1. Importer makes switching notes apps less painful
Importer is an official community plugin made by the Obsidian team. It converts supported sources into plain-text Markdown files in an Obsidian vault, including Apple Notes, OneNote, Evernote, Notion, Google Keep, HTML and CSV. Its templates can also modify imported titles, properties and content.
That makes Importer the foundation of the stack: you can bring your existing material across before deciding whether Obsidian works for you. Treat each source as a separate migration project, however. The documented formats do not guarantee perfect fidelity for every attachment, layout, database or proprietary field. Keep the original export until you have checked the converted files.

2. Wikipedia Helper keeps research in context
Buck says Wikipedia Helper replaced the habit of opening a browser window whenever he needed a Wikipedia lookup. Its value is convenience: the lookup sits closer to the notes where you are collecting research, reducing context switches.
It is best understood as a research-access layer, not a replacement for Wikipedia. The available evidence does not establish its full feature set, search behavior, caching or offline operation, so choose it for a tighter workflow rather than for capabilities that have not been documented.

3. Excalidraw brings visual thinking into the vault
Excalidraw moved much of Buck’s diagramming from draw.io into Obsidian. He used it for website flows and creative planning, while valuing that drawings remain beside related notes and are available on both mobile and computer. The Obsidian community listing documents PNG and SVG export.

- Sketches, wireflows and early-stage planning that benefit from a freeform canvas.
- Projects where the drawing should stay with the Markdown notes and travel with the vault.
- Work that needs image export rather than a separate diagram file system.
When a dedicated tool is preferable
Formal diagrams with strict layout rules, extensive symbol libraries, review workflows or specialized collaboration needs can still justify a dedicated application. Excalidraw’s advantage here is proximity and portability, not proof that it matches every advanced diagramming feature.

4. Tasks turns Markdown lines into a task workflow
Buck contrasts Tasks with Todoist. In his workflow, task lines remain in the vault while the plugin adds due dates, reminders and statuses through commands, allowing him to track work across notes instead of maintaining a separate task database.

5. Kanban supplies the visual layer Tasks lacks
Kanban is a community plugin that provides a board for moving work through stages. Buck pairs it with Tasks to plan a YouTube channel: Tasks holds the task details, while Kanban makes the current stage visible at a glance.

You can represent stages such as ideas, scripting, production and published, then move cards as work advances. The evidence supports staged planning, not assumptions about shared boards, cloud synchronization or analytics; those requirements should be checked before replacing a team workspace.
6. QuickAdd is the automation and capture layer
The official QuickAdd guide describes commands for repetitive actions such as creating a note from a template, logging a line or running a script from a hotkey. Its documented workflows include templates, captures, macros, scripts and APIs, AI-assistant actions and Kanban-card creation, with desktop and mobile support.
A safer way to build automations
- Start with one repeated action, such as a daily note or inbox capture.
- Turn that action into a QuickAdd choice and assign a shortcut where your device supports one.
- Use it for a week before adding a macro or script.
- Add more steps only after the basic command is reliable; complex chains are harder to debug and maintain.
QuickAdd can replace the parts of an automation app that begin and end inside Obsidian. It is less obviously a replacement when you need external triggers, system-wide actions or integrations outside the vault.

Should you delete your other productivity apps?
Use this stack when portability, local Markdown ownership and a single linked workspace matter more than turnkey collaboration. Migrate a copy with Importer, test your real task and reminder patterns, sketch a representative project in Excalidraw, and automate only the captures you repeat. Keep a specialist app if it supplies a requirement this stack does not meet—especially shared work, external triggers, advanced diagram controls or mature reporting.
