What the September moves show
CEO succession mixed continuity with outside expertise
The CEO changes combine internal knowledge and external operating experience. Internal promotions at Apple and N-iX preserve institutional context, while Zayo Group and Omnissa brought in leaders with large-scale telecommunications, security and cloud backgrounds. The solution-provider appointments at Synergy IT Solutions, Cyber Advisors and Omega Systems show the same market valuing executives who can combine delivery operations with cybersecurity, cloud services and transaction experience.
Interim appointments signal transition periods
Two interim CEO appointments stand out because they use different continuity models. MongoDB brought back a former chief executive, while SolarWinds elevated its product leader. Interim titles normally indicate that a longer-term succession decision remains open; customers, employees and investors should therefore watch for permanent appointments, strategic updates and changes to the executive bench.

Technology leadership is broader than the CIO title
The appointments cover people operations, finance, sales, security, digital transformation, growth and market leadership alongside traditional CEO, CIO and CTO responsibilities. Several mandates explicitly connect technology leadership to measurable business outcomes: P&L ownership, transformation, AI capabilities, recurring-revenue growth, workforce management and go-to-market execution.
Partners and ecosystems received unusual attention
Channel and alliances roles appeared across security, infrastructure and services companies. Their mandates include partner-sourced revenue, distributor relationships, technology alliances, cloud ecosystems and partner programs. That concentration reflects how providers increasingly rely on indirect routes to market and coordinated technology ecosystems rather than direct sales alone.

How to use this list
- Separate permanent and interim authority. An interim CEO may have immediate operating authority but a different mandate from a permanent successor.
- Check whether the move is internal or external. Internal promotions can preserve institutional knowledge; external hires may bring a new operating model, customer base or integration experience.
- Read the remit, not just the title. P&L, AI, security, partner ecosystems, workforce and transformation language indicates what the appointing company expects to change.
- Track the predecessor and reporting context. Board roles, adviser transitions and combined-business appointments can reveal whether a move is succession, consolidation or expansion.
Bottom line
September 2026’s leadership activity was notable for its breadth: 30 moves covered nearly every layer of the IT executive stack, while separate CIO reports added another set of sector-specific appointments. The strongest common thread was a push to connect technology leadership with growth, transformation, security and partner-led execution.
