24-Inch ASUS Monitor With Dead Pixels and a Red Problem: How to Diagnose It and Check Warranty Cover

Whether ASUS will repair or replace a 24-inch monitor with dead pixels depends on the exact model, the warranty period and your country. Screen size doesn’t decide it. A red tint is a separate problem, and it is often a cable, input or settings fault rather than a bad panel. This guide separates the two symptoms, gives the checks in the order that makes sense, and shows where to find your model’s official pixel policy.

First, work out what “redlight” means

The phrase can describe several different faults, and each has a different fix:

  • A red cast over the whole image. ASUS’s LCD troubleshooting FAQ (US site, last updated 2026-04-07) lists “Screen color is abnormal (reddish, greenish, yellowish, etc.)” and intermittent versions of it, such as “sometimes normal, sometimes reddish”, as a recognised symptom with its own checklist.
  • A single red dot. This is a sub-pixel fault, covered in the dead-pixel section below.
  • A red status LED. ASUS’s color-troubleshooting guidance doesn’t say what an indicator colour means on an unspecified model. Check the manual for your model, and note whether the light appears with or without a signal.

Before you start, note whether the red appears in the monitor’s own on-screen menu, and whether it changes when you switch input or source. That one observation tells you most of what you need.

Troubleshooting sequence for a red or tinted screen

  1. Check the input and reseat the cable. Make sure the monitor is on the input you’re actually using. Unplug the signal cable at both ends and plug it back in firmly. Look for bent pins or loose connectors.
  2. Try another cable. ASUS advises swapping in another signal cable (VGA, DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort or USB, depending on your setup) and making sure the cable version suits the monitor’s port. Match the connector and version on both the monitor and the computer before buying anything.
  3. Isolate the fault. Connect the monitor to a different computer or source, or connect your original source to a different display. If the tint follows the source or cable, the monitor isn’t the cause. If it stays on the monitor with every source, the monitor itself is the likely culprit. This is a reasoning step based on ASUS’s suggested comparison checks, not an official diagnosis.
  4. Reset the monitor. ASUS’s FAQ points to the on-screen menu, with a System Setup > Reset path on applicable models. Menu names and hotkeys differ by model, so follow your own manual.
  5. Check the monitor’s own menu. If the red cast is visible in the on-screen display, which is generated by the monitor and not the computer, that points to the panel or its electronics. A tint that appears only on the desktop points to the source, graphics settings or colour profile.

If the tint persists across sources and survives a reset, contact ASUS support with the model and serial number.

Dead pixels: what ASUS counts and how to check

ASUS’s warranty documents define a bright dot as a sub-pixel that is always on when the screen shows a black pattern. A dark dot is a sub-pixel that is always off on any pattern. Which type you have matters because warranty tables usually set separate limits for each.

  1. Display full-screen solid colours in turn: black, white, red, green and blue. Use any full-screen colour test page or image.
  2. Note each defect’s position and whether it is bright (visible on black) or dark (visible on other colours).
  3. Don’t press, rub or massage the panel. It can’t be relied on to fix a fault and can cause new damage.
  4. Confirm that the dot is on the screen itself and not a speck of dust. A dot that shows in the monitor’s own menu is on the panel.

Will ASUS cover dead pixels on a 24-inch monitor?

Possibly, but there is no universal pixel count. ASUS’s FAQ tells owners to enter the model on the official support site and find the dead-pixel information in the Warranty column. Model support pages also warn that warranty and dead-on-arrival policies may vary by territory.

ASUS document What it shows How far it applies
US warranty page for the VA27AQ (marked updated March 2025) Thresholds that vary across PG, PA and other model families and warranty periods Illustrative of US policy only; not your model unless it’s listed

Because of that spread, don’t assume that a 24-inch ASUS monitor with a few dead pixels qualifies, or that it doesn’t.

How to check your own warranty terms

  1. Find the exact model name and serial number on the rear label or in the on-screen menu.
  2. On the official ASUS support site for your country, search for the model and open its support page.
  3. Open the Warranty tab. Check the warranty period, your region and the bright-dot and dark-dot table.
  4. Compare your count and dot type with the table, and check your purchase date against the warranty period.
  5. If you qualify, or the model’s terms don’t make it clear, contact ASUS support with the model, serial number, proof of purchase and photos of the defects on black and coloured backgrounds.

Warranty terms change. Use the version shown on your local ASUS page today, not a figure quoted elsewhere, including the US examples above.

When a new cable is worth buying

A replacement cable is the one low-cost diagnostic purchase here, and only if it matches the connector and version on both the monitor and the computer. A new cable can’t fix dead pixels or a panel-level tint. Don’t buy a replacement monitor or panel until you’ve isolated the fault and checked your warranty.
