24-Inch Monitor Guide: How to Choose the Right Screen for Work, Gaming, or a Second Display

The right 24-inch monitor depends on what you need it to do: office work and laptop docking, fast gaming, touch input, or simply adding an inexpensive second screen. Compare resolution and refresh rate together, check that the ports match your computer, and make sure the stand fits your desk setup.

What “24-inch” means

Many monitors sold as 24-inch models have a 23.8-inch viewable display. For example, ASUS lists its BE24ECSBT as a 24-inch monitor with a 23.8-inch viewable screen, while TechRadar lists the BenQ GW2486TC at 23.8 inches. Check the full specification rather than relying on the category name. ASUS · TechRadar

Choose by the job you need it to do

Office work and laptop docking

For documents, browser tabs, and a laptop-based desk, prioritize a suitable resolution, an adjustable stand, and the connections you actually need. If you want one cable for video, data, and laptop charging, verify that the monitor’s USB-C port supports all three and check its power-delivery wattage. The presence of USB-C alone does not guarantee laptop charging.

Gaming

Refresh rate matters for gaming, but choose it in light of the games you play and the frame rates your computer can deliver. A faster panel is not automatically the better choice if the rest of your setup cannot make use of it. Check the monitor’s resolution and refresh rate as a pair, along with the computer’s video outputs and supported modes.

  • A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents

Touch input

A touch display is useful when the work itself benefits from direct interaction. ASUS specifies 10-point touch on its BE24ECSBT and describes it as a “smooth and intuitive touch experience”; that wording is the manufacturer’s claim, not an independent test result. ASUS BE24ECSBT specifications

An inexpensive second screen

For a basic extension to a laptop or desktop, focus on the resolution, brightness, color coverage, and inputs that suit your tasks. A simple second screen may not need laptop charging, high refresh rates, or extensive stand adjustments.

Most of the cited 24-inch examples are Full HD (1920×1080), but the Dell US listings also include a 24.1-inch 1920×1200 display. The latter provides more vertical pixels, which may suit document-heavy work. Refresh rates in the cited examples range from 100 Hz to 144 Hz, but the figures refer to different models and product listings, not a controlled comparison. Match the resolution and refresh rate to your work, games, computer, and budget rather than treating either number as a standalone verdict. Dell US listings

Read brightness, color, and eye-comfort claims carefully

Brightness and color-gamut figures are useful when compared in context. TechRadar lists the GW2486TC at 250 nits and 99% sRGB; those are specifications reported in its 2026 guide, not a guarantee of how the monitor will look in every room or workflow. TechRadar

Manufacturers may describe products as eye-care, flicker-free, or designed to reduce blue light. Treat these as product features or claims, not proof that a monitor prevents eye strain or delivers a clinical outcome. Choose a display whose controls and position suit your use, and assess its image in your own lighting conditions.

A practical pre-purchase checklist

  • Confirm the actual viewable screen size and resolution.
  • Choose a refresh rate that suits your work or games and your computer’s capabilities.
  • Match the monitor’s inputs to your computer’s outputs.
  • If relying on USB-C, verify video, data, and charging support separately, including charging wattage.
  • Check the stand adjustments and mounting compatibility for your desk.
  • Compare the exact regional model and its current price and availability before ordering.
