Overview

Salonist is cloud-based management software for appointment-led service businesses, from salons and spas to pet groomers and tattoo artists. It is best suited to owners who want bookings, sales, inventory and staff operations in one system; the free plan’s 50-appointment monthly limit makes it a narrow fit for busier businesses.

It runs on web, iOS and Android without installation. Clients can book 24/7 through a business website, Instagram or the Salonist app, including recurring and package appointments. Automatic reminders, cancellation controls, staff calendars, appointment payments and external calendar sync support the booking workflow.

Key features

Bookings, staff and client records

Online self-booking lets clients schedule outside business hours, while customer history can help staff serve returning clients. Owners can assign different staff access levels, a useful control for businesses that need to limit who can view profiles and other information.

Point of sale, payments and inventory

The integrated POS supports card, contactless and Stripe terminal payments, as well as bulk checkout, payment reports and stock updates. This connection suits businesses selling products alongside services, because sales activity and stock are handled within the broader management system. Online payment processing is also supported.

Integrations, support and migration

Salonist lists more than 40 integrations, including Stripe, PayPal, Razorpay, Clover, QuickBooks, Qoyod, Tabby, Tamara and Authorize.Net. Free onboarding and data import cover clients, services, staff, products and appointment history from systems such as Zenoti, Fresha, Vagaro, Mindbody or spreadsheets, reducing the burden of switching.

Support includes in-app chat and email, with on-demand phone support on Essential and above; support is offered in English, Arabic, French and other languages. Salonist states 99.95% availability and 24X7 coverage for critical app failures or queries. HTTPS browsing secures sessions when customers use the app.

Pricing

Salonist has a free plan and a 7-day trial. The Market Place Listing plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes online booking, calendar and scheduling, staff shift management and up to 50 appointments per month. That cap makes it suitable for a small operation testing the workflow, not a dependable long-term tier for a busy appointment book.

Essential costs 59.00 USD per month, billed monthly. It adds unlimited staff, POS, sales and appointment reports, customer history, coupons, inventory and reminders. It is the practical starting point for businesses that have outgrown the appointment cap and need sales and stock tools.

Advance costs 109.00 USD per month, billed monthly, and includes everything in Essential plus surveys, rewards, gift cards, campaigns, inventory management and third-party SMS API integrations. It fits businesses that will use those retention and messaging tools; otherwise, Essential covers the core operating needs at a lower price.

Expert costs 179.00 USD per month, billed monthly. It adds multi-branch reporting, a dedicated account manager, waitlists, custom integrations and API access, as well as the custom-branded client app published under the salon’s name in both major app stores. This tier makes most sense for multi-location businesses or brands that need those advanced options; smaller single-site operators may not need to pay for them.

Salonist charges a 15% one-time fee on the first visit from a brand-new client discovered through its marketplace. Returning-client and direct bookings do not incur that commission, so marketplace acquisition carries a cost that direct booking does not.

Platforms

Salonist is available on web, iOS and Android. Its cloud-based setup needs no installation, allowing owners and clients to use the service across web and mobile.

Who it's for

The product covers hair salons, massage centers, makeup artists, spas, barbershops, bridal salons, tattoo artists, pet groomers, nail salons, aesthetic skin clinics and salon booth renters. Its range of bookings, POS, inventory and membership functions makes it relevant to businesses combining appointments with product sales or client retention programs. The 50-appointment free tier and marketplace commission are important trade-offs for smaller operators weighing cost against new-client reach.

Pros and cons

Pros: Online booking through websites, Instagram and the Salonist app gives clients several ways to schedule, including recurring and package appointments.
Pros: POS, payment reporting and stock updates connect service sales and inventory rather than leaving those workflows separate.
Pros: Free migration of client, service, staff, product and appointment-history data can ease a move from another system or spreadsheets.
Cons: The free plan stops at 50 appointments a month, which can quickly rule it out as a lasting option for a busy business.
Cons: The 15% first-visit marketplace fee makes acquired bookings more expensive than direct or returning-client appointments.
Cons: The branded client app is reserved for Expert at 179.00 USD per month, putting a salon-branded app beyond the lower-priced tiers.

Verdict

Salonist is a strong fit for appointment-led salons and personal-care businesses that want booking, POS, inventory and staff management under one roof, with room to add marketing and multi-branch tools as needs grow. Choose it for that broad operational mix and the free migration support; look elsewhere if the 50-appointment free cap is too restrictive, marketplace acquisition fees are unattractive, or a branded app is essential below the Expert tier.
