For a fresh Rebel Galaxy Outlaw playthrough, the community-made RGO Mega Mod Pack is the simplest way to combine several changes. If you want to keep your existing setup, choose individual mods instead: ship and HUD additions, weapon or handling changes, faster travel, and small quality-of-life fixes. These are community recommendations, not firsthand-tested rankings; check each mod page’s current files, requirements, and instructions before installing.
Choose mods around the kind of change you want
The options below are grouped by what they change, rather than ranked as objectively best. The names and compatibility notes reflect the community recommendation thread and mod authors’ descriptions; files and instructions may change.

For a bundled fresh playthrough
- RGO Mega Mod Pack. A bundle for players who want several changes together rather than installing each one separately. Its author recommends playing on Veteran difficulty or below and avoiding additional mods to reduce conflict risk. The pack also includes optional files that can be removed for mouse-and-keyboard input, shield balance, or cargo restrictions; see the installation section before using it.
For more ships
- Sequoia MK2 Ship. A ship addition for players who want another craft option.
- Foxbat MK2 Ship. Another ship variant listed in the community roundup.
- Mattock MK2 Ship. A further ship addition for a different craft choice.
- Super Coyote. A new ship option named in the roundup.
- Strike Eagle. Another listed option for players looking to fly a different ship.
For a different cockpit display
- Sonora Ship HUD. A ship-specific HUD change for players who want a different presentation or cockpit-readability setup.
- Mattock Ship HUD. An alternate display option associated with the Mattock.
- Foxbat Ship HUD. A ship-specific HUD change for the Foxbat.
For combat variety or handling changes
- Projectile and Missile Weapons Overhaul. Changes weapon variety. The community roundup says its author recommends Veteran difficulty.
- Player and AI Ship Turn Rate Overhaul. Alters ship handling for both the player and AI. The recommender warns against combining it with the five earlier modded ships in the thread and points to an optional rebalanced file for those ships. Treat that as author guidance for the listed files, not a blanket compatibility guarantee.
For travel and smaller conveniences
- Additional Jump Gates. Adds travel convenience for moving between locations.
- No Autopilot Prompt Audio Spamming. A convenience option for players bothered by repeated autopilot prompt audio.
- Longer Time to Read Bartender Dialogue. Gives dialogue more time on screen for players who prefer a slower reading pace.
- Advanced Repair Droid. A repair-related option. Check its current mod page for the exact effect and instructions before installing it.
How to install the Mega Mod Pack
The pack author’s page describes a manual installation using the archive’s .PAK files. Follow the current page instructions if they differ from these notes.

.PAKfiles into the game’sPAKSfolder. - If you use mouse and keyboard and the pack’s input behavior causes problems, the author says to remove
88_DISABLE_MOUSE_INPUT.PAK. - If combat feels too difficult, the author says you can remove
77_Rebalanced_Shield4.pak. If you do not want the cargo expansion unlocked, remove99_Delete_Holdrestriction_v1.0.pak. - Before uninstalling while flying a modded ship, return to a vanilla ship. Then delete the pack’s mod files.
The pack author recommends Veteran difficulty or below and advises against adding other mods to reduce the chance of conflicts. Those cautions apply to this pack; they are not universal rules for every standalone mod.
Check compatibility before combining mods
For individual files, read the mod page’s “About this mod” section and follow its current requirements. The Steam community recommendation thread, posted in June 2024 and edited in January 2026, specifically cautions against pairing its Player and AI Ship Turn Rate Overhaul with the five previously listed modded ships. It also mentions an optional rebalanced file. Since file versions can change, use the current author instructions rather than assuming an old combination remains compatible.
Nexus Mods’ recent activity includes cargo, ship, weapon, repair, and tractor-beam changes. That shows the catalog has seen community updates; it does not establish that every file works with every game installation. Other candidates mentioned by the community include Improved Tractor Beams, cargo expansion changes, extra power plants, Bountiful Vista Base guild and commodity-market additions, a warp sound replacement, Mix Tape soundtrack content, and cockpit or MFD fixes. Check their individual pages for exact effects and compatibility.

Controller setup is optional
A flight stick or gamepad is not required to install or play mods. Official support documentation says devices need XInput; DInput controllers or other devices may require software or firmware for proper XInput detection. For some mouse-and-keyboard problems, the support guidance recommends relative controls. The Mega Mod Pack author also gives a separate mouse-input file instruction, so check that pack-specific note if you use a mouse.
