Overview

Superthread connects requests with tasks, documentation, projects and agents so teams can manage people-operations work in a shared workflow. Employees can submit requests through forms and follow their status, assignees, due dates, comments and attachments. Email is another intake option, and the product includes a request catalog, workflow automation and an HR knowledge base.

Its scope is service delivery around HR processes, not the employee-data or payroll system itself: an HRIS remains the employee data system of record, while payroll stays in a payroll platform. That boundary makes Superthread more relevant to teams managing handoffs and follow-up than to buyers seeking an all-in-one HR suite.

Key features

Requests and cross-team processes

Request tracking keeps ownership, timing and conversation attached to the work rather than scattered across messages. Onboarding and offboarding tasks can span HR, IT, Finance, managers and new starters, making the shared workflow useful when completion depends on several groups. Teams with simpler, single-department processes may not need that coordination layer.

Agents and sensitive work

AI agents can review requests, identify missing context, prepare onboarding updates and flag stalled work, but only within spaces they can access. Private spaces and granular access controls can restrict sensitive employee-relations, compensation, investigation and leadership work. Those controls are important for HR use, though they do not change the product’s role as a workflow tool rather than a system of record.

Integrations and security

Listed integrations include Slack, GitHub, Email, Office 365, Zapier, Google Calendar and YouTube, alongside a public API. Superthread says it is GDPR compliant, encrypts data at rest and does not save meeting audio or video. SOC 2 is coming soon, a consideration for organizations whose procurement requirements depend on that certification.

Pricing

Superthread has a free plan and paid plans from $3 per user per month. The free tier costs 0.00 USD per month, billed at $0 / user / month, and includes 200 cards, 4 boards, 2 spaces and 7-day page version history. It is suitable for a small-scale start, but it excludes the shared service desk portal and caps both work volume and workspace structure.

Pay what you want is 3.00 USD per month, billed as Your price / user / month and starts at $3 per user per month. It has no long commitments and includes 30-day page version history, but still excludes the portal. Help centre and community support are included on both lower plans, so this tier extends history without unlocking the central employee-facing service desk.

Business (50+ seats) starts at 6000.00 USD per year, billed from $6000 / year. It requires 50 or more seats, uses annual billing, and adds the service desk portal, 90-day version history and in-app live chat. This is the first suitable tier for teams that need employees to use the shared portal; its minimum seat count and annual term are meaningful commitments.

Enterprise (200+ seats) starts at 85000.00 USD per year, billed from $85,000 / year. For organizations with at least 200 seats, it adds SAML & SCIM, custom billing, bring your own cloud and priority support. It fits larger organizations with those requirements, but is a substantial step up from Business. Free and Pay what you want are not substitutes for the portal-enabled plans.

Platforms

Superthread lists Android, iOS, macOS, Windows and web platforms, plus an API. That range supports use across common desktop and mobile environments, while the API gives teams an integration route beyond the named connections.

Who it's for

People operations teams that coordinate recurring employee requests with HR, IT, Finance and managers are the clearest fit, particularly when they need structured intake, assignments and follow-up across departments. Business or Enterprise is the relevant choice when the employee-facing service desk portal is required. Smaller teams can start on a lower tier, but should weigh its portal exclusion against the reason they are buying HR service delivery software.

Organizations that need employee records or payroll processing in the same product should choose an HRIS or payroll platform instead. Superthread explicitly leaves those functions to separate systems.

Pros and cons

Pros: Requests can carry assignees, due dates, comments and attachments, which gives cross-team HR work a clear path from intake to follow-up.
Pros: Private spaces and granular access controls let teams restrict sensitive HR work, while agents are limited to spaces they can access.
Pros: A free tier and a $3-per-user-per-month starting point provide a lower-commitment way to organize work before moving to portal-enabled plans.
Cons: The shared service desk portal is unavailable on Free and Pay what you want, so the cheaper plans omit a core employee-facing intake route.
Cons: Business starts at 50 seats with annual billing, while Enterprise starts at 200 seats; those thresholds can be unsuitable for smaller teams needing the portal.
Cons: Superthread does not replace an HRIS or payroll system, so buyers seeking a consolidated employee-data and payroll platform need other software.

Alternatives

LBi HR HelpDesk is worth considering for organizations with up to 100 employees that need a free help desk plan; its free tier allows two administrative users and has no expiration date.

factoHR may suit a small organization seeking a web-based HR product with a free plan capped at 20 employees. Infor Workforce Management is another option to evaluate if its workforce-management offering is a better match.

Hornbill IT Asset Management may be relevant to buyers considering an IT asset management product. Sunrise HRCM is an alternative to assess for HR case management.

Applaud HR Case Management is aimed at larger deployments, with a subscription starting at 500 users and custom pricing. Ivanti Neurons for Enterprise Service Management is worth considering when a broader enterprise service-management scope is relevant, including ITSM, HR, facilities, GRC, PPM and security operations. Neocase HR Case Management uses modular pricing based on employee users and usage for certain features.

Verdict

Choose Superthread when HR service work needs to move across departments with clear ownership, follow-up and controls for sensitive spaces. Its main advantage is bringing requests and coordinated work together; its main limitation is that the portal requires a Business or Enterprise commitment, and it cannot stand in for HRIS or payroll software.
