The five Samsung phones to put on a 2026 unlocked-phone shortlist are the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Ultra, Galaxy S26 FE, Galaxy Z Flip8 and Galaxy Z Fold8. That is a shortlist, not a proven ranking: Samsung U.S. listing evidence confirms current unlocked configurations and observed prices for the S26, while the available information does not establish comparable prices and specifications across all five. Before choosing, check the exact U.S. model’s price, storage and compatibility with your carrier.
What “unlocked” means—and what it does not guarantee
An unlocked phone is not restricted to a single carrier in the way a carrier-locked phone can be. But “unlocked” by itself does not prove that a specific model will work fully on your carrier. Before buying, ask the carrier to confirm compatibility for the exact model number, including its supported network bands and eSIM support if you plan to use eSIM. The available listings do not establish compatibility for every model and carrier.

How to read this five-phone shortlist
The list below covers three Galaxy S-series candidates and two foldable families. Only the S26 and S26 Ultra have specific unlocked U.S. configuration or price evidence here; the S26 FE and Z Flip8 are catalog-listed candidates, and the Z Fold8 evidence is a dated review rather than a Samsung specification page. The available facts are not enough to rank all five on camera quality, battery life, charging, dimensions, weight or software-support commitments.

| Phone | What is established | Price evidence | What to verify before buying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S26 | Samsung U.S. lists unlocked 256GB and 512GB configurations. | $899.99 for 256GB and $1,099.99 for 512GB were shown on the Samsung U.S. listing accessed in 2026; these are observed page prices, not guaranteed current prices. | Live price and stock, carrier compatibility, and whether its conventional form and features suit you. |
| Galaxy S26 Ultra | Samsung U.S. has an unlocked 512GB listing. Samsung’s March 2026 U.S. MSRP sheet also records an unlocked 256GB model. | $1,299.99 is the March 2026 Samsung U.S. MSRP for the unlocked 256GB model, not a current transaction price. A price for the 512GB listing is not stated. | Current price and available storage, carrier compatibility, and the features that matter most to you. |

| Galaxy Z Fold8 | A Tom’s Guide review published September 30, 2026, describes flagship-level performance and reports a silicon-carbon battery. These are that publication’s observations, not this publisher’s testing. | Current Samsung U.S. unlocked price and configuration are not stated here. | Samsung’s current U.S. unlocked listing, price, configuration and carrier compatibility. |
Which one should you investigate first?
Galaxy S26: the conventional-phone starting point
If you want a regular, non-folding Galaxy and do not need to begin with the Ultra listing, the S26 is the clearest starting point in this shortlist: Samsung U.S. lists unlocked 256GB and 512GB versions. Compare the live price difference with your storage needs before deciding. Samsung says the S26 does not include a charger, so check what you already own and the phone’s supported charging standards before buying a replacement.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

Galaxy S26 Ultra: compare the live offer, not just the MSRP
The Ultra is the premium S-series candidate here, with an unlocked 512GB Samsung U.S. listing and a dated 256GB MSRP reference. Since the MSRP is not a live offer and the listing’s 512GB price is not established here, check Samsung’s current checkout price and compare the exact storage configuration you intend to buy. The available evidence does not establish enough comparable camera, battery, size or weight details to declare it the best choice on those grounds.
Galaxy S26 FE: a candidate, not a confirmed budget winner
Samsung’s U.S. catalog includes the S26 FE family, but the information available here does not verify a current unlocked U.S. configuration, price or detailed specifications. Do not assume it is the best value based on the FE name alone: first confirm that Samsung lists the unlocked model you want, then compare its live price and specifications with the S26.

Galaxy Z Flip8: choose only after confirming the listing and form factor
The Z Flip8 is a foldable-family candidate in Samsung’s U.S. catalog. The catalog evidence does not establish its current unlocked configuration, price or detailed specifications. If you prefer a flip-style phone, verify those details on the current U.S. listing and check carrier compatibility for the exact model before purchase.

The Z Fold8 is the book-style foldable option in this shortlist. Tom’s Guide’s September 30, 2026 review described flagship-level performance and a silicon-carbon battery; those are the reviewer’s reported observations, not a substitute for Samsung’s current specifications or independent testing by this publisher. Confirm that Samsung currently offers the unlocked U.S. configuration you want and compare its price and specifications before treating it as a purchase recommendation.

Check these details before placing an order
- Confirm the exact unlocked U.S. model. Check the seller’s listing for the model and storage configuration, rather than relying on a family name or a listing for another region.
- Verify carrier compatibility. Give your carrier the exact model number and ask about network bands, activation and eSIM support for your intended plan.
- Compare live prices for matching storage. The S26 prices above were observed on a Samsung U.S. page and can change; the Ultra’s 256GB figure is a March 2026 MSRP, not a live offer. Check the checkout price, availability and any terms that affect the amount you pay.
- Compare the factors that matter to you. Check screen and form factor, cameras, battery and charging, dimensions and weight, and Samsung’s software-support commitment on current product information. The evidence summarized here does not provide a like-for-like comparison of those specifications.
- Check the box contents. Samsung says the S26 does not include a charger. For that model, confirm whether you need to buy a compatible one and check supported charging standards before selecting an accessory.
So, which unlocked Samsung phone is best?
There is not enough comparable evidence here to name a verified overall winner among all five. The Galaxy S26 is the most straightforward starting point if you want a conventional phone and want an unlocked configuration with an observed Samsung U.S. price; the Ultra is another option to compare using its current price, not just its dated MSRP. For the S26 FE, Z Flip8 and Z Fold8, first establish the current unlocked U.S. listing and specifications, then compare them against your budget, preferred form factor and carrier requirements.
