There is no single best Android phone. The major buying guides disagree: Tom’s Guide and Android Central put the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra first, while TechRadar’s June guide picks the OnePlus 15. The right choice depends on your budget, how much you care about cameras, how big a phone you’ll tolerate, and whether a foldable solves a real problem for you.
This guide is a buyer’s pick list built from published reviews and roundups from WIRED, Tom’s Guide, TechRadar, Android Central and Android Authority, not from our own lab testing. Battery figures are those outlets’ test results. Prices are US-oriented and move constantly, so confirm model, storage, bands and price with your retailer before buying.

Premium and flagship picks
1. Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra: best overall premium Android phone
WIRED calls it the crown jewel of Samsung’s S26 range and highlights its Privacy Display. Tom’s Guide names it best overall and lists a 6.9-inch 120 Hz display, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chip, a 200 MP main camera with two telephotos and an ultrawide, and storage up to 1 TB. It also reports a battery-test result in a 16:10 comparison.

#1 Best Overall
- YOUR CONTENT, SUPER SMOOTH: The ultra-clear 6.7" FHD+ Super AMOLED display of Galaxy A17 5G helps bring your content to life, whether you're scrolling through recipes or video chatting with loved ones.¹
- LIVE FAST. CHARGE FASTER: Focus more on the moment and less on your battery percentage with Galaxy A17 5G. Super Fast Charging powers up your battery so you can get back to life sooner.²
- MEMORIES MADE PICTURE PERFECT: Capture every angle in stunning clarity, from wide family photos to close-ups of friends, with the triple-lens camera on Galaxy A17 5G.
- NEED MORE STORAGE? WE HAVE YOU COVERED: With an improved 2TB of expandable storage, Galaxy A17 5G makes it easy to keep cherished photos, videos and important files readily accessible whenever you need them.³
- BUILT TO LAST: With an improved IP54 rating, Galaxy A17 5G is even more durable than before.⁴ It’s built to resist splashes and dust and comes with a stronger yet slimmer Gorilla Glass Victus front and Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer back.
2. Samsung Galaxy S26: best smaller flagship
WIRED lists the S26 with a 6.3-inch 120 Hz LTPO AMOLED display and seven years of updates. It is the sensible route to Samsung’s flagship experience without the Ultra’s size and price. It also carries a “Qi2 Ready” label, which means it needs a magnetic case to use Qi2 magnetic accessories properly.
Drawback: as the entry model it gives up the Ultra’s camera hardware and display extras.
3. Google Pixel 10 Pro: best camera-focused compact
Android Authority describes it as a compact 6.3-inch flagship with Tensor G5 and seven years of Android updates. Its camera set is a 50 MP primary, a 48 MP periscope telephoto and a 48 MP ultrawide, alongside Google’s photo features. The guide lists MSRP at $999, which is not necessarily today’s street price.
Rank #2
- Carrier: This phone is locked to Tracfone, which means this device can only be used on the Tracfone wireless network. Tracfone plan required, activating is easy, just 3 steps.
- DISPLAY: Immersive viewing on a 6.7-inch super-bright 120Hz display with powerful stereo speakers and Bass Boost for cinematic entertainment.
- CAMERA SYSTEM: Advanced 50MP Quad Pixel camera captures sharp, detailed photos and videos in any lighting condition
- PERFORMANCE: Lightning-fast 5G connectivity paired with a powerful processor and RAM Boost for smooth multitasking.
- BATTERY LIFE: Long-lasting 5000mAh battery with TurboPower charging technology delivers hours of power in minutes.
Drawbacks: the US version has no physical SIM slot, per that guide. The Pixel 11 family has also arrived (WIRED notes native Qi2 on those models), so compare current Pixel 10 Pro discounts against the newer lineup. A 6.3-inch screen here and on the S26 does not make the two feel alike in hand or in software.
4. OnePlus 15: best for battery, charging and gaming
TechRadar’s June guide names it best overall, citing battery life, the interface and IP69 certification. Android Central later still recommends it to power users for durability, charging and gaming.
Drawbacks: Android Central says the software can be buggy and reports that OnePlus is leaving the US market soon. If you are in the US, check the company’s current status and warranty and support terms before paying flagship money. Outside the US this concern may not apply.

