20 B2B Lead Generation Strategies for 2026, and How to Choose Among Them

No single B2B lead generation channel has been shown to work best in 2026. The most current buyer evidence describes a mixed journey: most buyers want to research and evaluate on their own, but they still want a sales conversation to check what they have learned and to make high-stakes decisions. The twenty strategies below are practical options built around that journey. Which ones deserve budget depends on your audience, sales cycle, budget, and how well your team can run them.

Treat the list as a menu grouped by where each tactic fits in the buying process, not as a ranking. None of the sources cited here compared these tactics head to head.

What buyers are doing in 2026

Gartner’s May 20, 2026 press release reports a survey of 645 B2B buyers fielded in August and September 2025. In a recent purchase, those buyers used an average of seven information sources, and 45% said they used generative AI, primarily to gather information about vendors and products.

Two practical implications follow. Your product, pricing, and comparison facts need to be findable and consistent wherever a buyer looks, including AI-generated summaries you do not control. And the content you publish has to work for someone who is still early in the process and not yet ready to talk to anyone. These are findings about one survey of 645 buyers, so they describe that sample rather than every B2B market, region, or industry.

How do I balance self-service with talking to sales?

The same Gartner survey found that 70% of buyers prefer a completely digital, self-service buying experience and 67% prefer a sales rep-free experience. In a separate question, 69% said they prefer to validate AI-generated insights with sales representatives. These findings are compatible. Buyers want to move through most of the process alone and still want a seller at the moments when they need confidence.

Robert Blaisdell, VP Analyst and Chief of Research in Gartner’s Sales practice, said: “Sales leaders should not interpret buyer preference for digital self-service as a signal that sellers matter less,” and added: “It is a signal that sellers need to show up differently, engaging where they can help buyers validate information, reduce risk and move forward with greater confidence.” These are preference figures, so use them to design the journey, not to predict conversion rates.

In practice, that means giving each buying task a self-service asset and a clearly labeled point where a person can step in:

Buying task Self-service asset to offer Where to offer a human
Defining the problem Problem-solving article, checklist, or calculator A single, low-pressure link to ask a question, with no meeting required
Shortlisting vendors Comparison page, product details, and pricing or pricing factors where you can publish them A short fit call when a visitor asks how the product works for their setup
Validating claims Case study with method and limits, documentation, demo, or trial An expert session or call that tests the claims against the buyer’s own situation
Committing Security, contract, and implementation information Scoping, pricing negotiation, and procurement handled by sales

The 20 strategies

Each strategy below is an editorial recommendation that applies the buyer and marketer evidence above. None of the sources tested these tactics against one another, so the grouping reflects where each tactic sits in the buying process.

1. Answer specific buying and operational questions with problem-solving pages

Build pages that answer the questions a buyer or operator asks before they know your name: how to choose a category, what a migration involves, how much staff time a rollout takes. Base them on original material, and update them on a schedule so statements about features, pricing, and compliance do not go stale. The value is reaching people who are already inside the problem, not chasing a broad head term. Judge these pages by how many visitors reach a contact or trial step and whether those visitors later appear as matched accounts in your CRM, not by pageviews alone.

2. Keep your facts consistent for AI-assisted research

Because 45% of Gartner’s surveyed buyers used generative AI mainly to learn about vendors and products, the pages that define your product should use clear product names, plain definitions, dated evidence, and identical claims everywhere they appear: your site, documentation, partner listings, and sales decks. Conflicting figures are the most avoidable problem. Treat this as hygiene, not as a lead source. You cannot control how an AI system summarizes a page, and none of the cited sources measured how AI tools describe individual vendors. Do not promise citations or rankings.

3. Publish comparisons that show the trade-offs

Buying groups compare options before they contact a seller. Publish comparisons that state who each option suits, where it falls short, what implementation takes, and what switching costs. Including trade-offs that favor a competitor makes the page usable by a committee. A page that only flatters you is easy for an evaluator to dismiss.

4. Build a self-service evaluation path

Give buyers a way to test the product without a meeting: a recorded demo, a trial or sandbox where your category allows it, sample outputs, or a sample dataset. If your sales model requires a conversation, say so and explain what that conversation covers. Publish exact prices where you can, and where you cannot, publish the factors that set them. Track this path by the share of trials that reach a qualified conversation, not by sign-ups alone.

