That is an available maximum—not a guarantee for every vehicle or a safe loaded-trailer target for every setup. Your specific Grand Wagoneer’s ratings, remaining payload, hitch components and trailer all determine what you can tow.
How much can a 2026 Grand Wagoneer tow?
Jeep’s 2026 Grand Wagoneer FAQ says the vehicle offers “a maximum towing capacity of up to 10,000 pounds.” Jeep’s 2026 towing guide also presents the figure as an available maximum and notes that equipment, options, passengers and cargo affect capacity. Treat 10,000 pounds as the ceiling for an appropriately equipped configuration, not as the rating of every Grand Wagoneer.

Model year matters: Jeep’s 2025 capability page lists up to 9,800 pounds for standard-wheelbase models. That prior-year figure does not establish the rating of every 2025 build, and it should not be carried forward as the 2026 rating.

| Model year and scope | Published maximum | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 Grand Wagoneer | Up to 10,000 lb | Available maximum; configuration-dependent, per Jeep’s FAQ and towing guide. |
| 2025 Grand Wagoneer, standard wheelbase | Up to 9,800 lb | Prior-year figure for the stated scope; not a universal rating for all 2025 builds, per Jeep’s capability page. |
These headline figures are not a complete configuration-by-configuration rating chart. Jeep’s public pages do not establish exact maximum trailer and tongue ratings for every wheelbase, trim, axle, package and installed option. For a specific vehicle, use its owner’s manual, loading placard and hitch labels rather than inferring its rating from the headline maximum.

What determines the safe trailer weight?
A trailer’s loaded weight must be within the exact vehicle’s maximum trailer rating, but that is only one of the limits to check. The loaded tow vehicle and the full combination must also remain within their applicable ratings. Jeep’s towing guide defines GVWR as the maximum loaded vehicle weight, GCWR as the maximum weight of the vehicle and trailer together, and tongue weight as the downward load at the hitch ball.
- GVWR: The tow vehicle’s maximum loaded weight. Passengers, cargo, accessories, installed options and trailer tongue weight all contribute to vehicle load.
- GCWR: The maximum permitted combined weight of the loaded vehicle and trailer.
- GAWR: The rating for each axle. The load on either axle must stay within its own limit.
- Maximum trailer and tongue ratings: Check the ratings for the exact vehicle and hitch; the hitch’s tongue-weight limit may be lower than another component’s.
- Payload remaining: Account for occupants, cargo, accessories and options before adding tongue weight. Tongue weight loads the tow vehicle rather than disappearing into the trailer rating.
Jeep’s 2026 FAQ lists 6,412 pounds as curb weight and 7,700 pounds as GVWR. Those published model figures are not the exact loaded weight or available payload of every vehicle, so they do not by themselves establish how much tongue weight or cargo your Grand Wagoneer can carry.

Do not estimate a safe trailer limit by subtracting curb weight from the maximum tow rating. Instead, weigh or otherwise establish the loaded vehicle and trailer weights, then check the vehicle’s actual ratings and the hitch and trailer-component limits. The Jeep towing guide and your vehicle’s loading placard and owner’s manual are the references for those limits.

The required setup depends on the specific vehicle and trailer. Match every towing component to the coupler, vehicle and load, and confirm its stamped rating before towing.

Receiver, drawbar, ball and coupler
The receiver, drawbar, hitch ball and trailer coupler must be compatible with one another and rated for the load. Do not assume that a part listed for a Grand Wagoneer is suitable for the 10,000-pound headline maximum. For example, the Mopar eStore listing for a 2-inch ball gives that ball a 6,000-pound rating and says to refer to the owner’s manual for vehicle-specific load ratings. Use the manual and markings on each component to select suitable hardware.
Trailer brakes and brake controller
Identify the trailer’s braking system and confirm whether the particular Grand Wagoneer has factory-integrated trailer brake control. If the trailer requires a compatible controller and the vehicle lacks one, Mopar lists a controller module kit for some Wagoneer builds that were not equipped with brake control at production. The Mopar listing is not proof of universal fitment or a statement that every setup requires that kit; verify fitment by VIN and the trailer’s requirements. The available material does not establish a universal trailer-weight threshold for brakes, so do not infer one.

Safety chains
Use safety chains as directed in the owner’s manual. Jeep’s 2026 manual excerpt directs drivers to cross the chains beneath the trailer tongue and leave enough slack for turning. Follow the manual’s attachment and setup instructions for the vehicle.
Weight-distributing hitch and sway control
Depending on the vehicle configuration and loading, Jeep’s 2026 manual excerpt says a weight-distributing hitch may be recommended or required. This equipment does not raise the vehicle’s rated towing capacity. A poorly adjusted weight-distributing system can impair handling, stability and braking, so follow the vehicle, hitch and trailer manufacturers’ instructions. Confirm whether sway control is appropriate for your setup rather than treating it as a substitute for correct loading.

How to check your specific Grand Wagoneer and trailer
- Identify the vehicle: Confirm its model year, wheelbase, installed towing equipment and whether it has factory trailer brake control. Do not apply one model year’s headline figure to another.
- Read the vehicle’s ratings: Check the owner’s manual, tire-and-loading placard and hitch labels for the specific vehicle’s maximum trailer and tongue ratings, GVWR, GCWR and front and rear GAWR.
- Establish loaded weights: Include passengers, cargo, accessories and installed options in the tow vehicle. Include everything carried in the trailer when determining its loaded weight and tongue weight.
- Check the complete connection: Verify the receiver, drawbar, ball and coupler are compatible and that each component’s rating covers the load. Confirm chains, lights and brakes are connected and working.
- Confirm braking and hitch setup: Match the trailer’s braking system to the vehicle’s available controller. Follow the manual and hitch instructions on weight distribution and sway control for the actual configuration and loading.
- Complete pre-trip checks: Jeep’s towing guide recommends checking load weight, hitch and coupler connection, lights and brakes, tires, chains or straps, and towing technology before departure.
Break-in limits for a new vehicle
Jeep’s 2026 owner’s manual excerpt says not to tow during the first 500 miles of vehicle operation. During the first 500 miles of towing a trailer, do not exceed 50 mph or make full-throttle starts. Consult the manual for the full break-in guidance applicable to your vehicle.
