They are not GTA-style substitutes; they span racing, horror, retro shooting, action RPG, and franchise action. The “shadow” is a question of attention and time, not a measured claim that GTA VI will cut their sales.
Why these games are worth watching
The five titles were singled out for their proximity to GTA VI and the variety of experiences they offer. Rockstar’s official GTA VI page lists November 19, 2026. Three of the October schedules below have support from primary sources cited here; the dates for Boltgun 2 and Gears of War: E-Day come from the article that selected the games and are less firmly established.

No named statistic or study in the available sources measures whether GTA VI will reduce these games’ sales or visibility. Treat the calendar overlap as a plausible competition for attention, not a proven commercial effect.
The five games and their release context
1. Star Wars: Galactic Racer — racing
Star Wars: Galactic Racer takes racing into an unsanctioned Outer Rim circuit, with speed and precision at its core and a roguelike element described in the original selection article. StarWars.com says the game is due October 6, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Its official website’s tagline, reproduced in the announcement, is: “No force. No prophecy. Just skill, strategy, and the will to rise.”

2. Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival — horror
Hellraiser: Revival is described as a first-person survival-horror/action game featuring Aidan Lynch, the Cenobites, weapons, stealth, and the Lament Configuration. PlayStation Blog and Saber Interactive confirm an October 8, 2026 release on PS5. Those descriptions establish the premise and genre, not how the finished game plays in practice.
3. Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 — retro-styled shooter
Boltgun 2 is presented as a follow-up to the retro-styled shooter, returning to protagonist Malum Caedo and a run-and-gun approach influenced by classic 1990s shooters. The article that named it gives October 14, 2026 as its launch date. No primary publisher or developer release-date confirmation is established in the available sources, so treat that date as reported rather than independently confirmed.

5. Gears of War: E-Day — franchise action
Gears of War: E-Day is a prequel set before the original Gears of War, around the Locust attack known as Emergence Day. The article that selected it places the game in October 2026 and mentions campaign and multiplayer, but does not give a precise date. How to choose what to keep on your radar
These games do not compete on a shared genre or promise. Use the kind of play you want, rather than an unsupported ranking, to narrow the list:
- For racing in a Star Wars setting, follow Galactic Racer.
- For first-person horror, look at Hellraiser: Revival.
- For retro-inspired run-and-gun action, keep Boltgun 2 on the list while its reported schedule and platform details await primary confirmation.
- For Wuxia-inspired action RPG combat, track Phantom Blade Zero.
- For a prequel in the Gears of War universe, follow E-Day and wait for a precise release date and platform details.
The practical distinction is certainty as much as genre: three titles have primary-source support for their stated release schedules, while the other two remain reported October releases in the source that selected them. Check official game announcements as dates approach.
