There is no evidence-backed single “best” heart-monitoring watch across brands in the available comparisons. A practical shortlist depends on your phone, the kind of monitoring you want, and whether the exact model and feature are supported where you live. The five options below are criteria-based categories—not a tested ranking—and each needs a current model and regional eligibility check before purchase.
What heart monitoring on a watch can—and cannot—tell you
Heart-rate tracking, an electrocardiogram (ECG), and an irregular-rhythm notification are different functions. A heart-rate sensor measures pulse. An ECG records electrical activity when you initiate a reading. A background rhythm feature looks for patterns that may warrant follow-up; it does not continuously diagnose a condition.

Apple says its ECG app generates a tracing similar to a single-lead electrocardiogram. Samsung describes its Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN) as analyzing pulse data in the background for episodes suggestive of atrial fibrillation (AFib), and it may prompt you to record an ECG. These features have different purposes, so a single “most accurate” ranking would be misleading.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →A watch alert is not a diagnosis, and no alert does not prove that everything is normal. Samsung says IHRN may not notify on every episode and that the absence of an alert does not indicate the absence of disease. Its ECG app is not a substitute for traditional diagnosis or treatment. If you have symptoms or a health concern, consult a clinician rather than relying on a watch reading.

1. Apple Watch Series 12: for iPhone users seeking Apple’s newest announced model
Apple announced Series 12 in September 2026, describing new optical and electrical heart sensors. Apple’s announcement calls its heart-rate system the most accurate in a wearable; that is Apple’s claim, not an independent comparison established here. The announcement also describes the Vitals app as intended for wellness, not medical use. Apple’s Series 12 announcement
Apple says its ECG app is available on Series 4 and later, excluding Apple Watch SE models, and on all Apple Watch Ultra models. Apple states that the app is intended for users age 22 or older. Check the current model’s availability and feature requirements before buying; the announcement itself is not an independent test.

2. Apple Watch Ultra: for Apple users who want an Ultra model with ECG eligibility
Apple says the ECG app is available on all Apple Watch Ultra models. This makes an Ultra model a possible fit if ECG access is a priority within Apple’s ecosystem, but the feature statement alone does not establish that it is the best choice for you or that it has superior medical performance. Confirm the app and model requirements in your market.
3. Samsung Galaxy Watch: for compatible Galaxy phone owners who want ECG and background rhythm notifications
Samsung Health Monitor supports on-demand ECG and IHRN on eligible combinations of watch, phone, app, software, and market. Samsung’s instructions list ECG compatibility beginning with certain Watch3 and Active2 models; IHRN requires Watch4 running Wear OS 4.0 or later. Samsung specifies a supported Galaxy Watch paired with a Galaxy smartphone for its ECG feature. Check Samsung’s current Health Monitor instructions for the exact model and region.
IHRN can look for episodes suggestive of AFib in pulse data and prompt the wearer to take an ECG. It does not notify on every episode, so it should not be treated as continuous clinical monitoring or as proof of heart health.

4. Samsung Galaxy Watch premium model: for buyers considering Samsung’s higher-end range
A premium Galaxy Watch is only a useful heart-monitoring choice if its exact model and software qualify for the features you want. Samsung’s documentation describes eligibility by model generation and operating system rather than establishing that every premium watch has the same functions. Verify the specific model in Samsung Health Monitor’s compatibility guidance, and confirm that your phone and country are supported.

5. Garmin ECG-compatible watch: for buyers who want ECG alongside Garmin features
Garmin says its ECG app can record heart rhythm and check for signs of AFib or normal sinus rhythm. It is limited to select watches, requires the latest Garmin Connect smartphone app and watch software, and is not available in every region. Garmin’s ECG page does not provide a sufficiently clear, complete current model list to identify a specific watch here; confirm that your exact model and region qualify before purchasing. How to choose among them
- Start with your phone. Samsung’s ECG instructions require a supported Galaxy Watch paired with a Galaxy smartphone. Apple Watch choices are for people in Apple’s ecosystem; check Apple’s current compatibility requirements for your iPhone and watch.
- Decide which feature matters. Routine pulse tracking, a user-initiated ECG, and passive irregular-rhythm notifications are not interchangeable. If you specifically want an ECG, verify the exact model and app eligibility rather than assuming a watch with heart-rate tracking also records one.
- Check age, software, and region. Apple states its ECG app is intended for users 22 or older. Samsung and Garmin both tie availability to supported models and software, and Garmin notes that ECG is unavailable in some regions.
- Account for the measurement routine. A feature that requires you to sit still and start a reading works differently from a background notification. Consider whether you will use an on-demand ECG and keep the companion app and watch software current.
- Compare battery life and charging using current model specifications. The available evidence does not establish comparable battery figures for these five options, so consult each exact model’s official specifications before deciding whether its charging routine suits you.
- Separate medical claims from fitness claims. Heart-monitoring functions can provide information to discuss with a clinician; they do not replace diagnosis, treatment, or traditional medical equipment.
Samsung watch blood-pressure readings have extra requirements
Samsung’s blood-pressure feature is a separate consideration, not a replacement for a conventional cuff. Samsung says it is available on Galaxy Watch4 and later, excluding Galaxy Fit, with Wear OS 4.0 or higher and Android 12 or higher. It requires a separately sold third-party upper-arm cuff for initial calibration and recalibration every 28 days. Samsung says not to change medication based on watch measurements and that the feature is not intended to diagnose or replace traditional methods. Samsung dated the phased U.S. rollout to March 31, 2026; availability elsewhere may differ. Samsung’s U.S. blood-pressure feature announcement

What independent watch reviews can establish
Tom’s Guide says its smartwatch reviews compare heart-rate tracking against an industry-standard monitor. Its methodology also says reviewers do not directly test safety functions because doing so is not practical. That distinction matters: a review’s heart-rate comparison does not independently validate an ECG or a rhythm-notification feature. Tom’s Guide smartwatch guide and methodology
TechRadar’s current Apple Watch guide says Series 12 and Ultra 4 had just been announced and still needed testing. That is a reason not to treat those models as independently tested winners based on that guide. TechRadar’s Apple Watch guide

Bottom line: match the feature to your phone and needs
For Apple users, begin by checking whether the Series or Ultra model you are considering supports the ECG app and whether its age and app requirements fit you. For Samsung users, verify the watch-phone-software combination and decide whether background IHRN or an on-demand ECG is the priority. For Garmin buyers, confirm ECG eligibility for the exact watch and region before purchase. None of these features rules out a health problem or replaces advice from a clinician.
