“Flip phone” can mean either a foldable touchscreen smartphone or a basic keypad phone. The five picks below cover both, because they solve different problems: foldables run smartphone apps and fold for portability, while keypad models prioritize calls, messages and simpler use. There is no universal best choice; prices, naming and carrier support vary by country, so check the exact model available where you live.
Which kind of flip phone do you want?
A foldable smartphone such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 or Motorola Razr 2026 has a large touchscreen that folds in half, plus a smaller external display on many models. It is the right category if you need smartphone apps, navigation, a capable camera or a familiar app-based workflow.

A keypad flip phone such as the Nokia 2780 Flip is a basic phone, not a smaller foldable smartphone. App selection, navigation and other capabilities differ substantially. Choose one only after checking that it supports the calls, messages and essential services you need.
Five flip phones to consider
1. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8: the premium all-round foldable
Vodafone UK names the Galaxy Z Flip8 its all-round recommendation. Its guide lists a 6.9-inch main screen, 4.1-inch cover screen, Exynos 2600 processor, 12GB of RAM, 50MP main camera and 4,300mAh battery. Vodafone also lists an IP48 rating and seven years of updates. These are guide-reported specifications and judgments, not independent test results. The same guide describes the changes over the Flip7 as mostly refinements and flags the Flip8’s premium price, so it is most compelling if you specifically want the newest model and its support window.

Vodafone reports up to 31 hours of video playback, but that is a manufacturer claim under laboratory and typical-value conditions, not a promise of everyday battery life; actual results vary. See Vodafone UK’s 2026 flip-phone guide and its Galaxy Z Flip8 details.
2. Motorola Razr 2026: a current foldable with a useful outer screen
Motorola says the US Razr 2026 has a 6.9-inch display, 4,800mAh battery, 30W charging and IP48 protection. Its external-display feature description highlights replying to messages, using Google Maps, controlling music and launching apps without opening the phone. Those are manufacturer-listed specifications and feature claims, not an independent assessment of battery endurance or durability.
In its August 2026 review, TechRadar reported a starting price of $799.99 in the US and £799.99 in the UK, and availability in those two markets at review time; it did not report availability in Australia or India. Those are dated review figures, not live quotes. The reviewer liked the cover screen and battery, but noted modest performance and a visible delay when switching between screens. Check the local model name, price and stock before buying: Motorola calls this generation Razr 2026 in the US, while it is known as Razr 70 in some regions. Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 FE: a smaller-cover-screen alternative
Vodafone UK lists the Flip7 FE with a 6.7-inch main display, 3.4-inch cover display, Exynos 2400 processor, 4,000mAh battery, IP48 rating and 25W wired charging. Its guide presents the FE as lightweight and more affordable, but says its cover screen is smaller and busy users may need to recharge during the day. Consider it if the folded form and a lower-cost route into a Samsung foldable matter more than doing lots of tasks on the outside screen. These specifications and tradeoffs are Vodafone guide reporting, not independent test results: Vodafone UK’s 2026 guide.

4. Motorola Razr 60 Ultra / Razr 2025: a prior-generation deal candidate
The prior generation may be attractive when discounted. TechRadar reports that the Motorola Razr 2025 launched at $699 in the US and £799 in the UK, and says it remained compelling at a discount compared with newer models. Its review characterizes performance as midrange and the cameras as good, but not great. These are launch prices and review judgments, not current offers.
Vodafone UK’s value pick is the Razr 60 Ultra, listing a 7-inch main screen, 4-inch cover screen, Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, 4,700mAh battery and IP48 rating. Names differ by market: Razr 2025 and Razr 60 refer to this generation in some regions. Do not confuse it with the newer Razr 2026/Razr 70. Verify the exact generation and regional variant before comparing a sale price. Sources: TechRadar’s Razr 2025 review and Vodafone UK’s 2026 guide.

5. Nokia 2780 Flip: a basic keypad phone, not a smartphone
If you want a simpler phone rather than a foldable Android device, the Nokia 2780 Flip is a US-oriented keypad option. DumbPhoneGuide’s July 2026 guide calls it its best overall dumbphone and lists GPS, hotspot, hearing-aid support and a removable battery; it gives an approximate price of $90. That is a guide-reported estimate, not a current quote, and its carrier-support claims should not be treated as confirmation for your particular line or location.

Match the phone to what matters most
| Priority | What to compare | Evidence-based direction |
|---|---|---|
| Newest premium foldable | Update policy, processor, displays, build rating and price | Vodafone UK recommends the Galaxy Z Flip8 overall, while noting that the Flip7 shares many core features for less. |
| Useful outer screen at a lower foldable price | Local sale price, performance, camera and cover-screen tasks | Compare the Razr 2026 with discounted prior-generation Razrs; TechRadar liked the new model’s cover screen but noted modest performance. |
| Compact entry into Samsung’s foldable line | Folded size, cover-screen usability and battery needs | Vodafone UK positions the Flip7 FE as lightweight and affordable, with a smaller cover display and 4,000mAh battery as tradeoffs. |
| Fewer apps and keypad operation | Essential services, accessibility features and exact network compatibility | The Nokia 2780 Flip is a feature-phone candidate; confirm acceptance of the exact model with your carrier. |
| Durability | Hinge, screen protection, water/dust rating and repair terms | IP ratings and manufacturer claims are useful specifications, not a substitute for independent comparative durability testing; none is established by the sources cited here. |
What to check before you buy
- Country and model name: The same generation may have different names in different markets. Confirm the model number, storage, unlocked or carrier variant, and local stock.
- Carrier support: For a keypad phone especially, verify voice-over-LTE support and carrier approval for the exact device. Do this before purchase, not after a SIM fails to connect.
- Cover-screen use: Decide whether you only want notifications and quick controls or expect to run apps and reply from the outside display. A smaller cover screen may require opening the phone more often.
- Battery expectations: Compare capacity and charging specifications, but do not treat milliamp-hours, a charger rating or a manufacturer playback estimate as a guarantee of real-world endurance.
- Durability and repair: Check the regional warranty and repair terms alongside any IP rating. The ratings and claims cited above do not establish how these models compare in long-term hinge or screen reliability.
- Current value: Compare today’s local price for the current generation with the actual discounted price of the older one. Launch and review-time prices can be out of date.
Sources and regional scope
The foldable recommendations draw on Vodafone UK’s 2026 buyer guide, Motorola’s US product page and TechRadar reviews from 2026. The feature-phone pick draws on DumbPhoneGuide’s July 2026 guide, whose pricing and carrier discussion concerns the US. These sources support a shortlist, not a single global ranking: availability, names, prices, specifications and carrier acceptance can differ by market. No independent comparative durability test is established in the cited material.
