Best anime streaming services
1. Crunchyroll
Crunchyroll is the best starting point for most anime viewers. Its main strengths are current-season simulcasts, a large archive, subtitles, English dubs, movies, manga-related features, and anime news and extras. It is usually the first service to check when a new Japanese series begins airing.
The standard Premium trial is normally seven days, requires a valid payment method, and renews automatically unless canceled. A free account or the separate Crunchyroll Channel should not be confused with full on-demand Premium access.

- 4K Ultra HD Resolution: Enjoy your TV in stunning resolution Ultra HD ers four times the resolution of Full HD for greater clarity and detail
- Android TV: With the Android TV operating system you will have access to the best content, download the infinity of applications available through the Google Play Store!
- Voice remote control: Just press the Google Assistant button and ask it to find, play and control content
- Chromecast Built-in: Easily cast movies, shows, and photos from your Android or iOS device to your Android TV
- Easy Setup: Access your Google account and configure the device, language and Wi-Fi network
2. HIDIVE
HIDIVE works best as a companion to Crunchyroll. Its catalog often includes niche shows, selected simulcasts, mature titles, uncensored versions, and some English dubs that are unavailable on larger services. It can be especially useful when a particular seasonal show is licensed exclusively by HIDIVE.
Check HIDIVE’s current restricted-region list before paying. Its catalog and overall service availability change by country.
3. Netflix
Netflix is a strong choice if you want anime alongside live-action movies and television. It is particularly useful for Netflix originals, exclusive releases, anime films, and high-profile series. Netflix frequently releases its own anime in batches rather than using the weekly schedule common on specialist services.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The main drawback is licensing inconsistency: a show available on Netflix in one country may be absent in another, and some titles arrive long after their Japanese broadcast.
4. Hulu
Hulu is one of the better United States-focused options for mainstream anime, older shōnen series, and viewers who already subscribe for general television. Its Anime hub includes titles such as Bleach, Naruto Shippuden, Dragon Ball, Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, and One Piece.
Hulu may list subtitled and dubbed versions as separate videos instead of offering both audio tracks in one player. Check the episode listing rather than assuming the audio can be changed during playback.
5. Disney+
Disney+ is not an anime-first service, but it is worth checking for exclusive or region-specific anime distributed through Disney’s international licensing agreements. Its value is higher for people who already want Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, or National Geographic content.
In the United States, eligible Disney bundles may also provide access to Hulu programming inside the Disney+ application. The exact anime selection remains country-specific.
6. Prime Video
Prime Video combines included anime with rentals, purchases, and optional add-on channels. In some markets, viewers can subscribe to an anime channel such as Crunchyroll through Prime Video instead of using a separate application.
Read the label on each title carefully: “included with Prime,” “rent,” “buy,” and “subscribe” represent different access models. Prime Video’s anime catalog varies substantially by country.
7. Max
Max is a secondary anime service with selected films and series licensed through Warner Bros. Discovery. It can be useful for particular titles, but its changing catalog and smaller anime selection mean it is not a replacement for Crunchyroll or HIDIVE.

13. Anime-Planet Watch Online
Anime-Planet’s Watch Online section provides a limited selection of legal episodes through partnerships with anime distributors. Anime-Planet is primarily a database, recommendation, and tracking site, so its viewing library is smaller than a dedicated streaming platform.
14. Official Pokémon YouTube
The official Pokémon YouTube channel periodically publishes full episodes, movies, and specials at no charge. Uploads are controlled by regional rights and may be available only for a limited time. Look for the verified channel rather than similarly named reupload accounts.

How to find a specific anime legally
- Search for the show on JustWatch with your country selected.
- Filter by subscription, free streaming, rental, purchase, language, resolution, or age rating.
- Open the result on the streaming service itself. Availability pages can lag behind licensing changes.
- Check whether the listing is subtitled, dubbed, censored, or split into separate versions.
- Confirm whether the title is included in your plan or requires a rental, purchase, or add-on channel.
Streaming rights expire and move frequently. A recommendation that was correct several months ago may no longer be accurate, particularly for seasonal anime and films.
What happened to Funimation?
Funimation is no longer an active anime streaming site. Its website and app officially shut down on April 2, 2024. Many current articles still list Funimation because they have not been updated. Viewers looking for its former catalog should check Crunchyroll and current country-specific availability guides instead.
How to avoid unsafe anime streaming sites
Do not assume that a site is legal because it has a professional-looking player or a large catalog. Unofficial services often rebrand, change domains, mirror unauthorized episode libraries, or use aggressive pop-ups and misleading download buttons. Besides copyright concerns, these sites can expose users to malicious redirects, fake browser notifications, unwanted extensions, and phishing pages.
For a dependable legal option, use a recognized subscription service, an ad-supported platform with identifiable ownership, an official distributor website, or a verified rights-holder channel on YouTube.
FAQ
What is the best anime site overall?
Crunchyroll is the best all-purpose choice for most viewers because it combines seasonal simulcasts, a large back catalog, subtitles, dubs, movies, and anime-related extras. Its catalog still varies by country, so check individual titles before subscribing.
Where can I watch anime for free legally?
Tubi, Pluto TV, The Roku Channel, the Crunchyroll Channel, Anime-Planet’s Watch Online section, and selected official YouTube channels offer legal free viewing in supported regions. Most use advertising, scheduled programming, limited catalogs, or geo-blocking.
Is Funimation still available?
No. The Funimation website and app shut down on April 2, 2024. Current anime availability should be checked on Crunchyroll or with a country-specific guide such as JustWatch.
Why can’t I watch a show listed on an anime service?
Anime licenses are regional and title-specific. A service may operate in your country while lacking rights to a particular show, or a listing may have expired. Check your country on JustWatch, then confirm the title directly in the service’s app or website.

The Bottom Line
Start with Crunchyroll for the broadest anime-focused experience. Add HIDIVE when it has a specific exclusive or uncensored title you want. Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, Disney+, Max, and Peacock make sense when you already use them for other entertainment. For free viewing, begin with Tubi, Pluto TV, the Crunchyroll Channel, and verified official YouTube channels.
Before paying for any service, search for the exact anime in your country and verify whether it is included, dubbed, subtitled, or available only as a rental or add-on channel.
