USB-C is a connector, not a guarantee of speed, charging power, data access, or video output. The 13 gadgets below show where the connector is genuinely useful, from a pocket screwdriver to a laptop dock, while highlighting the compatibility checks that prevent expensive surprises.
The examples come from PCWorld’s roundup published October 25, 2025, SlashGear’s roundup published September 5, 2026, and manufacturer catalog material accessed October 13, 2026. They are editorial examples and catalog descriptions, not independent hands-on test results.

Before you buy: what the USB-C port actually tells you
A USB-C socket only describes the shape of the plug. The host device, accessory and cable still determine what happens. A phone may accept charging and USB data but lack video output; a laptop may support an external display through one USB-C port but not another. SlashGear’s guidance is the practical rule: video works only when the connected device supports video output over USB-C.

The same caution applies to hubs, power banks and storage. USB-C presence does not establish a transfer rate, charging wattage, laptop support or display resolution. Check the product’s output specification, the host device’s capabilities and the cable rating together.

The 13 gadgets and the job each one solves
1. USB-C rechargeable precision screwdriver: Wowstick 1F+
A mini electric screwdriver turns repetitive light repairs into a quicker, more controlled task. PCWorld describes the Wowstick 1F+ as USB-C rechargeable, with a reported speed of 200 rotations per minute and 56 included bits. Those figures are article-reported product claims from 2025, not independent measurements.
It suits electronics covers, small appliances, toys, eyeglasses and other jobs where a compact driver and many bit shapes matter more than brute force. The small motor is not a substitute for a full-size drill or a high-torque manual driver. Before buying, check that the bit set matches your fastener types and that the tool’s torque is appropriate for the material; overdriving tiny screws can strip heads or damage threads.
2. USB-C rechargeable screwdriver kit: HOTO 25-piece set
SlashGear’s 2026 roundup names a HOTO kit with 25 bits and reports a company-touted recharge time of under 150 minutes. Recheck the current listing because charging times and included pieces can change between revisions.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
This is the better shape of tool when you want a curated household kit rather than the larger selection associated with the Wowstick example. Use it for light furniture adjustments, switch plates and routine home maintenance. Compare the bit selection, grip and torque with the fasteners you actually encounter. A precision kit is valuable because it fits the job; it is not automatically better for heavy-duty work.
3. Compact USB-C power bank: Anker Nano Power Bank
PCWorld lists an Anker Nano Power Bank with a reported 5,000mAh capacity and a foldable USB-C connector. Capacity is the article’s model detail, not a promise of a fixed number of phone charges: conversion losses, battery size and charging conditions affect the result.
Its appeal is portability when you are away from a wall outlet. Check the bank’s USB-C output wattage, supported charging standards and whether the connector is mechanically suitable for your phone. Do not infer laptop compatibility from capacity or from the presence of USB-C; a laptop may require substantially more output power than a small phone-focused bank provides. If you need to recharge several devices, also check whether the stated output is shared between ports.

4. Compact USB-C hub
A basic hub expands one USB-C host port into additional connections, commonly USB-A data ports. It is useful when a thin laptop has only USB-C but you still need a keyboard, mouse, printer, wired controller or older flash drive.
Recommended Free Tools
Confirm the hub’s data standard, the number and type of ports, and whether it draws all power from the host. If you intend to attach a display, Ethernet or an SD card, choose a model that explicitly includes those functions; a simple USB-A hub will not gain them by implication. Host support matters too: some tablets and phones expose fewer functions than a computer.
5. Powered USB-C docking station
A docking station is the desk-oriented alternative to a minimal hub. Depending on the model, a dock can combine HDMI, card readers, headphone output, Ethernet, multiple USB ports and charging pass-through. SlashGear distinguishes this fuller class of device from a basic hub.
Pick a dock when you want one cable to connect a computer to a monitor, network, accessories and power. Read the host-support list carefully, especially for operating-system restrictions, USB4 or Thunderbolt requirements and multi-monitor behavior. Match the dock’s video outputs to the displays you own, and verify the power-delivery input and output ratings before expecting it to charge a laptop at full speed. A dock cannot add a capability that the host port or operating system does not expose.
6. USB-C flash drive
A USB-C flash drive remains a straightforward way to move large files physically or keep an offline copy. It is handy for transferring photos between a phone and computer, carrying a presentation without cloud access, or maintaining a second copy of important documents.
Speed varies widely. SlashGear separates lower-cost USB 3.2 Gen 1 products from faster, more expensive models, so do not treat a product’s USB-C plug as a performance rating. Check the drive’s stated protocol, the host device’s port standard and the cable or adapter path. Confirm file-system compatibility with every device you plan to use, and encrypt sensitive files if the drive will leave your home or office.

