007 First Light Adds a Performance Mode on Xbox Series S, but 60FPS Isn’t Locked

007 First Light now has a Performance mode on Xbox Series S, according to a first-look report from Pure Xbox. The outlet estimates that its footage runs around 50–60 frames per second for most of the time, with visibly reduced graphical settings. That is an observed range, not a guarantee of locked 60FPS throughout the game.

What the new Series S mode changes

Pure Xbox reports that a Performance preset has appeared alongside Quality mode on Series S. In its first look, the outlet describes the graphics in Performance mode as “pretty low” and says the frame rate seems to hover around 50–60FPS for most of the footage. The report does not provide a resolution, identify which settings were reduced, or present a full-game performance test.

The practical choice is between smoother motion and the higher visual settings of Quality mode. The available report does not establish exactly how much image detail changes between the presets, so players should treat the comparison as a broad trade-off rather than a quantified graphics comparison.

What VRR may mean for play

Pure Xbox says a display with variable refresh rate (VRR) would be ideal for the mode. VRR can help a compatible display adapt its refresh timing to changing frame rates; it does not make the game’s frame rate constant. Whether that matters to you depends on your display and how noticeable frame-rate variation is in your play.

Why this is a change from launch

At launch, Series S coverage described the game as running at 30FPS without an alternate mode. In May 2026, Pure Xbox summarized Digital Foundry’s technical coverage as saying that Series X offered 30FPS and 60FPS gameplay modes, while Series S had only 30FPS. That earlier analysis, as relayed by Pure Xbox, said IO Interactive prioritized visual systems such as lighting and volumetrics within Series S memory and GPU limits rather than removing them to pursue 60FPS.

The new Performance option marks a change to that launch-era mode setup. The October first-look report does not explain how the change was achieved or say which visual features were adjusted, so the earlier technical explanation should not be treated as the developer’s rationale for the new preset.

When the mode appeared—and what remains unknown

Pure Xbox says the Series S option was pushed in recent days. It notes that the previous week’s free DLC patch notes referred to an update for Series X and were worded incorrectly, which may help explain why the Series S change initially went unnoticed. The report does not name a patch number or provide an official developer explanation.
