5 Ways to Get an Alaska IP Address: The VPNs and Checks That Actually Matter

Private Internet Access (PIA) is the clearest choice when you specifically need an Alaska IP: its Alaska location assigns an Anchorage IP and its own FAQ explains that the location is virtual rather than physically hosted in Alaska. NordVPN also lists Alaska and Anchorage in its U.S. location catalog. ExpressVPN and Proton VPN advertise broad U.S. access, but the pages examined do not confirm a selectable Alaska endpoint. A fifth practical choice is a VPN you already own, provided its app currently lists Alaska or Anchorage and your post-connection IP check confirms the result.

“Super fast” cannot be promised from a location listing. Your ISP, physical location, route to the endpoint, device, VPN protocol, server load and the target service all affect performance. Use the steps below to verify both the location and the speed on your own connection.

Quick comparison: which option fits your Alaska-IP goal?

Choice What is confirmed Best use Important limitation
Private Internet Access Its Alaska page advertises an Anchorage IP and locations in all 50 states. Readers whose main requirement is an explicitly selectable Alaska location. PIA says the Alaska location is virtual; the servers are not physically in Alaska.
NordVPN Its U.S. server page lists Alaska and Anchorage. Readers who want a major provider with a named Anchorage location in its catalog. The listing does not establish comparative Alaska speeds or uninterrupted access to third-party services.
ExpressVPN Its U.S. page advertises coverage across all 50 states and explains how to obtain a U.S. IP. Readers who value broad U.S. coverage and are willing to check the current app list. The consulted material does not independently confirm an Alaska-specific endpoint.
Proton VPN Its U.S. page describes U.S. servers and a free plan; it says streaming guarantees apply only to paid plans. Readers considering a no-cost starting point or a privacy-focused U.S. service. The cited page does not confirm an Alaska endpoint, and the free plan is not presented as a guaranteed streaming solution.
Your current VPN, after verification Any provider whose live app list contains Alaska or Anchorage can potentially meet the location requirement. Subscribers who want to avoid buying another service. A generic “U.S. servers” label is not proof of an Alaska IP; verify before relying on it.

This is an evidence-ranked list, not a speed leaderboard. The available provider pages establish location claims, not a controlled Alaska-specific benchmark.

What an “Alaska VPN” actually does

A VPN encrypts traffic between your device and a VPN endpoint, then makes websites see the endpoint’s public IP address. If that endpoint is mapped to Alaska, an IP-lookup service may report Alaska or Anchorage instead of your ordinary location. That can help with location-sensitive testing, accessing a service intended for an Alaska audience, or checking how a website responds to an Alaska network.

An Alaska IP does not automatically make you physically appear inside the state to every system. Databases differ, some services use additional signals such as GPS, account history or payment details, and VPN addresses can be recognized or blocked. A successful IP lookup therefore proves only what the lookup reports; it does not guarantee that a bank, streaming platform or other service will accept the connection.

1. Private Internet Access: the most clearly documented Alaska endpoint

PIA is the strongest first choice when “Alaska IP” is the exact requirement because its Alaska page explicitly says the location assigns an Anchorage IP. It also advertises locations in all 50 states, which is useful if you may need to switch among U.S. states later.

PIA makes an unusually important disclosure in its FAQ: “While PIA has a server location for Alaska that assigns you an IP address from Anchorage, we don’t actually have physical servers in the state.” Treat that as a virtual-location arrangement, not as evidence of hardware located in Alaska. The distinction matters if your project depends on physical geography, local latency or a compliance rule requiring in-state infrastructure.

Why choose it

  • The provider names Alaska and Anchorage rather than relying only on a nationwide U.S. claim.
  • The location model is explained publicly, so you can make an informed choice about virtual versus physical presence.
  • PIA recommends checking the IP after connecting, giving you a concrete verification step.

What to check before subscribing

  • Open the current location list in the app or account area and confirm that Alaska is still selectable.
  • Check whether the Alaska location is available on the plan you intend to buy.
  • Review the provider’s current privacy and protocol settings for your device.

