Those are dated deal snapshots, not guaranteed prices today. They show what a monitor upgrade could offer at those prices; they do not prove monitors are objectively the best-value PC gaming purchase across the market.
What the $200 and $330 examples actually are
PC Gamer’s October 2, 2026 roundup reported the following U.S. offers. Prices and availability are historical snapshots, so check the retailer’s live listing before relying on them.

| Monitor | Reported offer | Reported specifications | Retailer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Acer Nitro MGA270U X2biipx | $199 | 27-inch, 1440p, 200 Hz, 0.5 ms response-time claim | Walmart |
| Samsung Odyssey G5 G50SF | $328.99 | 27-inch, 1440p OLED, 180 Hz, 0.03 ms response-time claim | Amazon US |
Both offers and specifications in this table were reported by PC Gamer on October 2, 2026. Acer’s U.S. product/support page independently identifies the Nitro as a 27-inch model and lists a 0.50 ms response-time specification, two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4 port, and a DisplayPort cable in the box. That page does not establish the roundup’s 1440p, 200 Hz, or Walmart-price details. See Acer’s Nitro MGA270U X2 support page.
The Samsung model suffix is important: the official Samsung G50F pages found for comparison describe a different flat IPS model, not the G50SF OLED named in the deal roundup. They do not validate the G50SF’s panel or response-time claims. Treat those G50SF specifications here as PC Gamer’s reporting, not as independently confirmed by those Samsung pages. Samsung’s gaming-monitor listings illustrate why checking the exact model matters.

How to interpret the speed and panel claims
Refresh rate is only one part of the upgrade
A 200 Hz display can refresh more frequently than a 120 Hz one, but the headline number alone does not tell you how much better the purchase will feel. Consider the resolution and panel alongside refresh rate, and whether your games and PC can make use of the higher refresh rate. The reported $199 Nitro combines 200 Hz with 1440p; the $328.99 Samsung combines 180 Hz and 1440p with an OLED panel, according to PC Gamer.
Response-time figures need context
The roundup reports response-time figures in milliseconds, while Acer’s official Nitro page specifies 0.50 ms. A quoted response time is a manufacturer or listing specification, not a complete measure of motion clarity or a guarantee that every pixel transition performs identically. Compare the full product and review information rather than choosing on the smallest millisecond figure alone.

OLED is a different panel proposition, not just a speed tier
The Samsung G50SF offer stands out in the roundup because it is identified as OLED, while the Nitro is presented as a conventional gaming monitor. That distinction can matter as much as refresh rate when choosing a display, but the G50SF’s OLED identification and 0.03 ms figure in this comparison come from PC Gamer; the Samsung G50F IPS pages are for another model.
Check the exact model and current offer before buying
- Match the complete model code. Confirm the listing says MGA270U X2biipx, G50SF, or the exact alternative you intend to buy. Similar Samsung G5 names can refer to different displays.
- Compare the listing with the needed specifications. Check resolution, screen size, panel type, refresh rate, ports, and what is included. Acer lists two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4 port, and a DisplayPort cable for the Nitro on its support page.
- Verify seller, stock, and checkout price. The $199 and $328.99 figures were reported at Walmart and Amazon US respectively on October 2, 2026. They may no longer be available, and neither should be assumed to apply at another retailer.
- Assess value against your use, not the headline. Put resolution and panel type next to refresh rate and price. A cheaper display or a higher refresh-rate figure is not automatically the better fit.
So, are monitors still the best deal in PC gaming?
The examples make a persuasive case that gaming displays can offer a substantial-feeling upgrade at prices below the usual cost of many high-end PC components: a reported $199 for 27-inch 1440p at 200 Hz, or $328.99 for a reported 27-inch 1440p OLED at 180 Hz. But “best deal” is an editorial judgment, not a demonstrated market-wide ranking. The October roundup supplies no comparable value measure showing that monitors beat GPUs, SSDs, or RAM as a category. The defensible takeaway is narrower: those dated prices illustrate compelling monitor options, provided the exact model and live deal still check out.
