For this guide, “budget” means under US$100 before tax, using the US market as the reference; prices and availability change, so check the current listing before buying. These five source-supported options cover different needs rather than offering five interchangeable microphones: the JBL Tune 760NC is the call-focused wireless pick, the CMF Headphone Pro suits everyday wireless listening, the Soundcore Life Q20 2024 is a value alternative, the SoundMagic E11C is a wired in-ear choice, and the Logitech G432 is designed for gaming chat. The recommendations reflect cited reviews and specifications, not independent testing by this publication.

Quick comparison: which one fits your use?

Model Best suited to Connection and fit Microphone and noise notes Other trade-offs
JBL Tune 760NC Wireless calls Bluetooth; over-ear RTINGS reports clear, understandable, somewhat thin voice reproduction that remains intelligible in moderate background noise. Loud subway noise can overwhelm it. ANC is more useful against mid- and high-frequency noise than low engine rumble. JBL claims up to 50 hours of playback with ANC off or 35 hours with it on.
CMF Headphone Pro Everyday wireless listening Bluetooth; over-ear RTINGS says its microphone does not reproduce voices very naturally; it is not the call-quality pick here. RTINGS reports 46 hours of battery life and notes ANC and sturdier materials at vulnerable hinge points. Clamping force may feel high.
Anker Soundcore Life Q20 2024 Value-focused wireless listening and calls Bluetooth; over-ear RTINGS reports more natural call voice than the CMF, with noise isolation that varies between chatter and low engine noise. RTINGS reports 49 hours of battery life. Build is flimsier than the CMF’s, and the included case is soft fabric.
SoundMagic E11C Wired listening without charging Wired 3.5 mm; in-ear What Hi-Fi? identifies a built-in microphone and controls; no comparable noise-rejection result is established here. Check that your device has a compatible 3.5 mm connection. What Hi-Fi? is UK-oriented, so its retailer prices are not a US price benchmark.
Logitech G432 Gaming and team chat Wired TRRS; over-ear gaming headset RTINGS says the boom mic keeps speech clear to teammates in moderately noisy conditions. Fit can affect audio delivery, and low bass is weaker. Verify compatibility with your platform and current price.

RTINGS’ battery figure for the CMF and Soundcore models is its reported review data, not a guarantee for every listening setup. JBL’s durations are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. RTINGS’ budget wireless guide and JBL’s Tune 760NC specifications provide the cited details.

Best for wireless calls: JBL Tune 760NC

The Tune 760NC is the strongest fit among these options if you want wireless over-ear headphones for calls. RTINGS describes its voice as clear and understandable, though somewhat thin, and says it remains intelligible with moderate background noise. That is not a promise of clean audio in every setting: loud transit noise can overwhelm the mic.

Noise cancellation and microphone noise handling are separate considerations. The JBL’s ANC is more effective against mid- and high-frequency noise than low engine rumble, while the mic’s intelligibility depends on the noise around you. JBL lists a built-in microphone, hands-free calling, ANC and Bluetooth 5. Its stated playback time is up to 50 hours with ANC off or 35 hours with ANC on; those are manufacturer claims, not RTINGS measurements.

Best for everyday wireless listening: CMF Headphone Pro

Choose the CMF Headphone Pro if your priority is general wireless use with ANC and long battery life, rather than voice-call quality. RTINGS reports 46 hours of battery life and notes sturdier materials at vulnerable hinge points. Its main fit caveat is relatively high clamping force, which may not suit everyone.

Do not choose it just because it has a microphone: RTINGS says its voice reproduction is not especially natural. For frequent calls, the JBL is the better-supported choice in this lineup.

Wireless value alternative: Soundcore Life Q20 2024

The Soundcore Life Q20 2024 is a reasonable value-focused alternative if you want over-ear Bluetooth headphones and a more natural call voice than the CMF. RTINGS reports 49 hours of battery life and a lighter, comfortable fit compared with the CMF. Its noise isolation behaves differently for chatter and low engine noise, so your surroundings still matter.

Best wired in-ear option: SoundMagic E11C

The SoundMagic E11C pairs a wired 3.5 mm connection with an in-line microphone and controls, according to What Hi-Fi? It is worth considering if you would rather not charge headphones. A wire does not automatically make it compatible with every phone or laptop, however: confirm that your device has a usable 3.5 mm jack or the appropriate adapter.

What Hi-Fi?’s guide is UK-oriented. Its retailer listings and prices should not be treated as a US price comparison. See What Hi-Fi?’s budget headphone guide for its description of the E11C.

Best for gaming and team chat: Logitech G432

The Logitech G432 is the dedicated gaming-headset option here. Its wired TRRS connection works with many consoles and controllers; other setups may require an adapter, so check your platform’s port and headset requirements first.

RTINGS flags inconsistent audio delivery affected by fit, as well as weaker low bass. If you want a cheaper wired gaming alternative, its guide also covers the Turtle Beach Recon 50X/50P, noting a boom mic and broad AUX compatibility alongside simpler build quality. Compare exact model and platform compatibility before purchasing. RTINGS’ under-$50 gaming headset guide has the cited recommendations.

How to choose a budget headphone mic that will work for you

Start with the place you make calls

Microphone presence is not microphone quality. A built-in mic can be fine for quiet rooms but struggle with nearby conversation, traffic or transit. If you take calls around moderate background noise, the JBL’s review results are the best fit among these five; even it can be overwhelmed by loud subway noise. A gaming boom mic is positioned for team chat, but its review findings do not establish that it will perform better for every kind of phone or video call.

Sony MDREX15AP In-Ear Earbud Headphones with Mic, Black (MDREX15AP/B)
  • Hybrid silicone earbuds provide long lasting comfort; small, medium and large earbuds are included to fine tune your fitment.Specific uses for product : Music
  • Product Note : If the size of the earbud tips does not match the size of your ear canals or the headset is not worn properly in your ears, you may not obtain the correct sound qualities or call performance. Change the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ears
  • High quality 9 mm dome type driver units coupled with high-energy neodymium magnets produce great sounding treble and midrange with powerful bass response.
  • The included Y-type cord with cord-slider prevents tangles on the go.
  • Accent your style with 2-tone design and colors.

Pick wired or wireless based on your routine

  • Choose Bluetooth for fewer cables and features such as ANC, while accepting that the headphones need charging.
  • Choose wired if you want to avoid battery dependence; verify the device connection before buying. The E11C uses 3.5 mm, while the G432 uses wired TRRS and may need an adapter for some ports.

Check fit and isolation, not just the spec list

Over-ear models cover the ears; in-ear headphones sit in the ear canal. Comfort and isolation are personal, so try a fit if possible, especially if you plan to wear the headphones for long sessions. ANC can reduce some outside noise but does not guarantee that a microphone will reject it. Open-back headphones, in particular, leak sound and do not isolate background noise, so they are usually a poor match when noise isolation is a priority. RTINGS’ budget headphone guide discusses fit and isolation considerations.

Confirm the exact model and current price

There is no universal budget ceiling, and retailer prices, inventory and regional availability can change. This guide uses under US$100 as an editorial ceiling for the US market, not as a verified live-price claim for each model. Check the exact version, connection type, return policy and current price at the seller before ordering; for the Soundcore, that means confirming the 2024 edition.