2. NordVPN: a named Anchorage listing

NordVPN’s U.S. server page lists Alaska among the states and Anchorage among the cities. That is direct evidence of an advertised Alaska location and makes it the next logical option for readers who want a large provider with a clearly named city.

  • 【Keep your Internet Safe】IPv6 supported. OpenVPN & WireGuard pre-installed, compatible with 30+ VPN service providers. Cloudflare encryption supported to protect the privacy.

How to evaluate the listing

Location catalogs change. After installing the app, search the server list for “Alaska” and “Anchorage,” then connect to the exact entry rather than a generic U.S. recommendation. If the app shows multiple Alaska entries, record which one you used so you can repeat a successful setup.

Limits of the evidence

The U.S. page confirms a listed location, not a head-to-head Alaska speed result. It also does not promise that every third-party site will allow the connection. Use your own latency and download tests, and test the particular service you need after the IP check succeeds.

3. ExpressVPN: broad U.S. coverage that still needs Alaska confirmation

ExpressVPN’s official U.S. page advertises server locations across all 50 states and explains the general process for obtaining a U.S. IP. That breadth can be useful, but “all 50 states” is not the same as a confirmed, selectable Alaska or Anchorage endpoint in the evidence available here.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to make it a valid Alaska choice

  1. Install the current app for your operating system.
  2. Open the full location list, not just the automatic or recommended U.S. tile.
  3. Search for “Alaska” and “Anchorage.”
  4. Connect only if the app presents a clearly labeled Alaska location.
  5. Run an IP lookup and confirm the reported state before using the connection for your task.

If the app offers only a generic U.S. location, treat it as a U.S.-IP option rather than an Alaska-IP solution. Do not infer the state from a provider’s nationwide marketing language.

4. Proton VPN: a free starting point, with a location caveat

Proton VPN’s U.S. page describes access to U.S. servers and includes a free plan. That can make it attractive if you want to test VPN setup without immediately paying. The same page says geo-blocked streaming is guaranteed only on paid plans.

When it makes sense

  • You want to learn the connection and verification process before choosing a subscription.
  • You need a general U.S. connection and Alaska is not a strict requirement.
  • You are comfortable checking the live location catalog instead of assuming that U.S. access includes Alaska.

When to choose something else

The cited Proton page does not confirm an Alaska-specific endpoint. If your task fails unless the IP database reports Alaska, do not count a generic U.S. server as success. Confirm the state in the app and with an external lookup first. For streaming, remember that the provider’s stated guarantee applies only to paid plans, and even a paid plan cannot override every service’s VPN-blocking policy.

5. Your existing VPN: the practical fifth option

You may not need a new subscription. A current VPN becomes a legitimate Alaska option only when its live app list contains Alaska or Anchorage and the resulting address verifies correctly. This approach avoids paying for a second service, but it requires stricter checking because a provider’s general U.S. coverage does not establish Alaska availability.

Verification checklist

  • Search the provider’s location list for both “Alaska” and “Anchorage.”
  • Prefer a location label that identifies the state or city, not merely “United States.”
  • Connect, then use an independent IP-lookup service.
  • Check the reported country, state and city, and note the lookup time.
  • Repeat the check after reconnecting if the first result is unexpected.

If your provider does not expose an Alaska location or the lookup reports another state, it has not met the requirement. Keep it as a general U.S. VPN, not as an Alaska-IP choice.

How to get and verify an Alaska IP address

  1. Choose a provider with an explicit listing. PIA and NordVPN have the clearest Alaska or Anchorage evidence. For other providers, verify the current catalog before purchase.
  2. Install the official app. Use the current application for your phone, computer or supported router, and sign in to the account that includes the desired locations.
  3. Open the complete server list. Do not rely on an automatic “fastest” button, which may choose a nearby state instead of Alaska.
  4. Search for Alaska or Anchorage. Select the state or city entry when it appears. If neither appears, stop and treat the provider as unconfirmed for this task.
  5. Connect and wait for the status to change. Keep the app open until it reports an active connection.
  6. Check the public IP. Use a reputable IP-lookup site and confirm that the reported location is Alaska or Anchorage. Save the result if you need an audit trail.
  7. Test the target service. Open the website or app you actually need. A correct IP result does not ensure that the service will accept VPN traffic.
  8. Measure performance on your connection. Run several tests at different times, recording download speed, upload speed, latency and the selected endpoint. Compare those results with your normal connection rather than with an unverified online benchmark.

