For a prerecorded video broadcast on YouTube, Restream is the better-documented option of these two: its paid looping feature supports up to 10 loops and a maximum 40-hour stream, which covers a single 24-hour session. That is not an unlimited, unattended 24/7 service. Dacast documents live encoder ingest and simulcasting to YouTube, but the materials reviewed do not establish that it can loop prerecorded video continuously to YouTube.

How Restream and Dacast differ for this use
Restream: documented looping, with a session cap
Restream’s video-looping documentation describes a paid feature for prerecorded video. It allows up to 10 loops and caps a stream at 40 hours; Restream even gives streaming for 24 hours as an example. A 24-hour broadcast therefore falls within the documented maximum, but the cap means this is not proof of an indefinitely repeating channel or an automatic restart after the session ends.
Dacast: documented live ingest and simulcasting
Dacast’s materials describe receiving a live feed from an encoder over RTMP/RTMPS and simulcasting an existing live channel to YouTube and other destinations. They also cover recording live broadcasts into a video-on-demand library. Which one to choose
- Choose Restream if you specifically need a documented prerecorded loop for a finite event up to 40 hours and its paid feature suits your plan.
- Consider Dacast if your source is a live encoder feed and you need hosted video delivery or distribution to YouTube and other destinations. Confirm directly with Dacast whether your exact prerecorded, unattended looping workflow is supported before buying.
- If the requirement is a continuous prerecorded YouTube channel rather than a scheduled long event, prioritize explicit evidence of looping, duration limits, unattended operation, and recovery behavior.
What YouTube requires before you start
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days. YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started guide says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable and test streaming well before launch. For an encoder-based workflow, enter YouTube’s stream URL and stream key in the encoder or service that sends the feed.

Protect the stream key as you would a password: anyone who has it may be able to broadcast to your channel. Use the key for the intended event, avoid publishing it in screenshots or public instructions, and reset it in YouTube if it is exposed. Check YouTube’s current live-control interface before launch, since labels and setup flow can change.
Plan for archives and viewer rewind
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For a continuous broadcast longer than 12 hours, do not assume YouTube will create a complete replay. Arrange a separate recording if you need an archive, and confirm current platform behavior before relying on it. YouTube’s live-stream DVR guidance also warns that pause and rewind may be limited or unavailable for very long streams, including streams over 12 hours.

Test the full workflow before going live
Whether you use a cloud loop or an encoder feed, run a test in advance. YouTube’s encoder help recommends checking the preview and stream health, monitoring audio and video, and verifying that the event is reachable. For a long event, test the entire path you will use on launch day, including the selected video, audio, destination, and any scheduled start or loop controls.
Costs and plan details
Restream describes prerecorded looping as a paid feature and notes that features vary by plan. Dacast has plan-based pricing. The available materials do not establish comparable current prices or identify the exact plan costs for a continuous prerecorded YouTube loop, so there is no reliable price winner here. Confirm the required feature, duration cap, and plan terms with each provider before subscribing.

Common problems and what to check
- You cannot start a YouTube live stream: confirm the channel is verified, has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and that first-time activation has completed.
- The encoder or streaming service will not connect: check that you entered the correct YouTube stream URL and stream key, and that the key belongs to the intended channel and event.
- The prerecorded broadcast stops before a full day: check the provider’s loop count and session-duration cap. Restream documents a maximum of 10 loops and 40 hours; do not treat that as unlimited runtime.
- Viewers cannot rewind, or no full replay appears: YouTube may limit DVR rewind on very long streams, and its automatic archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours. Keep a separate recording if a complete archive matters.
- The stream is live but viewers cannot watch reliably: use YouTube’s preview and stream-health checks, monitor audio and video, and verify the event is reachable before relying on it.
