HGST 于 2014 年 8 月 4 日宣布推出 FlashMAX III PCIe 企业级闪存卡和 ServerCache 4.0 服务器端缓存软件。这次发布的重点不是把容量做到最大，而是用 PCIe 直连闪存降低服务器随机 I/O 延迟，并让现有 SAN 或 DAS 继续承担主要存储职责。FlashMAX III 当时仍在部分 OEM 认证阶段；ServerCache 4.0 的 VMware 支持也尚未在发布时提供，因此它更适合作为一项历史技术发布来理解，而不是 2026 年的现成采购建议。
HGST 发布了哪两项产品
FlashMAX III：服务器内部的 PCIe 闪存卡
FlashMAX III 是半高半长（HHHL）PCIe 3.0 x8 企业级闪存加速卡，面向高并发数据库、SQL Server、数据仓库、大数据、云基础设施和视频后期制作等工作负载。它直接插入服务器 PCIe 插槽，不是通过 SATA 或 SAS 控制器连接的普通固态硬盘。

ServerCache 4.0：把 SSD 作为服务器端缓存
ServerCache 4.0 是独立软件，可在服务器中加入本地 SSD，识别高访问频率的数据并缓存到闪存。应用仍访问原有 SAN 或 DAS，热点数据则优先从本地 SSD 返回，因此不必把整个环境迁移到全闪存阵列。媒体报道将其描述为驱动器无关的软件设计，可使用其他厂商的闪存，但这不等于每种 SSD、固件和耐久度组合都经过验证。相关技术源自 HGST 母公司 Western Digital 于 2013 年收购的 VeloBit。Western Digital 收购 VeloBit 的公告。

容量、接口、吞吐、功耗和操作系统列表可在FlashMAX III 数据表中查到。上述 IOPS 是 HGST 发布资料或厂商基准中的峰值，资料没有为所有数字统一说明型号、队列深度和持续时间，不能当作任何数据库的固定性能。
相比 FlashMAX II，升级重点是什么

因此，FlashMAX III 并非全面超越：它通过 PCIe 3.0 和更高随机 I/O 强化低延迟场景，却牺牲了最高容量，写入和耐久度也未必更好。The Register 的同期报道特别指出了这一取舍。
ServerCache 4.0 如何接入现有存储
- 在服务器安装本地 SSD，例如 FlashMAX III 或其他符合要求的闪存。
- 缓存软件根据访问频率把热点数据复制到本地 SSD。
- 读取命中时由服务器端闪存响应，未命中数据仍从 SAN 或 DAS 获取。
- 根据策略处理写入缓存，并在故障或重启后重新预热缓存。
读缓存通常较容易部署；写回缓存则必须确认断电保护、元数据保存、一致性和故障恢复。缓存命中率低、工作集变化快时，收益可能有限；本地缓存也不会自动解决后端容量、网络、CPU 或数据库锁竞争问题。多服务器环境还需单独设计一致性和高可用机制，不能把单机缓存当作共享缓存。

兼容性边界：硬件支持不等于软件支持
发布报道称 ServerCache 4.0 支持 Windows Server 和 Linux，可用于 SAN 与 DAS，但发布时没有 VMware 支持，HGST 只表示未来可能加入。另一方面，后续 FlashMAX III 数据表列出 Windows Server 2008 R2/2012、多个 Red Hat、SUSE、CentOS、Oracle Linux、Debian、Ubuntu、Fedora、OpenSUSE，以及 VMware ESXi 5.x。ESXi 5.x 是硬件资料中的平台列表，不代表 ServerCache 4.0 在发布日已经支持 VMware。日本版规格存档见GDM 报道。

价格、供货与真实性能应怎样理解
- FlashMAX III 预计于 2014 年第三季度供货，当时仍在部分 OEM 认证中。
- HGST 没有公布 FlashMAX III 的具体售价，只宣称其价格／性能比将比 FlashMAX II 提高约一倍；这是厂商定位表述，不是独立测试结论。
- ServerCache 4.0 提供 30 天试用，商业授权为每台物理服务器 995 美元。
- “约 54 万 IOPS”主要指 4K 随机读取峰值；不同资料的读取和写入数字不一致，不能合并成一个统一规格。

哪些环境适合，哪些环境应谨慎
较适合
- 工作集集中、随机读取占比较高的数据库和分析服务器；
- 有空闲 PCIe 3.0 x8 插槽并能满足散热、BIOS 和驱动要求的专用服务器；
- 希望保留现有 SAN/DAS，同时减少热点数据后端访问的环境。
应谨慎或不适合
- 以归档为主、优先需要数 TB 以上容量的系统；
- 持续写入、日志或交易负载，尤其在未核实 2 DWPD、写放大和断电保护时；
- 依赖发布时不支持的 VMware ServerCache 集成，或需要跨服务器共享缓存的架构；
- 要求现代 NVMe、PCIe 4.0/5.0、SPDK、云原生存储栈及长期厂商支持的生产环境。
2026 年回看：历史意义大于采购价值
这次发布展示了 HGST 从单纯销售闪存硬件转向“PCIe 闪存加服务器端软件”的思路：用本地低延迟介质加速现有存储，而不是要求企业一次性购买全闪存阵列。现有资料没有证明 FlashMAX III 或 ServerCache 4.0 在 2026 年仍有官方销售、维护、下载或新订阅入口。因此，995 美元授权、30 天试用、2014 年第三季度供货预期以及旧版兼容性，都只能作为历史信息。二手卡还可能受到固件、驱动、寿命、保修和 PCIe 平台问题影响，不应默认用于现代生产系统。

ServerCache 4.0 必须搭配 HGST SSD 吗？
不必须。发布报道称软件具备驱动器无关性，但具体 SSD、固件和耐久度仍需自行验证。
