The easiest way to boost bass in headphones is to adjust an equalizer (EQ) on the device, music app, or headphones you already use. If those controls do not work across your audio sources, a portable DAC/amp with onboard EQ is another option. There is no evidence here to rank five products by sound quality, so this guide compares five practical methods rather than claiming tested winners.
What a headphone bass booster does
A bass booster raises the level of low frequencies through EQ. An amplifier may provide more drive, but it does not automatically change the headphone’s tonal balance; the EQ adjustment is what boosts bass. The right starting point depends on where your audio plays and which controls are compatible with your headphones.

Five ways to boost headphone bass
1. Adjust EQ in your music app
Check the playback app’s sound or EQ settings first. Apple documents EQ controls for Music, but an app-level setting may not affect audio played elsewhere. Confirm the control works with the music and device you actually use. Apple’s guide to adjusting headphone audio settings covers its available controls.

2. Use your phone or computer’s audio settings
Some devices offer system-level sound adjustments that can affect more than one app. Availability and behavior depend on the operating system, device, and audio route; do not assume a setting applies to every connected headphone or source. Apple’s documented options include headphone audio controls on supported devices and headphones. Check Apple’s compatibility and setup guidance if you use an iPhone or iPad.
#1 Best Overall
- Block the World, Keep the Music: Four built-in mics work together to filter out background noise — whether you're in a packed office, on a crowded commute, or moving through a busy street — so every beat comes through clean and clear. (Not available in AUX-in mode.)
- Two Ways to Hear More: BassUp technology delivers deep, punchy bass and crisp highs in wireless mode — then step it up further by plugging in the included AUX cable to unlock Hi‑Res certified audio for studio-level clarity.
- 40 Hours. 5-Minute Top-Up: With ANC on, a single charge keeps you listening through days of commutes and long-haul flights. Running low? Just 5 minutes plugged in gives you 4 more hours — so you're never stuck waiting.
- Two Devices, Zero Hassle: Stay connected to your laptop and phone at the same time. Audio switches automatically to whichever device needs you — so a call never interrupts your flow, and getting back to your playlist is just as easy. Designed for commuters and remote workers who move smoothly between work and personal listening throughout the day.
- Your Sound, Your Rules: The soundcore app puts everything at your fingertips — dials your ideal EQ with presets or build your own, flip between ANC, Normal, and Transparency modes on the fly, or wind down with built-in white noise. One app, total control.
3. Try headphone accommodations or a maker’s sound profile
Supported Apple headphones can use Headphone Accommodations for manual tone and amplification adjustments. Compatibility is limited to listed AirPods, Beats, and EarPods models and depends on the connected device. Some headphones also expose their own sound profiles: for example, Audeze’s Maxwell 2 guide describes a Bass Boost shelf. That feature is specific to that product, not a standard capability across headphones. Apple’s support page and Audeze’s Maxwell 2 guide explain their respective controls.
4. Apply headphone-specific EQ presets
If you use a configurable EQ, a preset tailored to your headphone can be a more deliberate starting point than a generic bass slider. The Qudelix manual distinguishes user-preference EQ from headphone/speaker EQ and recommends the latter for headphone tuning; it also explains how to apply AutoEq presets. Presets still need to suit your preference and the specific headphone. See the Qudelix-5K manual for its EQ categories and preset controls.

- Dual-Connections: Connect to two devices simultaneously with Bluetooth 5.0 and instantly switch between them. Whether you're working on your laptop, or need to take a phone call, audio from your Bluetooth headphones will automatically play from the device you need to hear from.
- App for EQ Customization: Download the soundcore app to tailor your sound using the customizable EQ, with 22 presets, or adjust it yourself. You can also switch between 3 modes: ANC, Normal, and Transparency, and relax with white noise.
5. Use a portable DAC/amp with onboard EQ
If you need EQ across multiple sources, a hardware option may help. Qudelix describes the 5K as a Bluetooth and USB DAC/amp with embedded EQ and settings stored on the device. Its documentation lists audio routes including YouTube, Apple Music, Spotify, iOS, Android, PC, Bluetooth, and USB. Check the current compatibility details and connection you plan to use: listed routes do not mean every configuration behaves identically. Qudelix’s product page and manual describe the device and its features.

| Method | Best starting point for | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Music-app EQ | Someone who wants to change bass for music played in one app | Whether the app offers the adjustment and whether it affects only that app |
| Device-level audio controls | Someone seeking adjustments outside a single playback app | Operating-system, device, and headphone compatibility |
| Headphone accommodations or maker profile | Someone whose compatible headphones expose built-in sound adjustments | Supported model, available controls, and whether the profile can be adjusted |
| Headphone-specific EQ preset | Someone using a configurable EQ who wants a tuning starting point for a particular headphone | Correct headphone selection and preset support in the EQ system |
| Portable DAC/amp with onboard EQ | Someone who needs hardware-based settings across supported sources | Connection and source compatibility, portability, and whether the headphone needs additional drive |
Start with a built-in control before buying anything. Consider external hardware only if the existing EQ cannot reach the sources or settings you need. The available product documentation describes features, not comparative listening-test results, so it does not establish a best-sounding option.

How to adjust bass without introducing distortion
- Find the EQ control. Start in the music app or device settings, then check whether your headphones provide their own profile.
- Make a modest bass adjustment. Listen at a consistent volume while comparing the change; this is a practical way to judge your preference, not a measured product result.
- Listen for clipping or saturation. If the sound becomes harsh or distorted after a positive EQ boost, reduce the boost or lower the signal before EQ.
- Use preamp gain or headroom when available. Qudelix explains that positive filter gain can clip or saturate input audio, and recommends scaling the signal down before filters using preamp gain and headroom. Read Qudelix’s equalizer documentation.
What this comparison can—and cannot—tell you
Apple, Qudelix, and Audeze documentation establish that the listed controls and features exist for the specified products and supported configurations. They do not provide a shared listening test, independent frequency-response measurements, or evidence that one method produces better bass than another. Compatibility, software support, and hardware prices can change, so check the manufacturer’s current specifications before making a purchase.