5. Use targeted paid search to capture active demand

Metadata’s 2026 paid-media benchmark covers 153 B2B advertisers that routed $57.6 million of spend through its platform in calendar 2025, and reports 211,000 leads from that spend. LinkedIn accounted for 69.6% of spend, Google Ads for 15.2%, Facebook for 10.6%, and Instagram for 4.3%. This is a sample of advertisers using one platform, not a market-wide census or a ranking of which channel performs best. Pipeline and cost-per-customer figures in the same report cover only the 90 advertisers with connected CRM data, and the methodology defines sourced pipeline, influenced revenue, and cost per customer. Read the spend mix as a description of where this sample invested, not as advice.

For paid search itself, match each ad group to one intent and send it to a landing page that answers that exact query. Match the offer to the stage: a comparison guide for a shortlisting query, a demo for a query that signals readiness to buy. Judge keywords by qualified pipeline and cost per customer, which requires the CRM link, not by cost per click or form fills.

6. Run account- and role-targeted professional-network campaigns

LinkedIn made up 69.6% of spend in Metadata’s sample. That shows how heavily these advertisers relied on the platform, not that it produced the best results. For an account-based approach, build a target account list and reach the roles that influence the decision, such as an operations lead, a finance approver, and a technical evaluator, each with a different message. Measure the target accounts reached, engagement from those accounts, and downstream pipeline against a comparable control group where possible. Raw lead counts flatter broad targeting.

7. Retarget informed visitors with a useful next step

Retargeting works best when the ad offers the logical next step after the visit: a comparison guide for someone who read a pricing page, a case study for someone who read a solution page. Respect consent under the rules that apply to you, cap frequency, and exclude people who have already converted. Do not assume every return visit is incremental, because some people would have returned anyway. Use a holdout audience or a time-based or geographic split where you can run one.

8. Build a video library around buyer questions

A LinkedIn and Ipsos report based on research conducted in March 2025 found that 78% of B2B marketers use video. These are self-reported adoption figures. They show that video is standard practice, not that it causes more leads. Make each video answer one question: a short walkthrough of a workflow, an expert explaining a regulatory change, a customer describing their deployment. Place each video where the question arises, such as on a comparison page, in a setup guide, or in a follow-up email. Publish transcripts so the content is searchable, and track whether viewers take the next step rather than counting views.

9. Work with subject-matter experts and creators whose audiences match your buyers

The same LinkedIn and Ipsos report found that 55% of B2B marketers use creators, and that 58% prioritize credibility and brand alignment when selecting influencers. Choose people whose audiences overlap your buying group and whose expertise you can verify. Disclose commercial relationships clearly in every post, and agree in writing on what the creator may and may not claim. Buyers who discover an undisclosed sponsorship will discount everything else the creator says. Evaluate creators on engaged target accounts and pipeline from tracked links or codes, not on follower counts.

10. Publish original benchmark reports with the method stated

Original data gives buyers something to cite internally, but only if the method is visible. State the sample size, who fielded the survey, the dates, who sponsored it, and what the sample leaves out. Turn the findings into a written summary, a set of charts, and a one-page version your sales team can send. A report keeps producing value after launch only when those formats exist.

11. Develop case studies with verifiable context

A case study a buying committee can reuse states the customer’s starting situation, the approach, the timeframe, the results, how each result was measured, and the limits: what did not work, or where the result may not generalize. A percentage improvement with no baseline or time window is hard to repeat internally. Get written approval from the customer for every number and quote before release.

12. Ask satisfied customers for referrals and advocacy at the right moment

Introductions and permission to tell a customer’s story are requests, not entitlements. Ask after a customer has reached a measured result or during a renewal discussion. Make the request specific: one named contact, one reference call, or one quote they can edit. Offer a clear way to decline. Track referred opportunities separately so the motion is judged on pipeline rather than on the number of requests sent.

13. Host educational webinars and live expert sessions

Design each session so that an attendee who is not ready to buy still leaves with something usable: a checklist, a live walkthrough of an example, or answers to a common problem. Offer one optional follow-up, such as a recording link or a consultation booking, and make clear that declining does not limit access. Count attendees who later enter a qualified opportunity, not registrations.

