Provincial Player, a Russian adventure game built around billiards, betting and point-and-click exploration, launched for Windows on Steam on October 15, 2026. Developed by Gershwin Research Group and published by WinDArities, this release rebuilds the late-1990s title for modern PCs while retaining its unusual mix of pool-hall simulation, dialogue-driven quests and absurd provincial-town satire.
What Provincial Player is
Provincial Player is neither a conventional billiards game nor a standard graphic adventure. Its central loop combines exploration in the town of Kozyulsk, conversations that open new opportunities, wagers and money management, and repeated matches across several cue-sports disciplines.

Steam lists American pool, snooker and carom as the playable table games. Dice and slot machines provide additional diversions, while clubs act as story locations with their own opponents, rules and characters. The result is a hybrid in which success depends on more than simply winning a match: what Art Billy says, whom he meets and how he handles his money can determine which paths become available.
The story: turn $50 into $500
You play Art Billy, a professional billiards player described on Steam as having “a sharp smirk and a knack for getting into trouble.” He begins with $50 and needs to build that bankroll to $500 to enter the final tournament at the Golden Goat club.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Matches and bets are the obvious ways to raise money, but conversations and decisions are equally important. Dialogue can reveal new opponents, locations or ways to earn cash, making Kozyulsk function as a quest map as much as a sports venue.
A deliberately strange late-1990s setting
The game presents Kozyulsk as a rough, bizarre Russian provincial town. A 2026 release report from iXBT Games describes a cast and setting that include punks, deputies, mutants, prostitutes and vampire tournaments. Those details signal the intended tone: darkly comic, surreal and intentionally far removed from a polished modern sports simulation.

Steam’s current re-release description says the original game was released in 1999. A separate Steam-page variant has shown 1997, so the original release year remains unresolved in publicly visible store copy. For the version now sold, 1999 is the year used by the active Steam description.
This is presented as a restoration of the original game, not a new sequel or a redesigned remake. The developers say they recovered source code, reverse-engineered the title and rebuilt it for current systems.
What the restoration adds
The re-release work addresses the problems that commonly make 1990s PC games difficult to run today:

System requirements
Steam lists relatively modest requirements by current PC standards, although the minimum graphics card is a discrete GeForce GTX 1050 Ti rather than integrated graphics.
| Tier | Operating system | Processor | Memory | Graphics | DirectX | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | Windows 10 | Intel Core i3 | 2 GB RAM | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti | 9.0c | 1 GB available |
| Recommended | Windows 10 or Windows 11 | Intel Core i5 or AMD equivalent | 4 GB RAM | GTX 1060 | Not listed separately | 2 GB available |
Steam’s published specifications do not identify exact processor model numbers, so the Core i3 and Core i5 labels should be read as broad hardware tiers rather than a guarantee for every generation. The listing also does not provide a separate recommended DirectX version.

What mature-content warnings cover
Steam labels Provincial Player for mature audiences. The listed warnings cover sexual content, gambling-related activities, strong language, alcohol, tobacco and violence-related material. The gambling warning is especially relevant because betting and money management are part of progression rather than an isolated optional scene.
Players who want a family-friendly billiards game should therefore look elsewhere; the setting and writing are aimed at adults and use deliberately coarse, provocative material.

Is it mainly a billiards simulator or an adventure game?
That depends on what you expect from each genre. Billiards is the repeated mechanical activity and the route to earning money, but the game’s broader structure is an adventure: you travel through a town, inspect situations, talk to characters and make decisions that unlock opportunities.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.

Unlike a pure pool simulator, Provincial Player does not focus solely on realistic practice, tournament ladders or equipment tuning. Unlike a traditional point-and-click quest, it asks you to manage a bankroll and perform at the table. The three cue-sports modes, gambling diversions and club-based encounters are all parts of one progression system.
Launch timing and availability
The digital Steam edition is the documented commercial release. iXBT Games reported a 15% launch discount running through October 29, 2026; that promotion is time-limited and may change after the stated end date.
The available platform information identifies Windows support. No console or macOS release is established by the cited store and release listings.

- Retro-PC players: the package preserves a late-1990s Russian adventure while adding widescreen, subtitles, restored media and modern save support.
- Billiards fans: American pool, snooker and carom provide the main repeatable activities.
- Adventure-game players: conversations, decisions and exploration determine access to opportunities.
- Players comfortable with adult satire: the store warnings include gambling, sexual content, strong language, alcohol, tobacco and violence-related material.
It is a particularly unusual fit for anyone who wants a sports game with a strong narrative wrapper rather than a conventional sports career mode.