Midrange and budget picks
5. Google Pixel 10a: best value Pixel
TechRadar names it its budget and value recommendation at $499 / £499 / AU$849 on its guide page. Those are that guide’s listed prices, so check current local pricing and stock. It suits buyers who want Google’s software and camera approach without paying Pro money.
6. Samsung Galaxy A57: best Samsung midrange
Tom’s Guide picks it as its Samsung value phone, praising the large screen and battery. In its battery test it lasted 11 hours 13 minutes, which is that outlet’s result under its own protocol. Samsung’s commitment is four Android upgrades and six years of security updates, a strong promise at this price.
7. CMF Phone 2 Pro: best cheap Android
Android Central lists it as a cheap option. The evidence here is limited to that recommendation, so check specs, band support for your carrier and local availability before ordering, especially in the US.
Rank #4
- PRIVACY DISPLAY: Automatically hide your screen from those beside you. The built-in privacy display can be preset¹ to turn on when receiving notifications, typing passwords, or using specific apps
- TYPE IT IN. TRANSFORM IT FAST: Enhance any shot in seconds on your smartphone by using Photo Assist² with Galaxy AI.³ Add objects, restore details, or apply new styles by simply typing or tapping
- NIGHTS, CAPTURED CLEARLY: From gigs to city lights, record and capture moments after dark with clarity using Nightography so your photos and videos stay crisp and clear on your Samsung Galaxy
- MAKE IT. EDIT IT. SHARE IT: Turn everyday moments into something personal with creative tools built right into your mobile phone, whether it’s a special contact photo, custom wallpaper, an invitation or more⁴
- HELP THAT KEEPS UP: Stay in the moment while Now Nudge with Galaxy AI helps you respond faster and stay organized with smart suggestions⁵ that appear exactly when you need them on your phone
8. OnePlus 13R: best older-flagship-style midrange
Android Central lists it as a midrange pick. The same OnePlus caveat about US market status applies, so confirm warranty and support where you live.
9. Samsung Galaxy A17 5G: best under $200
Android Authority’s guide calls the A17 5G a sub-$200 option. That page labels the phone inconsistently as both A16 and A17, so verify the exact model, specs and price on the retailer listing and don’t rely on the guide’s figures.

Foldables and alternatives
10. Motorola Razr Ultra: best flip foldable
Android Authority describes a premium flip with a 7-inch folding display, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB base storage and a 4,700 mAh battery. It flags the cost, a limited software-update commitment and weaker long-range zoom. Choose it for pocketability and style, not for photography or long-term support.
Best Value
- Carrier: This phone is locked to Tracfone, which means this device can only be used on the Tracfone wireless network. Activating is easy, just 3 steps.
- ACTIVATION Promotion: Includes 1500 min, 1500 texts & 1500 MB Data + add more as you need it
- CAMERA SYSTEM: 50MP Quad Pixel camera. Capture sharper, more vibrant photos day or night with 4x the light sensitivity.
- PERFORMANCE: Blazing-fast Qualcomm performance. Get the speed you need for great entertainment with a Snapdragon 680 processor and 4GB of RAM.
- 64GB built-in storage. Get plenty of room for photos, movies, songs, and apps. Made for US
11. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8: best book-style foldable
Tom’s Guide’s review reports a 4,800 mAh battery, 45 W charging, IP48 water and dust resistance (not IP68) and no telephoto lens. Its 5G web-browsing test ran 12 hours 19 minutes, a single outlet’s result that does not predict your own day. The reviewer says: “The Fold 8 is a blast for playing games on the go.”
Drawbacks: the missing telephoto and the dust-ingress rating mean it suits multitaskers and big-screen users more than camera buyers or people who use phones outdoors.
12. Fairphone (Gen. 6+): the repair-minded alternative
WIRED’s September roundup lists it among its alternatives. Our evidence goes no further than that listing, so check specs, price, band support and sales availability in your country. It is aimed at buyers who care more about repairability than benchmark scores. WIRED also lists the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, Galaxy S26 FE and Motorola Edge 2026 as alternatives worth a look.

How to choose between them
- Total price and storage: compare the exact storage tier, not the headline price.
- Size: 6.3 inches (S26, Pixel 10 Pro) versus 6.9 inches (S26 Ultra) changes how you live with the phone.
- Telephoto: the S26 Ultra and Pixel 10 Pro have true telephoto lenses; the Fold8 does not.
- Software support: seven years is reported for the S26 and Pixel 10 Pro, and four upgrades plus six years of security updates for the A57. Terms differ by brand and region, so confirm them on the maker’s page.
- Carrier bands and warranty: check these for your country, particularly for OnePlus, CMF and Fairphone.
- For foldables: weigh hinge and inner-screen durability, dust resistance, repair cost and whether you will really use the multitasking.
The Bottom Line
For most people with a flagship budget, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is the safest all-round pick, with the Pixel 10 Pro for camera-first buyers who want something smaller. The Pixel 10a or Galaxy A57 is the better buy below that. Choose a foldable only if the format fits how you use a phone.
