Apple’s AirPods 5 start at $129 for the standard charging case, so a cheaper alternative needs to cost less than that—not merely less than the $149 wireless-charging version. Of these five candidates, Soundcore lists the Liberty 4 NC at $99.99 in the US; Tom’s Guide lists the EarFun Air Pro 4+ at $99 and CMF Buds 2 Pro at $69. Those review prices need a live check. The cited Sony pricing is from UK deal listings, so neither Sony model is confirmed below $129 for US buyers. One important trade-off applies across the list: these alternatives use in-ear tips, unlike AirPods 5’s open-ear design.
What counts as cheaper than AirPods 5?
Apple lists AirPods 5 at $129 with a standard USB-C charging case and $149 with a wireless charging case. Both versions include active noise cancellation (ANC). Apple says the new model reduces up to 50 percent more external noise than AirPods 4 with ANC; that is Apple’s own comparison, not an independent head-to-head measurement. Apple announced the AirPods 5 on September 9, 2026.

This article uses the $129 standard-case model as the price benchmark. Retail discounts can change whether an alternative is cheaper on a given day, so check the exact model and current US offer before buying. The two Sony options below are included for their distinct features, but the cited pricing is UK-only and does not establish that either is cheaper than $129 in the US.
Five alternatives, matched to different priorities
1. Soundcore Liberty 4 NC: ANC and multipoint for less
Soundcore’s US product page lists the Liberty 4 NC at $99.99. It specifies adaptive ANC, Bluetooth multipoint, IPX4 water resistance, and up to 10 hours of playback per charge or 50 hours with the case. Those battery figures are manufacturer specifications. Soundcore also advertises up to 98.5% noise reduction; treat that as the company’s claim, not a directly comparable result against AirPods 5. LDAC support is limited to Android, according to Soundcore. This is the clearest documented US-price pick for people who want ANC and the ability to connect to multiple devices. See Soundcore’s Liberty 4 NC specifications.

3. CMF Buds 2 Pro: the lower-priced option

4. Sony WF-C510: choose it only if ANC is optional
The WF-C510 is a budget-oriented in-ear pair with an 11-hour earbud battery life, as reported by What Hi-Fi?. It has no ANC, so it is not a like-for-like substitute for AirPods 5 in noisy surroundings. The cited deal panel showed UK prices, not US pricing; US buyers should confirm that a current offer falls below $129 before considering it a cheaper pick. What Hi-Fi?’s AirPods alternatives guide covers the model and its reported battery life.

Check fit before prioritizing features
AirPods 5 have an open-ear shape; the five alternatives here use in-ear designs with tips. Tips can provide a physical seal that helps isolate outside sound, but that feel is not comfortable for everyone. If you specifically want non-in-ear earbuds, these models do not preserve the fit you are trying to keep. A reader asking for non-in-ear alternatives also described wanting an Android-compatible option under $100; that need makes fit and phone compatibility separate checks, not assumptions based on price. A reader discussion illustrates this open-ear and Android use case.
How to narrow the shortlist
- Start with fit. If you want open-ear comfort, do not assume an in-ear ANC pair is an equivalent replacement. Try the fit if possible and confirm the seller’s return policy.
- Set the ANC requirement. The Liberty 4 NC, EarFun Air Pro 4+, CMF Buds 2 Pro, and Sony WF-C710N are the ANC candidates in this list. The Sony WF-C510 has no ANC.
- Check the exact current US price. Use $129 as the comparison point for the standard-case AirPods 5. Confirm model name, price, and availability at checkout; the Sony evidence here is UK pricing, while the EarFun and CMF prices are review listings.
- Match features to your phone and devices. Soundcore specifies multipoint, and its LDAC support is Android-only. The WF-C710N supports multipoint but not aptX or LDAC, according to What Hi-Fi?. Do not assume that a feature name guarantees the same experience across phones or apps.
- Compare battery claims on equal terms. Playback depends on conditions and ANC use. In this shortlist, the reported figures vary by ANC state and whether the charging case is included, so compare like with like rather than treating one number as a universal ranking.
What the comparisons can—and cannot—establish
The available reviews and product listings identify useful candidates, but they do not establish a controlled, direct test of all five against AirPods 5. Battery figures come from different sources and conditions, and noise-reduction percentages from different manufacturers are not directly comparable. Treat the list as a practical shortlist: one manufacturer-listed US price, two review-listed lower prices to verify, and two Sony options whose US price qualification remains unresolved by the cited UK listings.
