They do not all claim the same closeness to fact: some are attributed to specific books, Rocket Boys is a biographical drama, and Kathmandu Connection is described as loosely inspired by files and intelligence work. Here’s what each series covers—and what its real-event connection means.
At a glance: which real events do the five series cover?
| Series | Subject | Real-event connection described in the source |
|---|---|---|
| Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story | Harshad Mehta and a financial scandal | Based on Sucheta Dalal and Debashis Basu’s book The Scam: Who Won, Who Lost, Who Got Away. |
| Rocket Boys | Scientists Homi J. Bhabha and Vikram Sarabhai | A biographical drama; SonyLIV’s synopsis connects the story to Operation Smiling Buddha, India’s nuclear programme and the satellite programme. |
| Scam 2003: The Telgi Story | Abdul Karim Telgi’s counterfeit stamp-paper operation | Described as based on journalist Sanjay Singh’s Telgi Scam: Reporter’s Diary. |
| Avrodh: The Siege Within | The 2016 Uri surgical strikes | Its first season is associated with a chapter in India’s Most Fearless. |
| Kathmandu Connection | An investigation set after the 1993 Bombay blasts | Described as loosely inspired by law-enforcement files and intelligence operations. |
These descriptions identify the stated source or inspiration; they do not establish that every scene, line of dialogue or timeline is factual.
1. Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story
This Hindi-language financial drama follows stockbroker Harshad Mehta’s rise in India’s stock market and the banking-system gaps he exploits. The story also tracks people around his expanding financial empire, making the scandal more than a portrait of one ambitious broker.
The series is attributed to journalists Sucheta Dalal and Debashis Basu’s book The Scam: Who Won, Who Lost, Who Got Away. That book connection is a useful starting point for viewers interested in the reporting behind the drama, but the adaptation should not be treated as a documentary or as independent verification of every event.

2. Rocket Boys
Rocket Boys is a biographical drama about Homi J. Bhabha and Vikram Sarabhai and their roles in developing India’s science programmes after independence. SonyLIV’s official programme page describes a story involving India’s nuclear ambitions, the satellite programme and Operation Smiling Buddha. The page lists two seasons.
Choose it for a science-and-history focus rather than a financial or crime thriller. Its biographical framing indicates the people and historical context at its centre; it does not mean every dramatic exchange is a record of exactly what happened.

3. Scam 2003: The Telgi Story
This series turns Abdul Karim Telgi’s counterfeit stamp-paper operation into a scandal drama. The source article attributes it to journalist Sanjay Singh’s Telgi Scam: Reporter’s Diary, giving viewers a named journalistic source to explore alongside the show.
Its subject makes it a natural choice after Scam 1992 if you want another dramatized financial-crime story. The shared “Scam” framing does not mean the two series cover the same people, events or source material.

4. Avrodh: The Siege Within
Avrodh is framed around the 2016 Uri surgical strikes, with planning and coordination central to its story. The first season is attributed to the “We Don’t Really Know Fear” chapter in Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh’s book India’s Most Fearless.
That connection is a source-book attribution, not a guarantee that the series reproduces operational history scene by scene. The show is best approached as a military drama built around a real-world event and the decisions represented on screen.

5. Kathmandu Connection
Set after the 1993 Bombay blasts, this crime series follows an investigation that links separate incidents to a network leading to Kathmandu. Its real-event claim is more qualified than a direct “based on” attribution: it is described as loosely inspired by law-enforcement files and intelligence operations.
That wording matters. It signals inspiration from investigative and intelligence material without naming a single book as the show’s source or establishing that its plot is a factual reconstruction.

SonyLIV and Sony Pictures Networks identify the platform as a home for original series, and official pages list Scam 1992 and Scam 2003 among its originals.
