Qualcomm describes the standard chip as a 2nm platform with a custom Oryon CPU, Adreno GPU and Hexagon NPU. Its performance figures are Qualcomm’s comparisons with the previous generation—not independent test results or guarantees of how a particular phone will perform.
10 facts about the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6
1. It is the standard model, not the Extreme edition
Qualcomm announced two premium mobile platforms on September 22, 2026: the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the higher-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. They are separate products. Features or claims associated with the Extreme edition should not be assumed to apply to the standard Gen 6.

2. Qualcomm says it is built on a 2nm process
Qualcomm’s launch announcement identifies the standard Gen 6 as a 2nm platform. It combines a custom Oryon CPU, a rearchitected Adreno GPU and a Hexagon NPU. These are platform specifications from Qualcomm, not independent teardowns or measurements.
3. Two prime CPU cores are specified to reach up to 5 GHz
Qualcomm’s product specifications list two prime CPU cores with a maximum clock speed of up to 5 GHz. That is a specified peak, not a promise that a phone will sustain that speed during extended workloads; device cooling and software configuration affect operation.

4. Qualcomm claims a 10% CPU performance improvement
Compared with the previous generation, Qualcomm claims 10% better CPU performance for the Gen 6. The company also claims 37% better CPU power efficiency against that generation. These are manufacturer comparisons; the cited announcement and product specifications do not establish independent benchmark results or equivalent gains in every phone.
5. The claimed GPU gains are 35% in performance and 40% in efficiency
The platform uses an Adreno GPU. Qualcomm claims a 35% GPU performance increase and a 40% GPU efficiency improvement versus the previous generation. These figures do not establish sustained gaming performance: a phone’s thermal design, power limits, display and game support all matter.
6. The Hexagon NPU is claimed to be 14% faster
Qualcomm claims a 14% Hexagon NPU performance enhancement over the previous generation. It says the Qualcomm AI Engine supports multi-step agentic AI experiences, and describes on-device learning through the Sensing Hub. Whether a phone offers particular AI features depends on the manufacturer’s hardware and software, the region, and any required services.

- Durable, premium build: Titanium‑frame body, protected by Corning Gorilla Armor 2 glass, with IP68 dust/water resistance, ultrasonic in‑display fingerprint sensor, modern connectivity (5G, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth, UWB, USB‑C), and long‑term software support (Android 15 / One UI 7, promised 7 major OS/security updates).
7. Camera and gaming features still depend on the phone
Qualcomm names Intelligent Pixel Control, Elite Color Engine and Motion Intelligence among the platform’s camera-related tools. Its Snapdragon Elite Gaming features include Game Quick Touch 3.0. These platform capabilities do not ensure identical photos or gaming behavior across devices: camera sensors, OEM image processing, thermal design and individual game support influence the result.
8. Connectivity figures are theoretical platform peaks
Qualcomm specifies an X105 5G Modem-RF System with peak speeds of up to 14.8 Gbps for downloads and 4.2 Gbps for uploads, and FastConnect 8800 with peak Wi-Fi speeds of up to 11.65 Gbps. These are vendor-specified maxima, not expected everyday speeds. Actual rates depend on the network, spectrum, location and device implementation. Qualcomm’s product page lists Wi-Fi 8, Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 6 support.
9. Qualcomm has named phone partners, not confirmed retail models
Qualcomm says Gen 6-powered flagship smartphones will debut from HONOR, iQOO, Motorola, OnePlus, OPPO, REDMI, RedMagic, vivo and Xiaomi. Its September 22 announcement does not identify specific phone models or region-specific sale dates, so a partner name alone does not confirm that a particular Gen 6 phone is available to buy.

10. A finished phone—not the chip announcement—is what buyers should compare
Qualcomm’s launch announcement and product specifications do not establish independent benchmark or hands-on results for a finished Gen 6 phone. When specific devices are announced, compare the exact model and sales region, sustained performance and thermals, battery behavior, camera hardware and tuning, cellular bands and Wi-Fi implementation, supported AI features, software update policy and price. Those device-level details determine how the platform translates into a phone experience.
What the announced figures can—and cannot—tell you
Qualcomm’s specifications describe the platform and its stated improvements over the previous generation. They provide a basis for understanding the chip’s intended capabilities, but not a substitute for tests of retail phones. In particular, peak clocks and connectivity rates are not the same as sustained or typical real-world results, and performance claims do not settle battery life or thermal behavior for an individual model.
