What accessories can you add to a lanyard?
These four options serve different purposes. Some products combine more than one, but a bundled design does not make its specifications universal.

1. Retractable badge reel
A retractable reel lets you extend an ID or access card to a reader or another person, then retract it without unclipping it from the lanyard. It is useful when you scan or show a badge repeatedly.
For a concrete example, KEY-BAK says its SIDEKICK combines a retractable tether, key ring, and breakaway lanyard. 2. Phone loop or tether
A phone loop or strap can keep a phone attached to a lanyard, which may be useful when you want it close at hand. Attachment styles vary: suppliers list options such as cell-phone loops and phone straps. Just Lanyards attachment options TQ Lanyards accessories
Before using one, confirm that the tether attaches securely to your particular phone case and follow the product’s load guidance. The availability of phone attachments does not establish that they fit every case.

3. Key ring attachment
A key ring gives you a simple place to attach frequently used keys alongside a badge. Djois describes a cord lanyard with a swivel hook and key ring, and notes that a reel can also attach to the ring. Djois lanyard description
Check what the lanyard and its connectors are designed to carry before adding keys or another attachment. A ring provides a connection point; it does not establish a safe carrying capacity for the entire setup.

4. Breakaway or detachable connector
A breakaway connector is designed to come apart when pulled or snagged. Just Lanyards describes breakaways as a safety option for potentially hazardous environments. Just Lanyards attachment options
Breakaway and detachable designs may be relevant where a lanyard could catch on equipment or objects. Treat this as a product feature, not a guarantee against injury or a replacement for local workplace or school rules. Confirm which type of connector is fitted and whether it suits the wearing context.

Start with the item you need to carry and how you use it. Then check connection fit, product-specific capacity or reach, and whether the attachment should detach in your setting.