Why your Alaska connection may not be “super fast”

Distance and routing can make an Alaska endpoint slower than a nearby server, especially if you are connecting from outside the western United States. Encryption overhead, the selected protocol, Wi-Fi quality, ISP congestion, endpoint load and the device’s processor also affect results. A provider’s general U.S. speed claim is not an Alaska-specific measurement.

Ways to improve speed without losing the location

  • Try another listed Alaska or Anchorage endpoint if the app provides more than one.
  • Use a modern VPN protocol offered by the provider, then retest latency and throughput.
  • Switch from congested Wi-Fi to wired Ethernet or a stronger local connection.
  • Close large downloads, cloud backups and other traffic during the test.
  • Compare results at morning, afternoon and evening; congestion can vary substantially.
  • Keep the endpoint fixed while testing so you are comparing like with like.

Troubleshooting an incorrect location or blocked service

The lookup reports another state

Disconnect and reconnect to the named Alaska location, then check again. If the result remains outside Alaska, the provider may be using a different address range than its label suggests, or the lookup database may be stale. Try a second reputable lookup service and record both results. Do not claim an Alaska IP until the evidence is consistent enough for your use case.

The app no longer shows Alaska

Location catalogs can change. Update the app, sign out and back in, and inspect the full list rather than a favorites view. If Alaska is still absent, contact the provider or select a different service whose current catalog explicitly lists Alaska or Anchorage.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A streaming or banking site rejects the connection

Services can identify and block VPN address ranges, compare your account or billing country, or use signals beyond the IP address. Clearing browser cookies may help with a stale session, but it cannot guarantee access. Follow the service’s terms and use a normal connection if its policy prohibits VPN use.

Websites show conflicting locations

IP databases update at different times and may map the same address to a city, a nearby region or only the United States. Compare the databases used by your target service, and do not treat a single city label as proof of physical server placement.

Privacy and physical-location questions

An Alaska IP is a location-selection feature, not a substitute for reading a provider’s privacy policy. Check the provider’s current logging disclosures, account requirements, protocol choices, kill-switch behavior and support for your operating system before subscribing. Those details are separate from whether an endpoint is mapped to Alaska.

PIA’s disclosure is the clearest reminder that an IP location and a server’s physical location are different facts. If an employer, regulator or contract requires traffic to be processed inside Alaska, an advertised Anchorage IP is not sufficient evidence; request written infrastructure details from the provider.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Consumer VPNs versus the State of Alaska employee VPN

The State of Alaska Office of Information Technology describes its VPN as a tool for authorized users to reach state network resources remotely. Access is authorized by a department. That system is not a consumer service for selecting an Alaska IP, and using a consumer VPN will not grant access to state networks.

Which option should you choose?

  • Choose PIA when an explicitly advertised Anchorage IP is the priority and you accept a virtual location.
  • Choose NordVPN when you want a provider whose current U.S. catalog names both Alaska and Anchorage.
  • Check ExpressVPN first if you already use it or prefer its broad U.S. coverage, but proceed only when the app shows Alaska or Anchorage.
  • Try Proton VPN when a free starting point matters, while treating Alaska availability and streaming access as items to verify.
  • Use your existing VPN when it passes the same live-list and IP-lookup checks; this may be the simplest route if you already pay for service.

Whichever route you take, select the named location, verify the resulting IP, and test the service and speed that matter to you. That three-part check is more reliable than a generic promise of U.S. coverage or a “fast” label.
