Four all-terrain tires finished ahead of the Pirelli Scorpion A/T+ in ADAC’s 2025 comparison: the Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015, Falken Wildpeak A/T AT3WA, General Grabber AT3 and Matador MP72 Izzarda AT2. That is the defensible answer to which tires beat the Pirelli—but only in a test of eight models in size 225/65 R17, not a universal ranking across every size, vehicle or terrain.
Which tires beat the Pirelli Scorpion A/T+?
ADAC’s comparison, published 6 May 2025, put the Pirelli fifth among eight all-terrain tires tested in 225/65 R17. These four models placed above it in that field:

The ranking is based on ADAC’s weighted assessment, not a claim that each tire beats the Pirelli in every category. The comparison and its scope are described in ADAC’s 2025 all-terrain tire test.

ADAC gave the Scorpion A/T+ an overall grade of 3.8. In ADAC’s grading system, lower grades are better. Its category grades were 3.1 for dry roads, 3.5 for wet roads, 3.8 for snow and 1.9 for gravel. Gravel was its relative strength: it ranked second in that category and was the lightest tire in the test. ADAC nevertheless described it as challenging to control on wet and snow-covered roads. The overall grade reflects ADAC’s weighting: dry performance accounts for 35%, wet for 40%, snow for 20% and gravel for 5%. A driver who spends most of their time on paved roads may find that weighting relevant; someone prioritizing gravel should look closely at the category results rather than treating the overall order as an off-road ranking.
How the Falken compares on road and snow
The Falken Wildpeak A/T AT3WA earned an overall 3.1 and a wet-road grade of 3.0. ADAC called it the most balanced tire in the group and the best in wet conditions, while identifying gravel traction as a weakness. In the same test, wet braking from 80–0 km/h measured 39.7 m for the Falken and 45.1 m for the Pirelli. Snow braking from 30–0 km/h was 11.4 m for the Falken and 11.8 m for the Pirelli. These are measurements from ADAC’s 2025 test in 225/65 R17, not predictions for other sizes, vehicles or conditions. The complete Falken Wildpeak A/T AT3WA result includes the category assessments.

Why a test winner may not be the right tire for your vehicle
All-terrain tires trade road behavior against loose-surface capability. ADAC’s 2025 release summarizes the tested group with this caution: “In terms of driving safety, all-terrain (AT) tires are not a good choice on paved surfaces.” That is ADAC’s assessment of the tested group; it is not a statement that every AT tire performs identically or that a specific tire is unsuitable for every driver. The ADAC release explains its conclusions.

- Frequent wet-road driving: Give wet braking and handling particular attention; the Falken’s wet result is the clearest strength reported in this comparison.
- Snow use: Compare snow braking, traction and handling, rather than relying on tread appearance or a single overall grade.
- Gravel and off-road priorities: The Pirelli’s strong gravel result means its fifth-place overall finish does not establish that each higher-ranked tire is better for gravel.
- Everyday road use: Consider dry behavior, wet safety and refinement alongside off-road traction. ADAC’s overall weighting gives paved-road categories most of the score.
Check fitment before buying
The ADAC ranking applies to the tested 225/65 R17 size. It does not establish that the listed models are available in every vehicle’s required size or that their performance is identical across sizes. Match the replacement tire to your vehicle’s approved tire size, load index and speed rating, and verify the exact model and specification available in your market.
Pirelli lists the Scorpion All Terrain Plus as an all-season all-terrain tire for pickups and SUVs, with US-market sizes from 16 to 20 inches; availability and specifications vary by size and market. Pirelli also says the tire carries the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol and is severe-snow-service rated. These are manufacturer product details, not a substitute for checking the specification of the particular tire being considered. See Pirelli’s US Scorpion All Terrain Plus product page.
Why this is a four-tire list, not twelve
The available direct comparison tested eight models and supports four names ahead of the Pirelli. Adding eight more tires as proven outperformers would overstate the evidence. Tyre Reviews’ synthesis of two independent tests puts the Pirelli’s average position at fifth, with a best finish of fourth and a worst of sixth; it identifies dry-road handling as a relative strength and snow braking, traction and handling as recurring weaknesses. That is secondary context, not a broader head-to-head result for twelve alternatives. See Tyre Reviews’ Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus test-results synthesis.
