The right Beyerdynamic depends on whether you need an integrated microphone, a closed design for a noisy room, or an open-back headphone for gaming and music. For a gaming-first open-back pick, consider the TYGR 300 R; for a built-in mic and closed construction, the MMX 300 PRO is the clear fit in this five-model group. The other three are studio headphones that can also serve for gaming, but they need a separate microphone for voice chat.
How to choose among these five models
Start with two practical questions: do you need a microphone built into the headphones, and do you want sound to stay contained? Open-back headphones let outside sound in and audio escape; closed-back designs are a better starting point when isolation or reduced leakage matters. Of these five, the TYGR 300 R, DT 900 PRO X, and DT 990 PRO are open-back. The DT 770 PRO X and MMX 300 PRO are closed-back.

Only the MMX 300 PRO has an integrated microphone. The TYGR 300 R, DT 900 PRO X, DT 770 PRO X, and DT 990 PRO are headphones rather than headsets, so plan on a separate mic if you use voice chat.
The five Beyerdynamic options
TYGR 300 R: gaming-focused open-back headphone
The TYGR 300 R is the most directly gaming-oriented headphone here: Beyerdynamic describes it as designed for gaming and highlights sound localization. It is open-back, so it does not isolate you from the room; the manufacturer says external noise is virtually unattenuated. That makes it a more sensible choice for a quiet space than for a shared or noisy one.
#1 Best Overall
- 250-ohm studio impedance: designed for audio interfaces and headphone amps - it needs one for full volume; not ideal straight from a phone.
- The mixing reference: the open-back sound studios have trusted for decades, for honest mixes that translate everywhere.
- Open-back design: wide, natural stereo image so you hear placement and depth while mixing and mastering.
- Velour ear pads: soft, replaceable grey velour and a spring-steel headband stay comfortable through long sessions.
- In the box: DT 990 Pro with fixed 3m coiled cable and 1/4-inch adapter. Made in Germany. Pair it with a headphone amp or interface.
Beyerdynamic’s 2025 specification sheet lists 32 ohms and 290 g without cable, along with a 3.5 mm plug and 6.35 mm adapter. The headphone is passive, and the manufacturer notes that volume from controller jacks can vary by platform because output depends on the built-in sound card. Impedance alone therefore cannot promise a particular listening volume. See the TYGR 300 R specifications.
DT 900 PRO X: open-back studio headphone for mixed use
The DT 900 PRO X is an open-back wired studio headphone that Beyerdynamic describes in terms of spatial, transparent sound. Its manufacturer-listed specifications include 48-ohm impedance, a detachable cable, and a stated frequency response of 5–40,000 Hz. The detachable cable uses a mini-XLR connection. It is a candidate for music and gaming if open construction suits your room and you are willing to add a separate mic for chat. These specifications describe the product; they are not independent comparative test results. See the DT 900 PRO X product details.
Rank #2
- Works wired with PC, PlayStation, Switch, and any device with a 3.5mm headphone jack.
- Stay locked in: closed-back isolation blocks room noise so you hear nothing but the game.
- STELLAR.45 driver: esports-grade 45mm transducer tuned for detail at low and high volumes.
- Condenser microphone: broadcast-quality capsule so your team hears you clean, not clipped.
- In the box: MMX 300 Pro and detachable cable. Handmade in Germany - plug into any 3.5mm jack, no software needed.
DT 770 PRO X: closed-back studio headphone
The DT 770 PRO X is the closed-back choice among the studio headphones in this guide. Beyerdynamic lists it at 48 ohms, with a detachable, lockable mini-XLR cable and a stated 5–40,000 Hz frequency response. The X version differs from the original DT 770 PRO in cable design and impedance: the X has a detachable cable and 48-ohm implementation, while the original is described with a fixed cable and 32-, 80-, or 250-ohm versions. Check the exact model when comparing listings or matching it to a source. It has no integrated microphone. See the DT 770 PRO X product details.

The MMX 300 PRO is the option to consider if you want a closed design and an integrated microphone without adding a separate mic. Its product sheet lists a detachable cable, separate PC plugs, and an adapter for combination-jack devices. Replaceable ear and headband pads are also documented. Beyerdynamic calls it “the ideal headset for all gaming and multimedia applications”; that is the manufacturer’s positioning, not an independent comparison. See the MMX 300 PRO product sheet.
Rank #3
- 48-ohm drive: full volume from any source - laptop, interface, phone, or console - no headphone amp needed.
- Mix with confidence: open-back reference sound reveals the placement, depth, and detail your mix depends on.
- STELLAR.45 driver: flagship transducer for precise, high-resolution monitoring at any listening level.
- Open-back soundstage: wide, natural imaging for mixing, editing, and critical listening.
- In the box: DT 990 Pro X, detachable 3m mini-XLR cable, and 1/4-inch adapter. Made in Germany - plug straight into any source.
DT 990 PRO: open-back studio alternative
The DT 990 PRO is a recognizable open-back studio headphone that Beyerdynamic also lists in its gaming category and says its PRO headphones are used for gaming. It does not have an integrated microphone. Confirm the impedance variant before buying: the DT 990 PRO is not a single-impedance model, and the source device’s requirements depend on the version selected. See Beyerdynamic’s DT 990 PRO information.

Match the design and connection to your setup
Choose open-back for a quiet room, not for isolation
Open-back construction is the shared tradeoff of the TYGR 300 R, DT 900 PRO X, and DT 990 PRO. The TYGR documentation explicitly says external noise is virtually unattenuated, so nearby conversation or other room sounds will remain audible. Sound can also escape the headphones. If your environment is noisy or you need to limit leakage, look first at the closed-back DT 770 PRO X or MMX 300 PRO.
Rank #4
- 48-ohm drive: plugs straight into any source - laptop, interface, phone, or console - no headphone amp needed.
- Track and mix with confidence: closed-back isolation keeps headphone bleed out of your mic while you record.
- STELLAR.45 driver: beyerdynamic's flagship transducer for precise, high-resolution studio sound at any level.
- Detachable mini-XLR cable: swap or replace cables in seconds; replaceable velour ear pads for years of daily use.
- In the box: DT 770 Pro X, detachable 3m cable, and bag. Handmade in Germany - plug straight into any source and record.
Check the microphone and jack before buying
If voice chat is essential and you do not want a separate microphone, the MMX 300 PRO is the only integrated-mic option in this shortlist. Its supplied adapter supports devices with a combination jack; check the ports on your computer, controller, or other source before connecting. The other four models require a separate mic for voice chat.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDo not treat impedance as a loudness guarantee
The TYGR 300 R is listed at 32 ohms, while the DT 900 PRO X and DT 770 PRO X are listed at 48 ohms. These nominal figures can help identify the model, but they do not by themselves establish how loud a headphone will get from a particular controller, computer, or phone. For the TYGR, Beyerdynamic specifically warns that controller-jack output varies by platform. For the DT 990 PRO, verify the selected impedance version and whether your source can drive it to a comfortable level.
