Overview

Qualtrics is a survey and experience-management platform for individuals, research teams, and organizations running complex programs. Its strongest case is the combination of branching surveys, broad analysis tools, and plans that scale from a small account to enterprise response volumes. The free account is useful for bounded projects, but its response and active-survey caps make it a poor fit for sustained research.

Key features

Survey logic is a notable strength: even the free account supports skip, display, and branch logic, so researchers can tailor question paths without moving to a paid tier. That account allows 30 questions per survey, but only eight question types, three active surveys, and 500 total responses. It is a sensible starting point for an individual project, not a durable home for high-volume or varied research.

Paid Strategic Research plans raise the question-type range to 23, including audio and video responses. More than 20 guided research solutions offer structured workflows, while surveys support more than 70 languages. Dashboards support 24 languages, a narrower reach that may matter to teams whose reporting audience is as multilingual as their respondents.

Qualtrics pairs response analytics with advanced analysis such as crosstabs, statistical tools, and generative-AI video summaries. CSV, TSV, Excel, SPSS, and other export formats give research teams options for taking data into other workflows. The platform also offers a respondent panel, custom branding, simulation, prediction, and trusted-outcome actions, making it more than a form builder for organizations with broader research needs.

Pricing

Qualtrics Surveys Free costs 0.00 USD per free and is aimed at individuals. It includes one user, three active surveys, 30 questions per survey, 500 total responses, and eight question types. The no-credit-card account is a useful way to run a modest study, but the 500-response ceiling and single-user access quickly constrain collaborative or recurring work.

Strategic Research costs 420.00 USD per month, billed $5,040 USD billed annually, for 1,000 responses shared across all users. It is positioned for small teams, individuals, and academics. Unlimited users, surveys, and questions per survey make it a substantial step up in working capacity; however, the shared response pool means teams must budget responses across everyone using the account.

Strategic Research Custom has custom pricing based on interactions and is intended for enterprise organizations needing higher volumes. It includes 5,000 or more responses, 23 question types, and unlimited users, surveys, and questions per survey. That capacity suits larger programs, but organizations should weigh interaction-based pricing against their expected volume.

A 30-day Strategic Research trial provides access to most premium features, with some restrictions. Unless upgraded, it automatically downgrades to the free account after 30 days, so teams should plan around the trial end rather than assume paid access continues.

Platforms

Qualtrics lists API support, including a survey API. That is relevant for organizations connecting survey work to other systems; the platform information here does not establish broader app availability.

Who it's for

Qualtrics is best suited to researchers and organizations that need conditional surveys, substantial analysis, multilingual distribution, or higher response capacity. The maker says enterprises, governments, and healthcare organizations use it for sensitive programs, and its enterprise plan is designed for larger response volumes. Individuals with a single modest study can start free; teams needing shared work and more question types have a clearer reason to pay. It is less compelling when the project fits comfortably within the free caps and does not need the paid research toolkit.

Pros and cons

Pro: Branch, skip, and display logic are included free, enabling tailored surveys before a paid commitment.
Pro: Paid plans combine 23 question types, guided research solutions, advanced analysis, and exports in common formats.
Pro: Strategic Research supports unlimited users, surveys, and questions per survey, with enterprise capacity at 5,000 or more responses.
Con: The free account is limited to one user, three active surveys, eight question types, and 500 total responses.
Con: Strategic Research's 1,000 responses are shared across all users, and its stated price is tied to annual billing.
Con: Dashboard language support covers 24 languages, considerably fewer than the more than 70 supported for surveys.

Alternatives

Choose UXPressia when the priority is customer journey maps, personas, and impact maps rather than Qualtrics' survey and response-analysis scope. Its free plan includes three of each map type, email sharing with one user, and PNG export.

QuestionPro is worth comparing when a free survey account with 200 responses per survey and 30 question types better suits the project than Qualtrics' 500 total-response cap and eight free question types; its Advanced plan is $99.00 USD per month, billed annually.

Consider Webex Experience Management, Happ, omniXM, CrossCX, or Feedier as other paid alternatives.

Alida may suit organizations that prefer fixed subscription-based pricing with no per-participant fees stated; its platform subscription includes unlimited surveys, usability tests, and research activities.

For a narrower shortlist, explore Customer Experience Management Software, Candidate Experience Software, Course Evaluation Software, Customer Experience Analytics Software, Employee Experience Management Software, and Voice of Customer Software.

Verdict

Choose Qualtrics if your work needs flexible survey logic, research-grade analysis, or a path from individual projects to enterprise-scale response volumes. Its main advantage is the breadth of the research toolkit, while its main drawback is that useful capacity beyond a small free project starts with an annual-billed plan and a shared response allowance. For a small, occasional survey, the free account may be enough; for simpler needs, look elsewhere before committing to the paid tier.
