Bright Data is the strongest all-around choice for large scraping operations, while Oxylabs is the better fit for enterprise teams. Decodo (formerly Smartproxy) targets budget-conscious mid-market users, Webshare is the easiest place to test with a free tier, Rayobyte offers flexible static and rotating formats, and IPRoyal combines broad geographic targeting with pay-as-you-go access.
Datacenter proxies run from server-farm IP ranges rather than residential internet connections. That makes them generally fast and inexpensive, but protected websites can identify those ranges more easily. The right provider therefore depends on target defenses, required countries, session behavior, concurrency, protocol, support and how much tooling you need around the proxy itself.
What is a datacenter proxy?
A datacenter proxy is an intermediary server hosted in a commercial data center. Your scraper connects to the proxy, and the proxy requests the target page, so the destination sees the proxy’s IP address instead of yours.
- Advantages: high throughput, predictable infrastructure and lower cost than residential IPs.
- Limitations: data-center ranges are easier for anti-bot systems to classify, especially when many requests share recognizable networks.
- Best fit: high-volume crawls against sites with moderate defenses.
- Use another proxy type when: a target aggressively blocks data-center traffic (residential), or a logged-in, long-running identity must remain stable (static ISP proxy).
Rotation is useful when each request should come from a fresh address. A static or sticky session is better when cookies, authentication or cart state must persist.

2. Oxylabs: enterprise operations
Oxylabs is aimed at teams that need managed infrastructure and established browser or crawler integrations. Proxyway reports over two million dedicated datacenter IPs in 188 countries, shared lists and unlimited concurrent connections. Its documented integrations cover Selenium, Puppeteer, Playwright and Scrapy, reducing custom adapter work. Treat its 99.9% success and 0.222-second response figures as claims from Oxylabs rather than guarantees for your target sites.
3. Decodo: budget-oriented mid-market work
Decodo, formerly Smartproxy, supports HTTP(S), SOCKS5 and QUIC and offers both shared and dedicated pools. Optional rotation and high concurrency suit parallel crawlers. Proxyway reports a recurring free allowance of 10 fixed US proxies, 1 GB per month and 100 concurrent connections. Because published pool totals differ between comparison sources, check the countries and inventory available in the account type you intend to buy.
4. Webshare: easiest self-serve starting point
Webshare provides shared, semi-shared and dedicated formats, HTTP/SOCKS5 and gateway rotation in more than 50 countries. Its reported free plan supplies 10 shared proxies and 1 GB monthly traffic. That is useful for validating parser logic, rate limits and ban behavior before committing budget. Free shared addresses are not a substitute for dedicated capacity on a production crawl.

How to choose the right provider
Match the proxy to the target
- Lightly protected, high-volume pages: start with datacenter IPs for speed and cost.
- Anti-bot-heavy sites: test residential proxies or a managed unblocking product instead of simply increasing datacenter rotation.
- Authenticated workflows: use static or sticky sessions so cookies and login state remain consistent.
Check the operating requirements
- Geography: confirm the country, city, ZIP or ASN you need; headline pool totals do not guarantee inventory in every location.
- Protocol: HTTP(S) is common for ordinary crawlers; SOCKS5 covers applications that cannot use HTTP proxying; QUIC support can matter for modern transports.
- Concurrency: compare your planned parallel requests with the provider’s documented limits or included allowance.
- Rotation: choose per-request rotation for broad discovery and sticky/static sessions for identity continuity.
- Operations: check KYC, acceptable-use rules, IP sourcing policies, support channels and refund or trial terms before sending production traffic.
Which provider is cheapest?
The supplied comparisons do not provide a single, current apples-to-apples price table, so no provider can be declared universally cheapest. Rayobyte is described as relatively inexpensive for traffic-based datacenter usage; Decodo and Webshare emphasize budget or free entry options; IPRoyal offers pay-as-you-go flexibility. Calculate total monthly traffic, required dedicated addresses, concurrency and geographic premiums rather than comparing a headline per-gigabyte number alone.
Keep credentials out of source control and pass the proxy through environment variables or a secret manager. The examples below use a provider URL supplied in A successful response proves connectivity, not that the target will permit sustained crawling. Add rate limits, retries with backoff and a clear user agent that follows the target site’s rules. The Tool Desk Set Node’s built-in Check the host, port, credentials and protocol, then test a simple URL with cURL. If only one location fails, switch to another IP or region and ask the provider whether that endpoint is active. Confirm URL encoding for special characters in the username or password. Some dashboards use IP allowlists instead of credentials; configure the current public IP exactly as required. Reduce concurrency and request frequency, preserve a realistic session, and stop retrying the same address. If the target consistently blocks datacenter ranges, move to a residential or ISP product or a provider’s managed unblocking tool. Verify that your client follows redirects and accepts the content types the site serves. Browser-rendered pages may require Playwright or Selenium; Oxylabs documents integrations for those tools, but a proxy alone does not render JavaScript. Inspect response sizes, retries and accidental media downloads. Set provider-side traffic caps where available, cache unchanged pages and restrict crawling to URLs required for the job. When your workflow needs a clean visual record of a page rather than raw HTML, ScreenshotNeo is a separate website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. It accepts a URL and returns PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF. Before capture it can accept cookie-consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be disabled. Bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server exposes Free tools Windows power users keep installed One-click scans. No signup required. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for the 63 capture options, including full-page lazy-image loading, CSS-selector element capture, device presets, retina scale, dark mode, custom headers and cookies, JavaScript, waits, blocked resources, geolocation, PDF settings, caching, signed links, asynchronous webhooks and bulk capture. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots; every feature is included on every plan. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account. Yes. Configure the browser’s proxy server and credentials before launching the session; Oxylabs explicitly documents Selenium, Puppeteer and Playwright integrations. The proxy changes the network origin but does not by itself solve browser fingerprinting or CAPTCHA challenges. There is no universal number. Size the pool from your request rate, target limits, session duration and expected error rate, then increase gradually while monitoring responses. A larger pool cannot compensate for requests that violate a site’s limits. Free allowances from Webshare and Decodo are useful for testing connectivity and parsers. Their traffic, address count and shared nature make them unsuitable as an automatic guarantee of production capacity. Not necessarily. Published totals can cover different products, countries or counting methods. Confirm the exact plan, locations, dedicated allocation and rotation behavior in the provider’s current terms.
