How do I know if an Amazon deal is actually a good deal? Compare the exact item’s price history, seller and full checkout cost—not just its discount badge. Prime Big Deal Days 2026 is scheduled for October 6–7, so use these five checks to judge offers before urgency cues push you into a purchase.
1. Check the item’s price history
On an Amazon product page, look for the Price History link. Amazon says its feature can show 30-, 90- and 365-day views. Compare the event price with both the recent pattern and the longer view when available; a crossed-out reference price alone does not show whether the current offer is unusually low for that product.

Amazon’s FAQ recommends using Price History to see up to 365 days of pricing data. Amazon reports availability in the U.S., UK, Canada and India; its June 24, 2026 update said 365-day insights were rolling out in the U.S., UK and India. The feature and its date ranges may vary by availability or rollout. Amazon’s price-history announcement

Amazon also says its deal savings use validated reference prices, including List Price or Typical Price, and that it works for offers to be the lowest price in at least the previous 30 days. That describes Amazon’s own deal-validation process; it does not independently establish that a specific listing is the best offer available. Check the item’s history and compare sellers too. #1 Best Overall
- Amazon.com Gift Cards never expire and carry no fees.
- Multiple gift card designs and denominations to choose from.
- Redeemable towards millions of items store-wide at Amazon.com or certain affiliated websites.
- Available for immediate delivery. Gift cards sent by email can be scheduled up to a year in advance.
- No returns and no refunds on Gift Cards.
2. Make sure it is the exact product
Before comparing prices, note the manufacturer and model number. Also check size, color, capacity, generation, condition and bundle contents. A lower price on a previous model, smaller capacity or stripped-down bundle is not a like-for-like saving.
The FTC recommends recording product and model details when comparison shopping. Match those details across listings before deciding that one seller has the better price. FTC guide to comparing products and sellers online

3. Compare the total checkout cost
Compare what you would actually pay, not just the price shown in search results. Include shipping, handling, delivery, taxes and other applicable fees. Check whether a coupon must be clipped, a membership is required, or another condition applies to get the advertised price. Costs and requirements can differ by transaction and jurisdiction.

4. Verify the seller and listing
Check who sells the item and who ships it, then confirm the condition—such as new or refurbished—and that the listing describes the product you meant to buy. Read reviews in context: consider what the reviewer says about the specific model and when the review was written, rather than relying on a star rating alone. The FTC cautions that comparison sites and reviews can vary in trustworthiness. FTC advice on reviews and comparison shopping
For a meaningful comparison, also check the return terms and warranty shown for each offer. Do not assume those terms match just because the product name does.

- Gift Card is nested inside a specialty gift box

- Scan and redeem any Gift Card with a mobile or tablet device via the Amazon App
5. Set a target price—and be willing to skip the deal
Before the event, put only items you already intend to buy on a list. For each one, choose a target price that would make the purchase worthwhile, then compare the offer against that target and the item’s history. This is a practical way to keep the decision tied to your needs rather than a countdown, limited-quantity notice or large percentage badge.
Amazon’s 2026 event is scheduled to begin at 12:01 a.m. PDT on October 6 and end at 11:59 p.m. PDT on October 7. A short event window does not make an offer good value by itself. Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days announcement

What makes a crossed-out price meaningful?
A reference price can provide useful context, but it is not the same as proof that a product is a bargain. In its Guides Against Deceptive Pricing, 16 C.F.R. § 233.1, the Federal Trade Commission says a former price used for comparison should be an actual, bona fide price at which the item was regularly offered for a reasonably substantial period. That guidance is context for understanding former-price claims, not a finding that any particular Amazon listing is unlawful. FTC Guides Against Deceptive Pricing, 16 C.F.R. § 233.1
