Four current USB flash drive families pair a small body with capacities of 256GB, 512GB, or even 1TB: SanDisk Ultra Fit, Samsung FIT Plus, Kingston DataTraveler Micro, and SanDisk Extreme Fit USB-C. This list covers four rather than five because we could not find a fifth model whose manufacturer specifications were comparable with the others, so we did not pad the list.
What counts as “small”
“Small” on a flash drive can mean three different things, and the drives below win on different ones. Before comparing them, measure the following:

- Length and width: the footprint of the body on the port face.
- Thickness: how far the drive sticks out of the port, which matters most in laptops with tightly spaced ports.
- Clearance: the space the drive needs beside it when left plugged in. Published body dimensions do not tell you whether a neighbouring cable, port cover, or case will fit, so check that separately.
Among the two drives whose manufacturers publish full body dimensions, the Samsung FIT Plus is shorter, while the SanDisk Ultra Fit is noticeably narrower and thinner. No single drive is the smallest on every axis, so this guide does not name one overall winner.

SanDisk Ultra Fit USB 3.2 Gen 1 (USB-A)
The Ultra Fit is the slimmest of the four by the published numbers, at 5.00 mm thick and 14.30 mm wide. SanDisk’s datasheet lists capacities from 16GB to 512GB. The datasheet describes it as “a compact, plug-and-stay storage solution that gives you more space to store your media and files.” That is SanDisk’s own marketing language, not an independent assessment. The datasheet we checked carries no clear publication date, so confirm the current version on SanDisk’s site before buying.

Samsung FIT Plus (USB-A)
The FIT Plus is the shortest of the four published bodies, at 23.6 mm long, though it is thicker and wider than the Ultra Fit at 18.8 mm wide and 7.3 mm thick. Samsung Semiconductor EMEA’s product page lists capacities from 64GB to 512GB. Samsung’s page also includes a note on nominal versus usable capacity, which you should read on the listing before comparing storage figures across brands.
Kingston DataTraveler Micro (USB-A)
Kingston positions the DataTraveler Micro as a small-form-factor drive with capacity up to 256GB. Its product page states read speeds of up to 200MB/s. Kingston’s page, as checked in 2026, did not give body dimensions in the text we reviewed, so you cannot compare its footprint directly with the other three without measuring a unit or checking a spec sheet.

SanDisk Extreme Fit USB-C (USB-C)
This is the only drive here with a USB-C connector. SanDisk’s product page calls it “our smallest, high-capacity USB-C™ flash drive,” and the claim is scoped to USB-C drives; it does not mean the Extreme Fit is the smallest USB drive of any connector type. The product range runs up to 1TB, with 256GB and 512GB variants shown on the page. Body dimensions and a speed figure were not stated in the page text we reviewed, so treat its size and speed as unverified until you check the listing.

Capacity and connector are separate decisions
The largest capacity in this group is the 1TB top of the Extreme Fit USB-C range, but that figure is a range maximum, not a guarantee for every colour or retailer listing. Several of the drives also reach 512GB, so you can get a large-capacity drive without moving to the Extreme Fit.
The connector decision matters more than it looks. The three USB-A drives will plug into most laptops and desktops directly. A USB-C-only device, such as a recent phone or tablet, needs the USB-C Extreme Fit or a USB-A-to-USB-C adapter. An adapter adds length and another connection point, which undoes some of the size advantage you were after.

What the speed numbers do and do not tell you
All four speed figures are maximum claims. The Ultra Fit and FIT Plus reach their top speeds only at certain capacities, and their slower figures apply to the smaller models. SanDisk states that its performance figures come from internal testing and can vary with the host device, usage conditions, and capacity. Speed figures therefore show the upper limit a drive can reach, not how long a large file copy will take on your machine.

How to choose
- Measure your ports. Note the spacing of the USB ports you will use. If a drive will stay plugged in, a thick body on the port next to a cable can be the real problem, so check clearance before anything else.
- Match the connector. If your device has only USB-C ports, choose the Extreme Fit USB-C or plan for an adapter.
- Pick a capacity you will use. Among the three USB-A drives, the Ultra Fit and FIT Plus reach 512GB, while the DataTraveler Micro stops at 256GB.
- Check the exact variant on the listing. Confirm the capacity, connector, and rated speed for the specific model you are buying, since ranges can include different interfaces or speeds by variant.
- Choose by the dimension that matters to you. If you need the shortest body, the FIT Plus is the published choice. If you need the slimmest profile, the Ultra Fit is the published choice.
- Thin profile and the widest published capacity range among USB-A options: SanDisk Ultra Fit.
- Shortest published body with capacities up to 512GB: Samsung FIT Plus.
- USB-A drive with a 256GB ceiling and up to 200MB/s rated read: Kingston DataTraveler Micro.
- USB-C-only devices and capacities up to 1TB: SanDisk Extreme Fit USB-C.