14. Provide practical templates, calculators, and assessment tools

A calculator or assessment is useful when its assumptions are visible and its output is something a buyer can take to a colleague. Show the inputs and formula, let users change the assumptions, and collect only the information the follow-up requires. Asking for many required fields before a result appears will lose many of the people you most want to reach. Measure completions, and then the share of completions that become qualified conversations.

15. Build partner and integration co-marketing

Partner with products whose users already face the problem you solve, not simply with the logos that look good on a slide. Before launch, agree on who owns each lead, expected response times, how attribution is recorded, and whether the partner receives credit for a resulting opportunity. Co-publish implementation guides or co-hosted education, and keep a shared list of partner-sourced accounts visible to both sales teams.

16. Use intent signals to prioritize accounts, not to justify spam

Combine first-party engagement, such as pages viewed, trials started, or webinars attended, with legitimate account signals like a stated initiative or a hiring push. Then check whether the account fits your ideal profile before reaching out. A signal shows relevance, not that a purchase is underway. A burst of visits from one company is a reason to look more closely, not a reason to call immediately.

17. Run permission-based email nurture

Segment by role, stated need, and actual behavior, and send material that helps the recipient decide. Honor unsubscribes and preference settings promptly, and follow the consent rules that apply where each recipient is located. An open is one weak signal among several. A click on a pricing or integration page usually says more, and a reply says more still.

18. Coordinate selective outbound with buyer context

Choose a narrow list of accounts where you can name a specific business issue, then write about that issue rather than about your product. Give the recipient a clear way to decline or defer, and record that answer in the CRM so the same person is not re-entered into a sequence. Measure outbound by meetings that become qualified opportunities, not by messages sent.

19. Align marketing and sales on what a qualified lead is

Write down the definition of a qualified lead or account, the routing rules, the expected response, and the feedback loop. Sales disposition data, such as accepted, rejected with a reason, or no decision, should flow back into campaign planning on a regular schedule. Without that loop, marketing optimizes for lead volume that sales never accepts. Store the definitions as CRM fields, not only in a slide deck.

20. Measure experiments on qualified pipeline and customer outcomes

Connect each campaign, form, and touchpoint to CRM records so every lead can be traced to an opportunity and then to a customer. Define sourced and influenced pipeline before you report on either, and use the same definitions and time windows every time. Where possible, test incrementality with holdouts or controlled comparisons, because attribution alone cannot show what would have happened without a campaign. Metadata’s methodology is a useful model for how precise these definitions need to be.

How to compare strategies on the same measures

Score every tactic on the same axes so you are comparing like with like:

  • Target-account and role fit
  • Buying stage reached
  • Lead-to-qualified-opportunity and opportunity-to-customer progression
  • Cost per qualified opportunity and cost per customer
  • Sourced versus influenced pipeline, using one set of definitions everywhere
  • Time to a useful sales conversation
  • Fit with your sales-cycle length
  • Operational effort and ongoing upkeep
  • Privacy and consent requirements
  • Confidence in the evidence behind the tactic

Set targets for each segment rather than one blended cost per lead. An average across enterprise accounts and small trial sign-ups hides where money is being wasted.

Which strategies should you start with?

Start with two or three strategies that match your situation, connect them to your CRM, and add others only once you can see which ones produce qualified pipeline. The combinations below are starting points, not guarantees.

Your situation Start with Why this combination
Long, committee-driven sale with high contract value Strategies 3, 10, 11, and 19 Buying groups seek validation at several points, so evidence, honest comparisons, and shared sales definitions matter more than volume.
Self-serve product with a short purchase path Strategies 1, 4, 5, and 7 Buyers can move through most steps alone, so the priority is answering their questions, offering a trial, and capturing active demand.
Account-based motion focused on named enterprise accounts Strategies 6, 16, 18, and 19 Targeting specific buying roles and accounts works best when outreach is selective and sales agrees on what counts as qualified.
Small team with limited media budget Strategies 1, 2, 17, and 20 Owned content and nurture draw mainly on staff time rather than media spend, and measurement keeps that time pointed at pipeline.
Product with an established partner ecosystem Strategies 9, 12, and 15 Partner audiences already share your use case, and referrals and expert voices carry that trust across to new buyers.
