPT explains its strategy in plain English and responds after every move with one thing done well and one mistake to watch for. The requested balance—competitive but educational—helps a beginner learn without turning the game into an opaque engine analysis.

Play a chess game with me. I'm a beginner, so let me choose my moves while you explain your strategy in plain English. After each of my moves, tell me one thing I did well and one mistake I should watch for. Keep the game competitive but educational.

Tell the tool when you need to pause for an explanation, and ask it to identify the tactical idea in simple terms rather than naming only an opening or engine evaluation. The feature describes this feedback loop as the main value: you practice decision-making while receiving immediate, understandable coaching.

How to get better results from any of the seven

  1. Supply real favorites. Give several specific artists, films, games or series instead of a single broad genre.
  2. Set a count and a ranking rule. State how many results you want and ask the tool to rank them by fit, entertainment, likelihood of enjoyment or another explicit criterion.
  3. Name the dimensions that matter. Use energy flow for music; atmosphere, pacing and twists for screen titles; mechanics and difficulty for games; and artwork, characters and worldbuilding for manga.
  4. Ask for a useful format. A playlist, ranked table, free movie-night plan, underrated-only section or move-by-move lesson is more actionable than an unstructured list.
  5. Verify before acting. Streaming catalogs, plugin listings, plan requirements, regional access, completion status and physical editions are not guaranteed by the prompts.

These tools are best understood as discovery interfaces: they organize your preferences and make the reasoning visible. They do not replace checking a current catalog, confirming a title’s edition or deciding whether a recommendation actually suits your evening.
