A Consumer Reports overall rating combines several dimensions, so a higher overall result does not establish that a vehicle is more reliable, more satisfying, or better for every buyer. In the reported comparison, the Impreza is stronger in predicted reliability in several pairings even where an alternative is ahead overall. The ratings also compare different body styles and powertrains, which can matter as much as the headline ranking.
The Buying Guide’s category recognition is a separate measure from a cross-category overall-score comparison: it names the Impreza Best Overall among small hatchbacks. The five 2026 models reported above the Impreza

It also says the Impreza leads in predicted reliability and owner satisfaction. 2026 Honda Civic Hybrid
The Civic Hybrid is reported to tie the Elantra Hybrid for the highest overall rating in the comparison. SlashGear says it surpasses the Impreza in road-test results, owner satisfaction, and fuel efficiency, while the Impreza has the stronger predicted-reliability result. This is a hybrid alternative, not an across-the-board winner or a like-for-like body-style comparison.
2026 Mazda3
The Mazda3 is reported to rank above the Impreza overall, behind the two hybrid leaders. 2026 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid
SlashGear reports that the Prius Plug-in Hybrid scores above the Impreza overall and in road-test and owner-satisfaction dimensions, while the Impreza is stronger in predicted reliability. How to weigh the ratings against your needs
- Decide how closely you need to match the Impreza. The Impreza is a small hatchback; several alternatives are hybrid sedans, and the Prius Plug-in Hybrid adds a plug-in charging component. Mazda3 comparisons should specify sedan or hatchback.
- Separate overall score from predicted reliability. The comparison repeatedly gives the Impreza an advantage in predicted reliability, even when another vehicle has the higher overall rating.
