There is no documented one-click WordPress-to-Osclass importer. A reliable move is a planned data migration: inventory WordPress, map its content to Osclass listings and taxonomies, import through a script or compatible extension, then rebuild presentation, moderation, search, SEO, and hosting settings on a staging site before switching the live domain.
What changes when WordPress becomes an Osclass site?
WordPress is a general publishing CMS, while Osclass is a self-hosted classifieds and marketplace platform. The Osclass project describes the distinction as: “Osclass is for classifieds what WordPress is for publishing.” That difference determines the migration design.
A WordPress post normally becomes an Osclass listing only when it represents an item, service, or offer. Pages such as About, Terms, and Contact usually need to be recreated as static pages or theme content. A blog post, custom post type, or product may need a different destination—or may not belong in the classifieds database at all.
Plan the move as a content-model conversion rather than a database copy. Preserve only data that has a clear destination, and document every field that is intentionally omitted or transformed.

Inventory the WordPress site before exporting
Make a complete inventory while the existing site is still available. Include:
- Posts, pages, and every custom post type
- Categories, tags, custom taxonomies, and parent-child relationships
- User accounts, roles, authors, and ownership relationships
- Media files, attachment metadata, image sizes, and references embedded in content
- Comments and moderation status
- Custom fields, post metadata, prices, condition fields, coordinates, and other structured values
- Permalinks, canonical URLs, XML sitemaps, and important inbound URLs
- WordPress plugins that provide payments, forms, search, memberships, moderation, email, or SEO
Export record counts for each group. Those counts become acceptance tests after import; a migration is not complete merely because the new site loads.
Map WordPress data to Osclass fields
Create a field-mapping document before writing an importer. Include the source field, destination field, transformation rule, and treatment for blank or invalid values.
| WordPress data | Typical Osclass destination | Migration decision |
|---|---|---|
| Posts representing items, services, or offers | Listings | Map title, description, owner, status, category, location, price, images, and dates. |
| Pages | Static pages or theme content | Recreate informational pages separately; do not force them into listings. |
| Custom post types | Listings, static content, or omitted records | Classify each type according to its actual purpose. |
| Categories and custom taxonomies | Listing categories and subcategories | Build a deterministic parent-child mapping and resolve duplicate names. |
| Tags | Custom listing fields or searchable text | Choose whether tags should become fields, keywords, or be discarded. |
| Authors and users | Osclass users and listing ownership | Preserve ownership only after testing account identity and permissions. |
| Attachment and inline images | Listing images and theme media | Download, associate, resize as required, and verify every reference. |
| Comments | Moderation notes, listing content, or omitted data | Define a policy because comment discussions do not automatically become marketplace interactions. |
| Custom fields and post metadata | Osclass custom fields or listing attributes | Normalize data types and units before import. |
| Permalinks and canonical URLs | Osclass listing/category URLs plus redirects | Export the old-to-new URL map and retain it for cutover. |
Do not silently merge categories or users. Record the rule used for every collision so that a failed import can be repeated consistently.

Prepare hosting and a staging Osclass installation
Osclass is self-hosted. The project repository lists PHP 7.2 or higher, MySQL or MariaDB, MySQLi, GD, cURL, and a web server with URL rewriting. Its installation guide separately describes PHP 7.4 or newer and optional ImageMagick. Treat the requirements for the exact release you deploy as authoritative, and check every theme and plugin for compatibility before importing data.
- Create a separate database and hostname or subdirectory for staging.
- Install the target Osclass release with the browser installer.
- Record the PHP version, database engine and version, enabled extensions, web-server rewrite configuration, and filesystem permissions.
- Configure a backup routine for both the database and uploaded files.
- Install only the themes, language packs, location packs, and extensions needed for the migration test.
- Restrict staging access so imported personal data is not publicly exposed.
The current repository listing identifies Osclass 8.3.1 as a stable release, but release and compatibility information can change. Confirm the version and its requirements at deployment time rather than assuming that a plugin built for another release will work.
Build the export and import pipeline
Official Osclass materials document extension hooks and integration/importer capabilities, but they do not document a one-click WordPress importer. In practice, use a custom script, an integration, or a suitable Osclass extension that writes records through supported interfaces.
- Export a controlled sample. Start with a small set containing multiple categories, users, images, empty fields, non-ASCII text, and records in different statuses.
- Normalize values. Convert dates, prices, currencies, location names, HTML, character encoding, and boolean values to the format expected by the destination.
- Create destination lookups. Build maps for WordPress IDs to Osclass user IDs, category IDs, location IDs, listing IDs, and media paths.
- Import dependencies first. Create users, categories, locations, and custom fields before listings that refer to them.
- Import listings and ownership. Assign each listing to its mapped owner, preserve the intended publication or moderation state, and log rejected rows.
- Transfer media. Copy files, attach them to the correct listing, and check that generated thumbnails and permissions work.
- Make the process repeatable. Use source IDs, transaction or checkpoint logging, and an error report so that you can rerun a failed batch without creating duplicates.
- Compare counts. Reconcile source and destination totals by category, status, user, and media association before expanding the import.
Keep the staging database disposable until the sample import passes. A repeatable process is safer than editing hundreds of records manually after a partial failure.