7. USB-C-to-HDMI adapter
This adapter connects a compatible USB-C source to an HDMI display, television or projector. It is a convenient presentation and second-screen solution when the laptop or tablet supports DisplayPort Alt Mode or another documented video mode over USB-C.
Compatibility is the first gate: a charging-only USB-C port will not produce a picture. Then match the adapter to the display input and the resolution and refresh rate you need. The reviewed material establishes video support as a prerequisite but does not verify particular resolution claims for individual adapters, so rely on the current product specification and your host manufacturer’s documentation rather than a generic “USB-C” label.
8. USB-C-to-DisplayPort adapter
A DisplayPort adapter fills the same role for monitors that use DisplayPort instead of HDMI. It can be the cleaner choice for a computer monitor already equipped with that input, but the host still must output video through USB-C.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCheck whether the adapter is directional, whether it supports the monitor’s required resolution and refresh rate, and whether audio is carried as expected. If you use a USB-C hub or dock in the chain, its own video limits become the limiting factor. Keep the connection simple while troubleshooting: test the host, adapter and display directly before adding a dock, extension or switch.
9. USB-C inspection or endoscope camera
An inspection camera places a small lens at the end of a flexible cable so you can look into spaces that are difficult or unsafe to reach directly. Typical uses include checking behind appliances, examining a drain, locating a dropped object or inspecting a vehicle compartment.
These cameras are situational rather than universal purchases. Confirm the connector and operating-system support for your phone or tablet, then verify that the required app is available for that device. Look for the cable length, camera diameter, lighting controls and water-resistance rating that fit your task. A camera can show a hard-to-see area; it does not replace proper safety procedures or a qualified inspection when structural, electrical or hazardous conditions are involved.

10. USB-C monitor light bar
A monitor light bar sits above a screen and directs illumination onto the desk instead of shining a lamp into your eyes or across the display. It can make a compact workstation more comfortable when you read paper notes, write or work at night.
Measure the monitor’s top edge and bezel before ordering. Check how the bar is mounted, whether brightness and color temperature are adjustable, and whether the USB-C connection is for power only or also carries controls through an app. Curved, unusually thin or very thick monitors may need a specific clamp design. Position the light to reduce reflections on glossy screens; no connector specification can solve poor placement.
11. USB-C rechargeable flashlight
A rechargeable flashlight replaces disposable cells with a USB-C charging routine. It is useful in a vehicle, emergency kit, workshop or travel bag, particularly when your other electronics already use the same cable.
Choose based on the job rather than a headline brightness number. Check beam pattern, runtime at the brightness level you will actually use, weather resistance, switch behavior and whether charging is possible while the light is stored in a case. A USB-C port does not tell you whether the light supports fast charging, pass-through operation or charging from every power bank, so read those details in the model specification.
12. USB-C rechargeable hand warmer
A hand warmer is a cold-weather comfort gadget that uses a rechargeable battery to provide heat while you walk, commute, watch outdoor sports or work outside. Some designs are also intended to provide emergency phone power, but that function must be verified rather than assumed.
Check the warmer’s heating modes, operating time, surface temperature controls and safety protections. If it doubles as a power bank, compare its USB-C output with your phone’s requirements and understand that heating and charging at the same time can shorten runtime. Keep it away from moisture and follow the maker’s storage and charging guidance for lithium batteries.

13. USB-C portable fan
A portable fan is a context-dependent choice for desks, travel, transit platforms and warm rooms where a full-size fan is impractical. USB-C power makes it easy to run from a laptop, wall charger or compatible battery bank.
Decide whether you need a rechargeable model or one that operates only while connected. Verify airflow settings, noise, battery runtime if applicable, stand or clip options and the size of the fan guard. A low-output USB port may run a fan slowly or not at all; check the fan’s required input and the source’s available output. Keep blades clear and avoid placing a small fan where it can ingest dust or loose objects.

Start with the task, not the connector
For light repairs, compare the screwdriver’s bit coverage, torque and ergonomics. For travel power, compare output and portability. For desk expansion, decide whether a simple hub is enough or whether you need a powered dock with networking and display connections. The connector is the common thread, not the buying criterion.

- Identify the host port on your phone, tablet or computer and read what it supports: charging, USB data, video or a combination.
- Write down the accessory’s required input or output, including power-delivery wattage, data protocol and display standard.
- Match the display input, storage format, operating system and any required app.
- Confirm the cable, adapter or dock in between does not impose a lower limit.
- Plan for the actual environment: portability, heat, water exposure, mounting space and access to a wall outlet.
Separate reported specifications from guaranteed results
The Wowstick speed and bit count, Anker power-bank capacity, and HOTO bit count and recharge-time statement are published model details. They should be rechecked against the current listing. None of those figures predicts your exact runtime, charge count or repair outcome. USB-C gadgets reward this kind of specification matching because the same plug can conceal very different capabilities.
Common buying and setup mistakes
- Assuming every USB-C port drives a monitor: verify video support on the host before buying an adapter or dock.
- Using a phone-sized power bank for a laptop: compare the bank’s USB-C output with the laptop’s required input wattage.
- Expecting a hub to be a dock: a basic hub may provide USB-A data only; HDMI, Ethernet, card readers and charging pass-through require explicit support.
- Reading a USB 3.2 label as a guaranteed transfer speed: the device, host port, file size and protocol all affect performance.
- Skipping physical fit checks: monitor clamps, endoscope cables, flashlight controls and screwdriver bits must suit the space and fasteners you actually have.
- Ignoring power sharing: a dock or hub may divide available power among connected devices, while a hand warmer or fan may consume its battery faster when performing another function.
Which gadgets are most broadly useful?
A USB-C rechargeable screwdriver, a suitable power bank and a storage drive solve clear, recurring problems for many people. A hub or dock is valuable when your computer lacks ports. The display adapters, inspection camera, monitor light bar, flashlight, hand warmer and fan are more dependent on your equipment, workspace, climate and hobbies. Treat those as targeted tools, not mandatory additions to every USB-C kit.
