The headline refers to two separate healthcare data breaches, not one combined attack. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) lists 138,677 people affected in the Clover Health incident and 126,196 in the AngMar Management Services incident. Added together, those entries total 264,873; HHS does not publish that sum as a separate figure.
How many people were affected?
| Organization | HHS affected-person count | HHS submission date | Organization type and geography |

| Total of the two entries | 264,873 | Calculated from the two HHS entries; not a separate HHS-published total. | Two distinct incidents. |
HHS classifies both incidents as hacking/IT incidents. The counts represent the entries HHS lists for each organization, not proof that the same types of data were involved or that each individual experienced identity theft. HHS breach portal

What happened in each breach?
Clover Health: social engineering of employee accounts
Clover Health’s Form 8-K says the company became aware of anomalous login activity on July 4, 2026. Its investigation found that an attacker used social engineering to access three non-managerial health-plan employee accounts. Those accounts could access certain personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI), but not the company’s corporate financial or claims systems. Clover said the exact scope was still under investigation when it filed. Clover Health Form 8-K
The filing states: “The employee accounts had access to certain personally identifiable information and protected health information, but had no access to corporate financial or claims systems.” Clover said it activated incident-response procedures, worked with outside cybersecurity experts, took steps to contain the activity, notified law enforcement, and was assessing its notification obligations. AngMar Management Services: network-server incident
HHS classifies AngMar’s incident as a hacking/IT event involving a network server. AngMar’s notice says it identified unusual network activity on July 20, 2026, and that information may have been accessed or acquired around July 18. SecurityWeek reported that the Interlock ransomware group added AngMar to its leak site and claimed to have stolen more than 700 gigabytes. That volume is the group’s claim as reported by SecurityWeek, not an independently verified finding. AngMar notice SecurityWeek report

Clover Health
Clover’s filing describes the exposed systems in terms of access to PII and PHI, and says the investigation was ongoing. SecurityWeek reported that information potentially affected included names, dates of birth, insurance identifiers, and account identification numbers. The filing does not establish that every listed category was accessed for every person. Clover Health Form 8-K SecurityWeek report

A general reader cannot determine individual status from the public incident descriptions or HHS counts. Check whether you received a breach notice from Clover Health or AngMar Management Services and follow the instructions in that notice. If you are unsure whether a notice is genuine, contact the organization using contact details from its official website or your existing member or patient materials rather than links in an unexpected message.
What should you do if you received an AngMar notice?
AngMar’s September 22, 2026 notice says there was no evidence at that time that affected information had been or would be misused. That is the company’s time-specific statement, not a guarantee about future activity. The notice describes complimentary single-bureau credit monitoring provided by Cyberscout, a TransUnion company, and advises recipients to remain vigilant and review credit reports and account statements. The version of the notice described here redacts the service duration; check your own copy for eligibility, enrollment instructions, deadlines, and terms. AngMar notice
- Read the notice to identify which information categories may apply to you and whether you qualify for the offered monitoring.
- Review account statements and credit reports for unfamiliar activity, as AngMar advises.
- Use the contact and enrollment information in your notice if you need help or want to exercise an available service.
What should Clover Health members know?
Clover’s July Form 8-K documents containment and response actions, but the materials cited here do not establish whether Clover later offered credit monitoring or another member service. Use any direct notice from Clover for guidance on your individual situation; do not assume that AngMar’s monitoring offer applies to Clover members.