Handle users, images, and URLs deliberately
Users and ownership
Decide which WordPress accounts should become Osclass users and which should be archived. Verify usernames, email addresses, roles, listing ownership, and permissions in staging. Test registration, sign-in, password recovery, profile editing, and listing submission with representative accounts before announcing the new site.
Images and attachments
WordPress media can be attached to posts, referenced in HTML, or left unused. Match each image to its destination listing, preserve the intended order where it matters, and check file type, dimensions, generated thumbnails, and broken inline references. Include orphaned or missing files in the exception report instead of claiming that the media transfer succeeded.
Permalinks and redirects
Export high-value WordPress URLs and create an old-to-new map for listings, categories, and pages that have real replacements. Configure permanent redirects at the web-server or application layer, update canonical URLs and sitemaps, and test representative old links. A redirect target should be the closest live Osclass page—not a generic homepage unless no equivalent exists.
Recreate marketplace behavior after the data import
Imported records do not recreate the WordPress site’s user experience or business rules. Configure these areas independently:
- Theme: Rebuild templates, navigation, listing cards, detail pages, forms, responsive behavior, and branding for Osclass’s listing model.
- Moderation: Set publication states, approval workflows, reporting, spam controls, and administrator permissions.
- Search and filters: Confirm that category, location, price, and custom-field filters use the normalized values from the mapping.
- Locations: Enter locations manually or import them from CSV, then check country, region, city, and coordinate behavior.
- Languages and currencies: Configure language packs and currencies in administration and verify formatting in listings and forms.
- Payments and notifications: Recreate only the payment, email, contact, and alert functions you actually need; WordPress plugin settings do not carry over automatically.
- SEO: Rebuild metadata, indexation rules, sitemaps, structured content where supported, and redirect rules rather than copying plugin configuration files.
Osclass plugins can be installed from the backoffice Market or uploaded to /oc-content/plugins/. The Market also provides themes, language packs, and location packs, with version-compatibility information that should be checked before activation.
Validate the staging site before cutover
Use a written acceptance checklist, not a visual spot check.
- Source and destination counts reconcile by content type, category, status, user, and image association.
- Every imported listing has the correct owner, category, location, title, description, price, status, and custom fields.
- Representative users can sign in, recover access, edit profiles, and view or manage their own listings.
- Images load on listing pages, thumbnails generate correctly, and missing files are documented.
- Search, category navigation, location filters, pagination, sorting, and empty-result states behave as expected.
- Forms, moderation, email delivery, contact flows, and any payment steps have been tested.
- Old URLs return the intended redirect, while new URLs have valid canonicals and are not blocked accidentally.
- Backups restore successfully, and the rollback procedure is written down.
- Staging credentials, debug settings, sample data, and import logs will not leak into production.
Freeze WordPress changes for the final export, run the repeatable import, perform a final delta check, switch DNS or the web-server route, and monitor errors and redirects immediately after launch. Keep the original WordPress installation read-only until the new site has passed its agreed verification period.

| Decision area | WordPress | Osclass | Migration implication |
|---|---|---|---|
| Content model | Publishing-oriented posts, pages, and custom types | Listings, categories, locations, users, and marketplace fields | Requires explicit field and taxonomy mapping. |
| Users and media | Authors, roles, and a general media library | Marketplace users, listing ownership, and listing images | Ownership and attachment relationships must be rebuilt and tested. |
| Extensibility | Plugins and theme hooks | Plugins, themes, and extension hooks | Recreate behavior with Osclass-compatible extensions; WordPress plugins are not portable. |
| Hosting | Varies by WordPress deployment | Self-hosted PHP with MySQL or MariaDB, required extensions, and URL rewriting | Provision and verify the Osclass stack before importing. |
| Localization | Handled through WordPress core, themes, and plugins | Language, currency, and location packs configured in administration | Reconfigure these settings and validate localized output. |
| SEO and URLs | Existing permalinks and SEO settings | New listing and category URL structure | Maintain an explicit redirect and metadata plan. |
| Upgrade compatibility | Depends on the WordPress core, theme, and plugin set | Depends on the Osclass release and extension compatibility | Test upgrades in staging before applying them to the migrated site. |
Common migration failure points
Listings import but categories are wrong
Usually the source-to-destination category lookup was based only on a name. Use the full hierarchy and a stable source ID, then review collisions and renamed categories.
Best Value
Images exist on disk but not on listings
Check the attachment-to-record map, file permissions, generated thumbnails, and any URL or path conversion performed by the importer. Reprocess only the failed media associations after identifying the cause.
Users exist but ownership is incorrect
Stop the import, preserve the source IDs in the log, correct the user lookup, and rerun the affected listing batch. Do not repair ownership by hand without recording the rule used.
Search results omit imported records
Inspect listing status, category and location IDs, custom-field values, and any indexing or cache process required by the chosen Osclass release or extension.
Old links return 404 errors
Compare the redirect map with the actual Osclass URL pattern, check rewrite rules, and test URLs from the pre-migration inventory rather than guessing replacement paths.

When a WordPress-to-Osclass move is a good fit
Osclass is a sensible destination when the site’s primary job is user-submitted classified listings with categories, locations, search, moderation, and marketplace-oriented extensions. Keeping WordPress may be simpler when the core product remains editorial publishing, complex page layouts, or a large plugin ecosystem that has no Osclass equivalent. The deciding test is whether the new listing model reduces custom work after migration rather than merely changing the software underneath existing content.
