Verdict: The 10Gtek I350-GE-4T-X4 is a sensible buy when you need four reliable copper 1GbE links in a firewall, router, NAS, server, or virtualization host and do not need 10GbE. ServeTheHome reached the 1Gbps range on all four ports, and the card’s Intel i350-AM4 controller, PCIe 2.1 x4 interface, low-profile bracket, and compact design make it easy to deploy in small systems. Expect mature, straightforward hardware rather than exceptional features, and plan to identify the physical port mapping after installation.
What the 10Gtek I350-GE-4T-X4 is
The I350-GE-4T-X4 is a four-port RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet adapter built around Intel’s i350-AM4 controller. 10Gtek lists it as compatible with the Intel I350-T4 and supplies both full-height and low-profile brackets. The card uses four PCIe lanes and is intended for systems that need several independent 1GbE interfaces from one expansion slot.
Intel describes the I350 as a non-bridged PCIe Gen2 quad-port 1GbE controller compliant with IEEE 802.3, 802.3u, and 802.3ab. That architecture is useful for firewalls, routing, virtualization, storage networks, and separate management or LAN segments because each port is exposed as an independent adapter.

Performance: what the review actually showed
In ServeTheHome’s hands-on testing, iperf3 achieved speeds in the 1Gbps range on all four ports. That demonstrates that the adapter can deliver expected Gigabit throughput across its port set in the tested system; it is not a promise that every workload or host will reach the same result. CPU load, PCIe topology, cabling, switch capacity, drivers, and the traffic pattern can all affect throughput.

All four interfaces appeared in the operating system after installation. The main usability problem was port identification: when the far-end port was connected, the operating-system enumeration did not correspond neatly to the physical order printed on the card. For a firewall or router, label each cable and verify the mapping before assigning WAN, LAN, or management roles.
ServeTheHome characterized the implementation as a mature, “boring” design and reported that the card arrived and worked as expected. Its purchase price during testing was $55–60 in February 2026. The manufacturer page displayed $68.99 when accessed; both figures are time-sensitive and may change with stock, seller, or region.

Compatibility with pfSense, OPNsense, Linux, and Windows
The i350 is a long-established server controller, so its design is a strong fit for operating systems that use standard Intel Ethernet drivers. The supplied material does not include independent benchmark results for each operating system, however, so compatibility should be confirmed against the release and hardware platform you plan to deploy.

pfSense and OPNsense
For a firewall, the four ports can provide separate WAN, LAN, DMZ, and management links from one slot. Install the card, boot the firewall, record the interface names, then connect one cable at a time to match software interfaces to the physical jacks. Do not assume the operating system’s numbering follows left-to-right port order.
Linux
Linux can expose each physical port as a separate network interface. Persistent naming rules, NetworkManager profiles, systemd-networkd files, bridges, bonds, VLANs, and virtual-machine assignments should be built only after you have verified which interface maps to each jack.

Windows
Windows will normally present multiple Ethernet adapters after the driver is installed. Rename them immediately (for example, LAN1 through LAN4) and document the MAC address and physical-port mapping before configuring teaming, Hyper-V virtual switches, or static addresses.

- Slot: Reserve a PCIe slot with at least four available lanes. The card can operate in physically larger x8 or x16 slots, but check the motherboard’s lane sharing and firmware documentation.
- Chassis: Use the included low-profile bracket for slim or short-depth systems; use the full-height bracket for standard server cases.
- Clearance: Check neighboring-slot, heatsink, drive-cage, and airflow clearance. The card is compact, but four network connectors still need rear-panel space.
- Cabling: Use CAT5e or better for Gigabit links and verify that the switch-side ports are also configured for the intended speed and duplex.
- Power and thermals: The cited specification gives 5.0 W typical copper consumption. No independent long-term thermal, acoustics, or failure-rate data was published in the reviewed material.
Buying decision: when it makes sense
| Requirement | How this card fits | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Four copper 1GbE links | Direct fit; four independent RJ-45 ports | Switch ports, cables, and interface mapping |
| Small server or firewall | Low-profile bracket and compact card help | Bracket, slot clearance, and lane allocation |
| 10GbE networking | Not suitable; this is a 1GbE adapter | Choose a 10GbE NIC instead |
| Two-port requirement | Works, but leaves two ports unused | Compare the price and power of a two-port model |
| Lowest acquisition cost | New pricing was $55–60 in the review and $68.99 on 10Gtek’s accessed listing | Compare current new and used prices and seller reputation |
| Intel I350-T4 alternative | 10Gtek identifies an Intel I350-AM4 controller and I350-T4 compatibility | Confirm the exact controller, warranty, bracket, and return policy |
The strongest reason to choose it is port density: four Gigabit connections in one PCIe slot without paying for 10GbE capability you will not use. A two-port adapter may be better for a simple workstation or small firewall, while a 10GbE card is the appropriate upgrade when aggregate traffic or storage links exceed Gigabit limits.
Installation and port-mapping checklist
- Shut down the system, install the correct bracket, and seat the card in a compatible PCIe slot.
- Boot the operating system and confirm that four Ethernet interfaces are detected.
- Update or select the platform’s supported Intel network driver package.
- Connect one known-good cable and switch port at a time; record the interface name, MAC address, and physical jack.
- Set link speed, VLANs, bridges, firewall zones, or virtual switches only after the mapping is documented.
- Run an iperf3 test or an equivalent transfer test on each port and investigate any result well below the expected 1Gbps range.
Limitations to keep in mind
- The published performance evidence is a single hands-on review, not a universal benchmark guarantee.
- No independent multi-OS benchmark set, acoustic measurement, long-term reliability study, or detailed thermal test was provided.
- Physical port order may not match software enumeration, creating avoidable configuration mistakes.
- Pricing and inventory are volatile, and the displayed manufacturer price may differ from the review-period purchase price.
Bottom line
Buy the 10Gtek I350-GE-4T-X4 when you need four copper Gigabit interfaces, a low-profile option, and a well-established Intel i350-AM4 design. Its reviewed 1Gbps-range performance on all four ports and modest 5.0 W typical copper power make it a practical server and firewall adapter. Verify the exact controller, bracket, PCIe slot, cabling, current price, and interface-to-jack mapping before deployment.
