PowerChute Network Shutdown on Windows 11: Compatibility and Installation Guide

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Yes. Schneider Electric lists PowerChute Network Shutdown (PCNS) v5.2 for 64-bit Windows 11. The supported-edition list includes Pro, Enterprise, Enterprise LTSC 2024, IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024, Pro for Workstations, Education, and Pro Education. PCNS coordinates an orderly shutdown when a networked UPS reaches critical conditions, but it must communicate with a compatible UPS Network Management Card (NMC).

What Windows 11 support means

The current Windows x64 release is PCNS v5.2, dated May 9, 2025. Schneider Electric lists Windows 11 alongside Windows 10, supported Windows Server environments, and virtualization platforms. The Windows application is configured through a browser and supports single, redundant, and parallel UPS arrangements.

Schneider Electric’s compatibility FAQ, updated September 17, 2026, says PCNS supports 64-bit operating systems only. It also lists AdoptOpenJDK 21.0.4 as bundled, supports OpenJDK 21, and identifies Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Firefox as supported browsers. No exact Windows 11 build or cumulative-update boundary is specified in the published material.

Supported Windows 11 editions

Edition Status
Windows 11 Pro Supported
Windows 11 Enterprise Supported
Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC 2024 Supported
Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 Supported
Windows 11 Pro for Workstations Supported
Windows 11 Education Supported
Windows 11 Pro Education Supported

PCNS v4.3 and later cannot be installed on 32-bit systems, so verify that Windows 11 itself is 64-bit before downloading the installer.

What you need before installing

  • A 64-bit Windows 11 installation using one of the listed editions.
  • The Windows x64 PCNS v5.2 package from Schneider Electric.
  • A UPS arrangement supported by PCNS: single, redundant, or parallel.
  • A compatible UPS Network Management Card with a reachable IP address.
  • The NMC username and authentication phrase, matching the values configured for PowerChute on the card.
  • A supported browser: Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Firefox.

Do not assume that every UPS or NMC works with every PCNS deployment. Check the current Schneider Electric compatibility documentation for the precise UPS and card models before purchasing hardware or planning a production installation. The commonly referenced NMC models AP9630, AP9631, AP9635, AP9640, AP9641, and AP9644 appear in Schneider Electric’s credential guidance, but that list is not a complete compatibility matrix.

How to install PCNS on Windows 11

  1. Verify the operating system. Confirm the Windows edition is listed above and that the installation is 64-bit.
  2. Download and extract the package. Obtain the Windows x64 PCNS package, extract it, and run Setup-x64.
  3. Choose the installation mode. For an ordinary Windows PC, select Do not enable Virtualization Support. Enabling Hyper-V support changes the licensing requirement; the documented standard option does not require that virtualization license.
  4. Create web-interface credentials. Set the username and password that will protect the PCNS browser interface.
  5. Allow the required ports. Approve the installer’s request to open its required firewall ports. If those ports are blocked, the web UI may be unreachable and PCNS may be unable to communicate with the UPS.
  6. Select the network interface. If the computer has multiple IP addresses or adapters, choose the interface PCNS should use to reach the NMC.
  7. Specify the UPS topology. Select whether the installation uses a single, redundant, or parallel UPS arrangement.
  8. Register the NMC. Enter the card’s IP address and authentication settings. Schneider Electric’s walkthrough recommends HTTPS on port 443.
  9. Handle the certificate prompt. An NMC may present a self-signed certificate. Follow the wizard’s verification or acceptance process, or deploy a certificate signed by a trusted certificate authority when your organization requires it.
  10. Confirm registration. Finish the wizard and verify that PCNS shows a connected NMC and the expected UPS configuration in its browser interface.

Does PCNS require an APC Network Management Card?

PCNS is designed for network-based UPS monitoring, so the documented Windows setup connects it to a UPS Network Management Card by IP address. A compatible card and matching credentials are therefore a practical prerequisite for this deployment. Verify the exact UPS/NMC combination in Schneider Electric’s current model documentation; the available compatibility FAQ does not provide a complete hardware matrix.

Credentials must match

The PowerChute username and authentication phrase must match the corresponding PowerChute parameters on the NMC. A mismatch can prevent registration even when the card’s IP address is correct. Also check that the card’s HTTP or HTTPS access is enabled and that the selected protocol and port match the wizard settings.

Choosing a deployment configuration

Decision Use when Important consequence
Standard Windows installation PCNS runs directly on a Windows 11 computer Select “Do not enable Virtualization Support”; the documented standard option avoids the Hyper-V license requirement.

Troubleshooting Windows 11 installations

The installer will not run or rejects the computer

  • Confirm that Windows 11 is 64-bit; 32-bit operating systems are unsupported.
  • Check that the downloaded package is the Windows x64 release.
  • Verify that the Windows edition appears in Schneider Electric’s current supported-edition list.

The browser cannot open the PCNS interface

  • Confirm that you allowed the installer to open its required ports.
  • Check that you are browsing to the computer’s correct address and using a supported browser.
  • If the computer has several adapters, verify that the interface selected during setup is the reachable one.

PCNS cannot contact or register with the UPS

  • Verify the NMC IP address and network routing.
  • Compare the PCNS username and authentication phrase with the NMC’s PowerChute parameters.
  • Check that HTTP/HTTPS access is enabled on the card.
  • Use the recommended HTTPS port 443 unless your approved configuration specifies another supported setting.

A certificate warning appears

The walkthrough documents a self-signed-certificate warning and a verification or acceptance path. For environments with stricter trust requirements, replace the certificate with one signed by a trusted certificate authority and then reconnect.

Bottom line for Windows 11 users

PCNS v5.2 is an officially supported choice for listed 64-bit Windows 11 editions. The installation is straightforward when the computer can reach a compatible NMC, the NMC credentials match, and the installer’s ports are permitted. Hardware compatibility remains model-specific, so verify the exact UPS and NMC combination before deployment.
